Enjoyable, funny show Review by: johnsonf, Jan 2, 2011 |
| I saw this Thursday night because I heard people talking about how good it was and my son and I saw Stokes Mitchell in Man of La Mancha. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a fun farce with catchy tunes and lots of laughs. The ditzy model was hilarious! I enjoyed it very much and so did the rest of the audience. They gave them a standing ovation! To top the evening off I stood in line next to ... read more Arthur Laurents...great evening! I don't think it deserved the trashing it received. It's a light, fun show. |

A Waste of Wonderful Talent - skip it Review by: stillred, Dec 18, 2010 |
| When I learned that this fabulous cast was opening in a new musical, I quickly bought FULL PRICE tickets. We saw the show towards the end of its previews, and I can only say, What a waste of talent!!! I think this was one of the worst shows I've seen lately (and I've seen a lot). I subsequently watched the movie upon which the show is based, and I must say the show sticks very close to the movie; but it just doesn't entertain, it's not funny, ... read more the music is not memorable, and the actors are spinning their wheels. UGH. |

Overall OK Review by: barbene, Dec 16, 2010 |
This is a difficult show to review. Parts of it work fantastically, other parts not so well. The ending of the first act was particularly good. It has a stellar cast, but with so many characters, no-one can really shine. Music was fine for me, although not particularly memorable. I think the story ultimately works better on film, and even a film musical version would likely be quite good.

LOOKS LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION Review by: BobK, Dec 13, 2010 |
| Probably the most amateur tacky Broadway production I have seen in all the years I have been coming to the theater. The cast is totally wasted on this production and knowing some of them I sat and wondered why they would even agree to perform.I did not stay for curtain calls as all I wanted to do is run away. |

For $126.50 you too can be used as a Guinea Pig Review by: Bill , Dec 10, 2010 |
I LOVED the movie Women on the Verge and when I heard they were going to make, and yet, ANOTHER movie into a Broadway show I thoght, "How are they going to do the car chase scenes and the taxi scenes?" which were pretty funny in the movie. When I heard the casting I knew I had to see it so I rushed to get the best seats I could. Great cast that tried so hard and KUDOS to you but boy I learned my lesson about buying tickets before a show ... read more opens. Is this show still in a workshop stage and we are the guinea pigs that paid to see it so the "creative team" (and I use the term creative loosely) can see what works and what doesn't? That's what I felt like at this MESS of a show. People wandering around the stage like rats in a cage. Poor Patti LuPone...what a thankless part. One, pretty bad, song and she hid under these enormous hats and looked like cousin it from The Aadams Family. Let's start with the score or lack there of. I can't remember a tune. That "opening number," Madrid never should have opened the show. It was boring and I knew right there we were in trouble. The audience, which was pretty much the center front mezz and scattered seating in the orchestra and no one in the balcony, didn't know if it was over when Danny B. finished singing. I felt we were at a workshop..to see what works and what didn't. PLEASE!!! Someone write an original musical with a new story that's not based on a movie and score that at least one song gets stuck in your mind and you sing it until you can't sing that song anymore. The only think positive I can say about this musical is it's a good thing it's only here until January. |

It's a mess Review by: Es, Dec 9, 2010 |
| Brian Stokes Mitchell and Patti Lupone were totally wasted in this show. It is a disjointed mess with a program of atonal songs with contrived lyrics. The few comic moments in the second act do not redeem this debacle. |

Different is a GOOD thing! Review by: Liz, Dec 4, 2010 |
| You got to expect something a little different when you go to this show... it is fun, cheeky, fast moving. I see a lot of theater and I appreciated this show for the great music and the riskiness of being different. It you are looking for the Broadway experience, you may not like this. But if you like things that are a little off-the-beaten-path then this is a WINNER. |

Great Adaptation of the movie. Review by: StarvinOG@aol.com, Nov 29, 2010 |
| Excellent adaptation from the movie. The attention to detail was amazing. Sherie Rene Scott is marvelous (as usual). Patti Lupone is Patti Lupone, always a joy to watch and very funny. Laura Benanti steals the show with her characterization of Candela. Surprised at the throw-away roles played by both Stokes and Marybeth Piel. However, If you are a fan of the movie you will truly enjoy the staged production. Loved the set! |

Review by: jb, Nov 27, 2010 |
I try to go to a few shows a year and was excited to see Brian Stokes Mitchell and Patty Lupone together. The show was very disappointing. The three people I went with all agreed. At the end of the performance, no one in the theater rose for an ovation. That never happens! Brian Stokes Mitchell singing 'blah blah blah' into to the microphone was not only a waste of his amazing talent but truly horrifying. All of the songs were truly ... read more forgetable. No one should go see this show. |

Delightful Women Review by: PAEM, Nov 26, 2010 |
| A delightful evening with stellar performances and a brilliant visual production. Score's a little weak, but the show manages to cleverly replicate Almadovar's funny film. Laura Benanti is a shoe-in for a Tony nomination next spring. She is absolutely wonderful! |

Don't Go! Save Your Money (even when it is discounted). Review by: gapajara, Nov 23, 2010 |
| While we love all of the show's great actors, this was absolutely the worst show we have seen. We left at intermission, and at full-price tickets, the show MUST have been pretty bad. We see just about every musical and by comparison this one was awful. The voices were excellent but the songs, forgettable as soon as they were sung. The story as well as the scenery was so disjointed. I, not only wouldn't recommend this show, I would be vocal ... read more about not seeing it at all. What a disappointment!!!! |

If you're smart and fun ... Review by: nycosmo, Nov 20, 2010 |
| This show was very enjoyable! It deserves much better buzz. Loaded with Bdwy pro's, fun ... and the visually lush, kinetic/cinematic effects (tho lost on Ben Brantley, New York times) were all in-sync for me. Usually I'm a fan of simple staging genius(like the clever 39 Steps), but this production really worked for me. See it if you're a sucker for surreal pop camp -- Oh, and ? LuPone, Scott, Benanti |

A VERY ENJOYABLE, FUN SHOW Review by: mini, Nov 8, 2010 |
| Not sure why this show is getting poor public reviews (unless there were a lot of uptight previewers) but I found the show to be very entertaining, funny and enjoyable! The cast is phenomenal (all with perfect voice) especially Laura Benanti who I think steals the show. The fast pace of boths the sets (really well done) and characters keeps the show moving brillantly. Maybe a few odd momements but overall a job well done! Bravo! |

What a mess, left during intermission and waste of talent Review by: Mess of a show, Nov 7, 2010 |
We see pretty much everything on Bway and couldn't wait for this show as I loved the movie and we love the cast...what a waste of talent and theater. So bad, we left during intermission as a nice dinner out sounded better than an unbearable show. We love Patti, Sherry Rene, Brian and Danny etc but they were boring, stupid and terrible. Laura Benati was the only salvation but didn't capture us enough to want to stick around for act 2. Barlett ... read more Sher, what happened to your direction??? South Pacific was marvelous and so creative. This show as disjointed, made little sense and poorly executed. The songs are forgettable and stupid...Brian singing about a microphone? Please, again what a waste of his incredible voice. I'm glad I paid for the cheap seats in the balcony as I would have been upset for leaving had I spent more than the $50 for these seats. Glad this is only a limited run so these talented actors can go on to a better venue. |
