Only teenage girls will like this Review by: Julie, Aug 25, 2011 |
I honestly don't get all the hype. Wicked is no match for The Wizard of Oz at all. It can't hold a candle to it. The characters are so OOC it's unbelieveable. This is NOT what I expected, from a die hard Wizard of Oz fan. I used to have a huge collection of Wizard of Oz things, considering it being one of my all time favourite films, for the whole family to enjoy. This is just melodramatic teenage drama. Adults and Wizard of Oz fans ... read more will hate this musical. |

| We actually left during intermission cause we were incredibly bored!! I wish I had never spent the money on these tickets... The actors voices were marvelous, but I could barely understand anything they were saying, and the story (i think was supposed to be funnY?) was just corny and annoying. Two thumbs DOWN! |

Great Time Review by: Rjriento, Jul 28, 2011 |
I saw this back in 2009, having known the music, and being terribly excited because it was my first Broadway show. I wasn't disappointed, but in retrospect I don't remember it as much as I do for other shows that I have seen. I loved the sets, and I liked the costumes on the swings better than the lead actor's. The Elphaba (Dee Roscioli) didn't really hit it with me, but I loved Erin Mackey as Glinda, and the understudy for Fiyero's roll did ... read more well enough. The music is great, although certain songs made me look at the program to see when it would be over, and the first act is very plot-driven, kind of taking away from the magic of the show. Although they try to paint the Wizard as the villain, he really isn't, and I couldn't find a good enough reason to hate him. For viewers of the show, I think the story does have some great lessons to be learned, about being yourself and the values of friendship. It sort of fits into the Wizard of Oz movie, but not quite. It's a great show for the family, and I think it would be hard to have a bad time at the show. |

Wicked should have never been made!! Review by: Lavelle, Jul 28, 2011 |
Okay, I know I'm going to get LOADS of hate mail, telling me I'm stupid, I'm horrible and I'm a you-know-what but I wanted to express my statement about Wicked.I hated this show with a passion and I don't thinhk it should have ever been made. The Wizard of Oz is a classic and one of my all time-favourite films and they completely ruined it! No major spoilers are being given out but part of it takes place during The Wizard of Oz but most of ... read more it takes place before as it's called "The Prequel". There was only one pleasing song which was "Defying Gravity" but even so, the flying effect looked really cheesey and tacky. If you want to waste your money on this, go ahead, but I guarantee you will be really really disappointed. I thought this would be a decent telling of the Wicked Witch of the West but apprently not. They twisted her character round. I thought the book Wicked was alright. I didn't like it too much but at least it had a decent perspective of the witch and why she was so wicked. The musical doesn't explain anything and I was shocked to see how different from the book it was. Give the book a try, but avoid the musical if you don't want to waste $60!

| I too was very disappointed in the show. (We actually left during the intermission; people sitting in front of us had already walked out early!) With all the hype, I expected much more from it. A little more info in the program would have been helpful for those who have not read the book, or any of the reviews. We were in the first balcony (good seats), but could not understand the words in many of the songs. Enjoyed the stage, special ... read more effects, etc. but overall not up to any other productions we've seen. |

A Preformance That Defies Gravity. Review by: Jackie, Jun 26, 2011 |
| Makes a wonderful outing! I've seen it three times and cried all three! It's always new and the acting has never disappointed me. A great show for all ages, though teens and adults would get more out of it than small children. All in all, it is the best Broadway production I have ever seen. |

Best Musical absolutely Review by: christopher, Jun 13, 2011 |
Excellent show - well worth the time and money. If you read the book and liked it you'll love the musical. The leads are outstanding. The effects are amazing and perfectly done. The story is good - but it helps to be familiar with the novel. The songs are very good and exceptionally well choreographed and performed. There is a reason this show has been rated best of top ten for over 7 years running. |

Wickedly Wonderful!!! Review by: Donut, Jun 11, 2011 |
| My daughters and I have seen this show 3 times, and cannot wait to go for the fourth! It is without a doubt the best Broadway show I have ever seen, and I have seen many! The music is so powerful that, at intermission, I am always frozen in my seat, unable to even speak. We are avid Wizard of Oz fans, so that just adds to the magic of this show. Do yourself a favor, and go see this wonderful production. |

Mind Blowing Performance Review by: Petie, Jun 3, 2011 |
| I saw Wicked last night for the first time and LOVED IT. What everyone has said about this show is TRUE! It is one of the best shows on broadway. I sat in a slightly obstructed view seat but had a great view! Any seat in the house is great! It was mind blowing to see how they created the back story and conclusion to the Wizard of Oz. There are so many twists and turns. The cast is also great! I was upset at first that I did not see ... read more it with the original cast, but this cast was just as good! I highly recommend seeing the show. |

I definitely recommend Wicked! Review by: Jem, May 31, 2011 |
Altogether an amazing show, though it may not be to everybody's tastes. The musical's main themes and messages carry well through the songs and I found the acting and singing pretty good, though not the most exceptional on Broadway. The decors and costumes absolutely blew me away, I must admit. Perhaps the best I've ever seen on a stage, and they did a good job at conveying the otherworldly feel that the 1939 film already had. The plot ... read more itself tied very well into the original Wizard of Oz story. I recommend this show for the fans of comedy, drama, romance, and even action. All in all, I'm a fan! |

Review by: turandot, May 28, 2011 |
| What a waste of Time. I just saw the show tonight and was very disappointed. It is one long bore, quite a soap opera and often so melodramatic. And the story, well, what IS the story. Very complicated. I found it difficult listening to the two female leads going on and on with their solos and duets. And those typical broadway voices, yuck, sorry, when they sang quietly it could be quite beautiful but quite harsh when they sang loudly.Would ... read more have liked to hear more from the male leads. The show doesn't compare with Phantom,Les Mis,Mamma Mia,How to Succeed, Evita, Westside Story, etc. The score is not memorable in any way. The sets were colorful, the costumes were clever. Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a much better show. Don't waste your money on this one. |

Absolutely LOVE this show! Review by: Xtina, May 19, 2011 |
| I loved this show! I won the lottery (I tried twice before I won) and only paid about $27 for front row seats. It changed the way I see the Wizard of Oz forever and I love this version! I was tearing up with laughter! This was the BEST date I ever been on! Loved all the songs and loved both witches!!! I only wish I had popcorn! :) |

Not bad, but Waaaay Overhyped Review by: Dan, May 19, 2011 |
| A bit disappointed. I left the show trying to figure out if I liked it or not. Certainly not dazzling like Memphis or Sister Act, but not bad either. The two lead singers, good witch and bad witch were outstanding singers. The songs though were not memorable. The first half of developing the story of how the good witch and bad witch became friends, was waaaaay too long. Kids started squirming in their seats from sitting too ... read more long and the sugar from their candy kicking in. The second half was better as you can start connecting the dots of the classic we've all seen on TV. Overall, it was just good. I cant figure out those that have seen this 5 or 6 times. I think they should broaden their horizon and see other things. Other than cool monkeys, and some good effects, there are other shows I would recommend. |
