Wicked is wickedly awesome!!! A must see!!! Review by: Lily_in_NYC, May 1, 2012 |
| I have seen about 30 broadway shows and I have to say Wicked has become my favorite. There are twists and humor in the story that I did not expect. My husband bought me tickets 6 months in advance... it was worth the wait and every penny! I highly recommend it. The sets, costumes, singing... everything was beyond expectations! Anyone who enjoyed The Wizard of Oz is sure to love Wicked. A MUST SEE!! |

Just plain old AWESOME! Review by: Jaspurs, Mar 26, 2012 |
| An excellent presentation all around. The acting was great as well as the songs (though on some I could not catch all of the words). The costumes were dazzling and the interwoven love story was neat. The theater was packed and the applause was deafening. We actually went yesterday 3/25/12 and will probably see it again. I've spoken to people who have seen it several times and now I understand why. I know we all have an opinion, but ... read more honestly I can't understand some of the negative reviews I've seen. Perhaps they were looking for the story of the Wizard of Oz. This wasn't supposed to be the WOO, it is WICKED!! Bottom line- it was WICKEDLY GREAT!!! |

Why Guys don't like musicals Review by: Lone Wolf, Mar 12, 2012 |
| I understand why guys do not like musicals. The songs interrupt the flow of the story. Just get on with it! This was better than "CATS" (which I still do not understand) and not as good as "Les Miserables" or even "42 Street". There were really no standout songs that you wished to hear again and only a couple that will lend to being sung out of context like even the "Cats" musical had. I have listened to most of "Phantom of the Opera" and seen ... read more "West Side Story" but I just don't see how this one stands up to those shows, though it is extremely popular. The story is like a 'Tales from the Backside' where the perspective we know from the Frank Baum novel is thrown out and we see the prequel from the wicked witch's character. Lovers of the original story of "The Great and Powerful OZ" will find it discomforting. There were many little girls in the audience and all those of the fairer sex seem to love this show. This is a time where guys have to swallow hard, keep you mouth shut, stay awake, and do something unselfish for you significant other. Lest I be too critical, there were some humorous lines and good delivery on the part of the characters. The singing was OK and the leads adequate but I have heard as good at much less of the price. The chorus numbers were difficult to understand and I am not sure it was the sound system or the singers, but the words were unintelligible. The writing was at times awkward as were the lyrics to the songs and the singers had to either force the words to fit the music or speak the words mid song. Not exactly songs that would leave you humming the tune at the end. |

Completely moving Review by: , Mar 4, 2012 |
An incredible show, and my all-time favorite, this coming from a life-long theater loveer. The production was simply incredible, and the casting was amazing. I know that the weakest part is usually portrayed as the story, but i understood it perfectly and could follow it easily. the story is also very creative, considering it was made with bounds already having been set by the wizzard of oz. The music was heart-stopping, beautiful, and ... read more always had the right mood. I got so lost in thw show that when the lights came up afterwards i had to think about where i was. The most outstanding part of wicked is the emotion. The emotion is embodied so well in the music, and portrayed perfectly by the actors and actresses. It is a very emotion-provoking show, and with it being so well supported, it catches you off guard when you start to sympathize with elphaba, mourn with glinda, and brave through it all with both. All in all, wicked truly deserves a place in my heart as the best show i have ever seen. |

Snoozer Review by: showgirl, Mar 4, 2012 |
| What a snoozer. Actors were fine and had good voices, but story is absurd and was totally bored from start to finish. Dark, plodding, silly. Couldn't wait to leave. And I love musicals. |

Good, but overrated Review by: Parekai, Mar 3, 2012 |
The show was a good show, but I thought that it is more famous than it deserves to be. The acting was no better than any other show, the music was very stephen schwartz and none of his other shows are this famous. The high note and the end of defying gravity was not that high, and the show didn't touch my heart. The best show that I've ever seen was Next to Normal, which has higher notes, better music, touches your heart, more talented ... read more cast, and yet, it is not nearly as well known. |

