Unbelievable !!!!! Review by: merlin53, Mar 14, 2013 |
| I will be seeing Wicked for the 10th time this comng Wednesday 3/20/13. Taking my sister in law and her sister who have never seen the show. One of my guilty pleasures is observing the reactions of the "rookies " unaware of the spectacle they are about to see. The looks of amazement, joy sadness, tears, and the smiles as we walk out of the theater, the whole gamut of emotions evoked by this incredible production is almost worth as much to me as ... read more the show itself. That said, I am still amazed as I come back to this site often to gauge the publics perception, that many people can have so many negative comments about Wicked. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but please get this straight right now, It's not The Wizard of OZ, and it's not a translation of the excellent book by Maguire, if you're expecting either of these two things, by all means don't expect to enjoy the show. However,in this day and age of so many tragic events and the state of awareness that has been thrust upon us and is sadly now a part of our daily lives, Wicked is such an avenue of escapism and enjoyment I find it hard to believe how many find so much wrong with this show. From the opening strains of the overture, to the final soaring refrain of "Wicked" I,like most here, am transported for two hours and forty five minutes to a place where I can forget about all of the nastiness in the world and revel in the warmth of the basic messages of this show. Friendship, loyalty, honesty, and most of all, letting those who you hold dear know how much they are loved. It's corny but Wicked did change my life a bit, for good (sic) and I encourage all of you with the brains heart, and courage( another sic ! ) to open your heart for a few hours, clear your mind of any precocnceptions, and enjoy one of the best that Broadway has to offer.....ever !!!!! |

The Most Popular Show on Broadway... Sells Out Every Performance for a Reason. Review by: 71945, Feb 8, 2013 |
| Saw Wicked for the second time last night. Don't lie - it's a great musical. Beautiful lights and sets, the most gorgeous, intricate costumes, powerful, chilling live orchestrations. Donna Vivino and Alli Mauzey were a wonderful pair and were simply perfect. Kyle Dean Massey and the rest of the cast are A+ as well. This musical is pretty much perfect for any age and any personality... get tickets. This is a really fun show. |

Best casting yet. Phenomenal production. Must see. Review by: TareX, Nov 24, 2012 |
| Thanks to brilliant casting (esp the white witch --not that anything was wrong with the wicket witch -she was phenomenal, it's just that sometimes they miscast the white witch and her humor seems forced. But no siree, this time it's spot on the best casting ever), this version of Wicked is -quite easily- the best ever made, and it was an already phenomenal production. I love what they did with the Wizard of Oz universe, and I loved how we got to ... read more see the origins of all the characters and things we saw in the movie (Dorothy's, that is) but never wondered how they came to be. The singing was flawless, the sets were incredible, and the music score was spectacular.... The most enjoyable Broadway show I've ever, ever seen. Worth every penny. |

Good, but not great. Review by: dtt, Nov 13, 2012 |
I genuinely enjoyed Wicked. Really, I did. I thought the production values were great (I especially liked the costumes), the score fit very well, the cast did a very good job, and the story did enough to move the audience (although the idea is a popular girl and an ugly-outside-but-beautiful-outside girl isn't exactly an original idea). However, I didn't exactly see why everyone loves this show with a capital L. Sure, I thought ... read more it was genuinely enjoyable and gripping, but the audience seemed to want to scream, laugh, and cheer at every little moment. When I saw it, in the part where Glinda sings the reprise of "I'm Not That Girl", a very tender moment where she is completely heartbroken, the audience (or mostly young girls, I might add) cheered so loudly when she began to sing that number that I lost my emotional high from the previous action onstage in disbelief and shock. Don't get me wrong, there were some moments that were so exciting that I too cheered loudly, such as Elphaba's spectacular rise during "Defying Gravity", but there were moments that I though were...rather undeserving of a cheer, such as Elphaba's first entrance. Speaking of "Defying Gravity", I thought it was such a powerful and meaningful number, as was "No Good Deed", "The Wizard and I", and the reprise of "I'm Not That Girl", but although I have said the score fit really well, I also thought a lot of the songs were rather forgettable, and in some cases, perhaps a bit...dare I say it...overrated (yes, "For Good", I'm looking at you). I suppose I'm rambling. And I seem to be bashing this show, aren't I. But really, I'm not. I love Wicked, I really do...it's on my list of favorites, and I would love to see it again. All I'm saying is that Wicked is wonderful, heartfelt show that you should definitely come see for a good night out, but don't let fans give you super high expectations...it may end up not meeting them. |

