| I love the thetre (not a newbie or tourist). I say that because I am still tingling a day later from Cynthia Nixon's brilliant portayal of a dying professor, unableto use her massive intellect to save herself from human frailties. This was an excellent, funny, sad, thought provoking play made extraordinary by one of the great acting performancesI have ever witnessed. Who would have that that Miranda from Sex in the City could take my breath away.... read more. Bravo!!! |

A Case Study in Depression Review by: BrooklynBoy, Feb 2, 2012 |
I agree 200% with goldenboy's review, and I too was given a free ticket. Despite good acting and decent writing, this show is about as enjoyable as a trip to your local cancer ward. When I go out for an evening in the theatre, I do not want to be depressed for a week afterwards, especially if I'm paying upwards of $100 a ticket (thank goodness that didn't occur in this case). To me, there is a big difference between a show like "Death of a ... read more Salesman" that is serious yet makes you think, and a show like "Wit" that is serious but makes you want to slit your wrists. I cannot imagine this show finding a wide audience on Broadway, despite its successful run off-Broadway in its original production. The last show Cynthia Nixon starred in was "Rabbit Hole", about a couple mourning the death of their child. This time she is starring in a play about a woman dying of cancer. Girl--next time, you need to pick a musical or a Neil Simon show. Please. |

| This is a good play with solid performances. Cynthia Nixon gives a great performance. It would be depressing but enough humor and intrigue is added to inhibit this. |

| Cynthia Nixon is BRILLIANT! I didn't expect to like her charecter (having heard a synopsis of the play) but although she plays a snooty academic (not my favorite type of people) it's written with grace and humor and Cynthia goes 1 hour 40 minutes almost nonstop BRILLIANTLY! She's one of those people who were born to be on the stage... and I run when those people are working because it is pure pleasure. Laughs throughout and heart breaking ... read more in the end. A great, great night at the theater! |

| I saw Wit on Broadway with my wife this past Saturday. The acting is great, but the play itself is a downer, man. It presents a totally nihilistic perspective of life and death. Seriously, it's a real buzz kill, man. |

Powerful Review by: iluvny2451, Jan 12, 2012 |
| Not the play to see if you want something light hearted. It is intense, the writing and the acting are outstanding. I have always enjoyed Cynthia Nixon's acting but after seeing her in this, all I can say is WOW |
