This is the response I rec'd from Cirque's customer service Review by: DanielleThi, Nov 27, 2007 |
We want to start by thanking you for taking the time to share your comments with us. Your feedback is much appreciated.
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience at Wintuk. By the very nature of the shows, Cirque du Soleil performances are designed to appeal to the audience on an emotional, visual and sensory level. As a company that prides itself on always pushing the boundaries of creativity, we must run the ... read more risk of not always pleasing everyone. For Wintuk, Cirque du Soleil wanted to present a family-oriented performance and in that sense, we created the show with a family perspective. For the first time, we actually created a tale accessible for children and with references children understand.
Furthermore, when presenting a show in an existing theater, we have to adapt the acts to the constrait of the venue. Since Wintuk is not presented under our Big Top, the challenge for the creators was to deal with the specifications of this particular stage. It is practically impossible to present high acts, for example - which is usually part of Cirque du Soleil experience - because of the WaMu low ceiling.
We thank you for your constructive remarks and sincerely hope that the next show will better meet your expectations.
With sincere regards, |

TERRIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT: Go at your own risk. Review by: , Nov 26, 2007 |
It was the most disappointing show I have seen in years. DO NOT GO. It is not the Cirque du Soleil we all know and have come to love. It is more akin to Sesame Street musical with some interesting circus acts thrown in (think singing lamp posts and big, fluffy dog puppets that talk and sing).
Rather than the great costumes, unique and original music and astonishing artists on stage it was a little boy in a red jacket running around ... read more telling everybody that he wanted it to snow. The lamp posts sang an overly child-like song about snow and if there was dancing it was amateurish and simple. THEN the dogs came out and I laughed out loud (people in front of us groaned in disappointment). They were these giant, white, shaggy dog-puppets that ran around the stage for the rest of the show singing and talking It was very child-like -- the lyrics were simple (example: the boy would ask, "Where is the snow?" and the lamp posts would answer, "He asks where is the snow? He wants to see snow. Something is missing...let's go find snow". Seriously.
There were only 5-6 'circus acts' set in isolation from the story about a little boy looking for snow. A few of them were astounding but if you have seen other Cirque du Soleil shows you will be disappointed. The end was fun when they released paper "snow" over the entire audience.
But is it worth paying a premium price for what used to be a sophisticated, truly inspiring and artistic show? I think not.
If you want to take your children to see a cute show with overpriced tickets, then it will be great. But about 1/4 of the audience left before the show ended... so you are warned. |

WINTUK: is a theater tale for kids. Not a production like the Vegas shows! Review by: rodoel, Nov 25, 2007 |
Well...
Im a big fan of CIRQUE DU SOLEIL and I love this show. It´s not like CIRQUE DU SOLEIL other shows, and this is just theater. Special effects are INCREDIBLE. ANd this is a tale for kids, not for adults. |

AWFUL for families Review by: georgiagirl, Nov 25, 2007 |
| I spent almost $1,000 to take my family to see this show. Unfortunately, the most interesting part to my children was the paper snowflakes at the end! We all love Cirque shows & this was not even remotely like any we've ever seen! It was boring, cheesy & then SCARY to both of my kids! If you are looking for an interesting family-oriented show in NYC, skip this horrible thing & check out Christmas Spectacular instead. |

Lame. Waste of money. We feel robbed! Review by: Alex, Nov 21, 2007 |
| Went with our friends (2 kids 4 adults) and were severely disappointed. Acting id very poor, music is pretty annoying. Jugglers kept dropping stuff, acrobats making mistakes left and right. I felt like I am in a low budget circus which managed to get good decorations. Avoid. |

Way better than expected Review by: Bubba, Nov 20, 2007 |
| Expecting to be bored, I saw Wintuk Friday, Nov. 16, and we four adults found it brilliantly mesmerizing. Best finale ever. Don't take the words of the snobs on this forum. |

Disappointment Review by: Gynger, Nov 19, 2007 |
Very disappointing, should have been advertized as a childrens show. Thout I was watching Sesame Street. Definately not a Cirque Du Soleil. Convinced friends who had never seen Cirque shows to go & I was embarassed that they wasted their time & money. I would Not recommed this show to anyone. Very poor. |

Disappointment Review by: Gyngersnap, Nov 19, 2007 |
| This was a most disappointing "Cirque Du Soleil" I convinced my friends who had never seen a Cirque show to go with me for Wintuk & was very embrassed to have wasted their time & money. It should have been billed a childrens show altho the children around us were bored also. So sad b/c all the other Cirque shows I have seen in the past were excellent. |

Extremely Disappointed Review by: Theatregoer, Nov 18, 2007 |
| I agree with all the reviewers. I only saw Corteo last year which was mesmerizing. Wintuk was a poor excuse for entertainment. All of the people sitting around us were also disappointed, as they brought a bus load of guests from Pennsulvania! I am going to ask for my money back. |

Waste of Money and Time Review by: Clarice, Nov 18, 2007 |
Don't waste your money or time. We were ready to leave after the first 10 minutes. We DID leave at intermission. The music score was boring and a prerecorded. The story was lame. The juggler dropped his indian clubs. The acts were very poor. We have seen many Cirque Du Soleil shows, and this was extremely disappointing. They say it is geared more for kids, but even they were bored. Parents are also extremely rude ... read more by not keeping their bored kids quiet and letting them run up and down the aisles. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this show.

Not very good Review by: bjones, Nov 15, 2007 |
| Saw the show last night; agree with others that this is not up to the usual Cirque Du Soleil standards. The audience was barely awake at intermission. A few talented acts, but overall a disconnected and boring show. Save your money. |

Review by: sarah, Nov 15, 2007 |
| I was sooooo excited to see this show and could not be anymore disapointed than i am. It was just awful, and extremely embarrassing for cirque. I saw O this summer and was blown away! This was boring, silly, and lacked creativity. I guess it was for children, but the night I saw there was only a hand full of children. I want my money back to be quite honest. It seems to me they took the New York audience for a ride and just want our money. ... read more More than half the show is dumb puppetry and unchoreographed, uninspired staging. I'm hurt and sad, I fell in love with Cirque De Soleil and they really ruined my excitement for it. |