Quality of the show is based on actors Review by: Becky, Oct 11, 2012 |
I have seen this show four times, three on tour and once in NYC. The music is incredible (except for "I Am a Sentimental Man" which should just be banned from ever being played near a stage ever again. Ugh.) The staging and production is incredibly detailed and mesmerizing. As far as actors go, I've seen a wide range. My favorite was the cast of the national tour in 2009. I think a lot of the show depends on the actors and actresses and ... read more that's why you end up with people who love it and people who hate it. One of the shows I saw I absolutely hated the girl playing Glinda and it totally ruined the whole 2 hour show for me because I could not get over how awfully stiff and unnatural she was in the role. I would say that if you didn't like it the first time, try it again with a different cast. Some of the songs are make or break based on who is singing them ("Popular" in particular, "Defying Gravity" is another. You get a lackluster belter and it's all over).

High School Musical: Oz edition Review by: Gruntilda, Sep 22, 2012 |
I am a big fan of theater who went to see wicked tonight. I must say, the story was almost insultingly generic and the songs were very forgettable. It is very much overrated. The acting and the costumes were very good, but the poor script ruined it for me. The story would have been the same had it not been set in Oz. Glenda is the popular girl, the wicked witch is said to be ugly because of her skin color but is "beautiful on the inside"...... read more. come on now, this is a story that has already been told a million times in saturday morning cartoons. Give us something new and interesting. |

The most beautiful adaptation I've ever seen! Review by: Isla, Jul 30, 2012 |
| I went to see WICKED on 7/28/12 8pm with my 12 year-old daughter. It was her birthday and she has been asking me to see this show for a awhile. Wish granted! We had a good time and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I was in tears in the final first act DEFYING GRAVITY. Ms Donna Vivino has a spectacular voice as Elphaba and Chandra Lee Schwartz was wonderful as Galinda the good witch. No I'm a big fan of WICKED. |

Over-Hyped Review by: Mark, Jun 28, 2012 |
| I agree with the poster who said this show was forgettable. I can think of only a few other shows that have been so over-hyped. To me, this is a show for people that like production values (elaborate costumes and special effects), but don't care if anything is underneath. I didn't care about any of the characters, and the music was so forgettable that I forgot each song as soon as it ended. Shows like "Wicked", "Spider-Man" and "Ghost" belong ... read more in Vegas, but special effects do not make a good Broadway musical. |

Amazing, amazing show. Review by: Holly, Jun 27, 2012 |
We just came back from the Wednesday 8:00 performance, and I'm still exploding from so many emotions. The show was literally incredible. From the first dancing monkey to the very last scene where Fiyero puts the hat onto Elphaba, I was spell bound (pun not intended). First of all, the score is fantastic. If you're a Wicked fan, you know that already. It's a great blend of powerful belt, slow ballads, and those top soprano notes ... read more that you can barely comprehend. The harmony flows effortlessly into the counter-melodies, and the orchestra has the perfect balance with the actors' voices. And the lines are everything from hilarious to tear invoking. Some of the deliveries we saw tonight had me laughing out loud (thank Galinda for that). Others made me take a deep breath and remind myself that these weren't real situations...that last scene is a hard one to get through without shedding at least a few tears. Jackie Burns is an extremely talented vocalist. Her belts on Defying Gravity and No Good Deed were awe inspiring. She has a way of making her voice pierce your emotions, and the slower song, I'm Not That Girl, was incredible. While some of her first lines seemed a little awkward in their delivery, by Scene 3 they were great. Especially in Act 2, the way she presented the lines had their own, original flair, playing more to the sensitive emotions of the audience. Chandra Lee Schwartz also did an excellent job. Her top soprano notes came out perfectly from the very beginning, and her lines were greatly amusing. The Popular sequence was done in such a new way that it had my on the edge of my seat, even after having seen that song performed many a time. She was a hilarious, hilarious actress. All actors had great chemistry on stage, especially Fiyero and Elphaba. Elphaba and Galinda also had a very realistic friendship. I would definitely recommend this show to almost anyone. It's amazing. |
