Bizarre story, one strong performance worth seeing Review by: Flybynight, Sep 21, 2010 |
| This show has its good points and bad points. My favorite part of the experience was watching Carson Alexander (playing Norm) perform. Norm could easily be a lackluster character that borders on the unlikable, but Mr. Alexander makes the audience sympathetic if a little uncomfortable; after all, everyone wants to be special, to feel successful in some way, and to feel like they're not just floating through life. So, while Norm doesn't have a ... read more backbone, you can tell that he desperately wants to get one somehow. Mr. Alexander gives him a spark of humor and a shadow of untouched darkness within. The other lead character, Bud (played by Bob D'Haene) is supposed to be a drifter who worms his way into Norm's home and head. The situation is somewhat fantastic to begin with, but even more so because there is no charm behind D'Haene's performance. He is overtly manipulative, but has no appeal and no subtlety. He also slips into sappy moments where he monologues, staring off into some unknown universe saying something "poignant". I wish Anne (played by Kaetlin Wilcox) had more to do as a character instead of just representing the "typical female" (shallow, fickle, and on the prowl for a man). In conclusion, a somewhat interesting if entirely unbelievable story with one very fine performance by a lead actor. |