Worst show I've seen Review by: AT, Feb 19, 2012 |
| I too HATED this show. I am a die hard Wizard of Oz fan and found the show to be boring and stupid. We paid $300 and left at intermission. I couldn't care less what happened to the characters, hated the music, and found it completely disappointing. Very underwhemling compared to the original. The humor was ridiculous. People were laughing out loud and I wasn't even chuckling inside but rolling my eyes and groaning instead. But that's just ... read more me. |

Sensational, Riveting, Funny and Romantic Review by: Yule, Dec 9, 2011 |
| Its my first Broadway show, and i think this is the kind of show you could never go wrong with. It was so wonderfully written, I like the character interaction, they were funny, witty and touching. Then there are the wonderful eye candies, the costumes and the stage was just well placed and made and doesn't steal the scene from the actors. Wicked is Outstanding!! |

Timeless, Touching, Awesome !!!!! Review by: merlin53, Nov 29, 2011 |
| Went to see Wicked for the 9th time with a friend on Wednesday 11/9/2011 matinee. This was her second B'way musical (Spiderman 2.0 being her first)and she was speechless when the show ended except for the word awesome over and over again. This show never disappoints despite the numerous times I've seen it. Both our Glinda and Elphaba were outstanding, but a special note of praise to the understudy Donna Vivino who channeled the best Elphaba I've ... read more seen so far giving Idina Menzel a run for her money vocally ( never did get to see the original cast but have listened to the original B'way soundtrack ad nauseum). It's amazes me, no matter how many times I've seen this show, I grin from ear to ear for two hours and forty five minutes, except for the few times I need to wipe away a tear or two ( Just listen to the words to "For Good" and try not to think of a good friend you have or unfortunately, may have lost in this lifetime and you'll understand exactly what I mean). Just an aside, as some of the negative reviews here amaze me, I'm not a teenage girl or related in anyway to anyone connected to the show. I'm a married man, 58 years old, who has come to appreciate the Broadaway musical as the ultimate representation of live entertainment and I think Wicked will be remembered as one the greatest muscals of all time. Please do yourself a favor and catch this show before it closes in the next ten years or so.... it could probably run forever as it should, so that future generations of theater goers can experience the wonder of Wicked. |

Amazing! Magical! Review by: Chubby Theater Goer, Nov 11, 2011 |
| I just saw this for a second time because first of all, its a musical that needs repeat visits for its sheer awesomeness. The characters, the songs, and most of all, the story is just terrific. Secondly, I sat at the front mezzanine for my first visit. While these may be great seats for any show, not the case for Wicked. The Gershwin theater is the biggest theater on Broadway and the mezzanine is just too far back to see the ... read more actresses' faces clearly. Lastly, I did not like the performance of Elphaba on my first visit. Glinda played by Katie Rose Clarke was just brilliantly spectacular and adds a different dimension to Chenoweth's Glinda. Now fast-forward to second visit. I fulfilled my first reason. But the second reason? Oh wow, this time I sat too close. Ideally, it would be best to watch anywhere on Orchestra from Row E - O. Anywhere pass row O, you will hate yourself because you can't see 'up' because of the mezzanine blocking and believe me, a lot of stuff is happening way up on the stage. Now, why wouldn't you want to sit before E? Wigs. Lots of actresses including the main ones, wear wigs and you can clearly see them. These are not the old wigs that end on the hairline but the distracting ones that end on the forehead. I don't remember the original cast doing this but maybe this is a new direction to speed up scene changes. Because of this, the women don't look as pretty up close as they do far away. Lastly, two completely new actresses this time but ironically, Jackie Burns who played Elphaba was amazing. Almost as good if not just as good as Menzel. But I didn't like the Glinda this time. I will probably watch it for a 3rd time for the above reasons but also because I have the unfortunate incident of sitting in front of a very rude person who not only talked during the performance but sang the songs, too! |
