See it now! Great Acting. Review by: Diract66, Jul 6, 2009 |
| Hurry up! See this before it closes. All the actors are great but John Glover steals the stage by saying nothing. He is exhaustingly funny and droolingly intense. And when he does speak, you can't shut him up even though he really says nothing again! Excellent acting by all. The waiting is by all of us in life. We are all waiting for something to come and while spending time waiting we lose life! Some might think this was a wasted two hours,... read more, but not for me. Absurdist theatre is not for everyone. It forces you to think. Not something we are used to in a lot of today's theatre. |

Don't Wait To Get Tickets for this Godot Review by: Grammy521, Jun 15, 2009 |
| Having seen 2 other productions of Godot, and disliking both, I went with no expectation--and was blown away. It was funny and touching, amazing ensemble acting, so good in fact that sometimes I didn't know which actor to watch. Each of them was so good. Nathan Lane hasn't been in such control in many years. He is a master. |

Waiting for Something to Happen Review by: BigKen, Jun 12, 2009 |
| I was so anxious to see Nathan Lane and John Goodman working together on the stage. But...boy was I disappointed in the storyline, the acting, and the show! It was much too slow and boring for me. Save your money and see something else! |

Don't waste time Review by: Disappointed, Jun 9, 2009 |

See-saws between pathos and parody -- sadly, I don't recommend Review by: Robin08, Jun 5, 2009 |
I was very disappointed with this show. The performances (save one, mentioned below) see-sawed between parody and pathos, and I never felt any depth in the characters. John Goodman played Pozzo like a beached whale in the second act, which got a lot of laughs but destroyed the impact of his announcement about the change in his and Lucky's conditions. Bits of the interaction between Bill Irwin and Nathan Lane were brilliant, but overall ... read more they were skimming the surface of the play the night I saw it, and I felt no real connection between the two. The one standout was John Glover, whose delivery of Lucky's monologue and physical acting were superb. He stole the show for me -- no mean feat when you're sharing the stage with Lane and Irwin. I wish the director had used the actors' exceptional talents more wisely, spending less time creating a little light comedy with some serious bits and producing instead a deeply affecting, profoundly moving statement about man's struggle in the wilderness that is life. |

Review by: David, May 2, 2009 |
Wow - what a show! I went on a Sunday and loved it so much that I bought a ticket and went back in the same week. The music is really fabulous. And the acting is great. What I loved most is that each member of the Tribe has a totally different personality that was fun to watch throughout the show. And, lot;s of "eye-candy!" The men and women in the show are very good looking. I'm going to go back in the next week or so. I ... read more really enjoyed this. Thanks. |

Review by: Janice, Apr 29, 2009 |
| We were expecting a great performance based on the cast, however the show really fell short. Nathan Lane did his best to make the story as humorous as possible, however the rest of the cast did nothing for the performance. Very disappointed. |

Go Go Go to See Godot!! Review by: , Apr 26, 2009 |
| Let me start by saying that Waiting For Godot was my favorite play in highschool so I may be a bit prejudiced but I thought the show was fantasitic!! The humorous sadness that surrounded Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin could be felt all the way to the top row where I was seated. The two reminded me of Laurel and Hardy at times. John Goodman was a pleasant surprise as he played his part to the fullest. What's nice about the play is ... read more that after the curtain comes down, it leaves you with oppotunities to discuss it's meaning on the way home; which I did with my family. If you're not a Samuel Beckett fan, I could see where the play may appear at bit flat but for me it brought back wonderful memories!! |

Don't waste your money Review by: Rebonzle, Apr 23, 2009 |
| The lure of the acting powerhouse was hard to resist, but I wish I had. Waiting for Godot is time honored, but these actors don't do it justice. Nathan Lane, who I generally love, played himself. I saw the same schtick from previous performances come through. John Goodman was flat, and struggled with his stage props. However, Bill Irwin was the one redeeming quality that made the show tolerable. His acting, mannerisms, and facial expressions ... read more were definately worth watching. |

Excellent Production Review by: Carol, Apr 19, 2009 |
| This is best performance I have seen Nathan Lane give in the past 15 years, and I have seen them all! Bill Irwin's comic genius is surpassed only by the incomparable performance of John Glover as the idiot. He has the range of acting that few can match and does not have David Straithorn's ego at turning down this part. In toto, the play, although not everyone's cup of tea, is a classic example of the absurdist movement. There could not have ... read more been a finer cast assembled. Even John Goodman, who rounds out the show, was competent in his part. |

Amazing talent, not an inspiring performance Review by: nyorker culture vulture, Apr 12, 2009 |
| Despite what was posted in the previous review, this was not a good show. Nathan Lane does comedy well, but was mis-cast here. John Goodman fell flat, as did the show. |

Do Not Wait to Get Godot Tickets!!! Review by: NYKnows, Apr 4, 2009 |
| Run don't walk but don't wait to get tickets to Godot! Nathan Lane is wonderful, and Bill Irwin is superb as the leads. Bill Irwin's wonderful clown training lifts both his and Mr. Lane's game to a new level and their truly human interaction throughout adds new depth and meaning to the play. The Tony voters will have a tough time deciding which one gets the prize. And to add to their wonderful performances, add stupendous turns by John Goodman ... read more as Pozzo and John Glover as Lucky, and you have the best cast ever (I have seen the play several times, including the Abbey production with Barry Magovern, and this one tops them all). Each character is carefully delineated, all too human and really thought-provoking. This Godot is perfectly paced, feels fresh but also feels timeless. Congrats to the director and set and lighting designers too, top notch all around. Sam Beckett would have loved this production. I will try to see this one at least once more in its limited run, to savor it again. Theater at its best. PS Be sure to sit in your correct seat - at intermission, I saw the ushers escorting those who had sneaked into more expensive seats up to their correct seats, and those with the right tickets were finally allowed to sit. At only the third performance, it was sold out, no empty seats, so don't assume you can sit anywhere, they will move you! |
