Amazing cast, lots of laughs, worth a return visit Review by: PJSpeck, May 7, 2013 |
| I saw this about a week ago and was so glad I went. I laughed out loud so many times and had complaints. Kristine and Shalita were outstanding and David was wonderful. I was bit disappointed in Sigourney Weaver's performance but it may have been the role she needed to play. I've seen her do comedy before but I don't think it's her forte. Kristine's Maggie Smith imitation is worth the price of admission on its own. I only wish ... read more my partner was there with me because it would have been nice to discuss the show with him afterwards. |

OMG so, so funny. Wasn't sure what to expect, ended up laughing so much. The dialog was excellent and the acting perfect. Could not expect more. So enjoyable. Only negative is the theater leg room..so tight, my knees are bruised. But, I would still highly recommend. |

A must see comedy and a Tony nominee (I hope) Review by: PJSky, Apr 28, 2013 |
| This was one of the best shows I've ever seen and not necessarily for the reasons you might expect. David Hyde Pierce was wonderful and Sigourney Weaver was great BUT the standout performances, in my opinion, were Kristine Nielsen (can you say Tony Nominee) and Shalita Grant. Billy Magnussen was also good but I found his character too one dimensional. There are so many laugh out loud moments that you can't possibly leave the theatre ... read more in a bad mood. I wish I had gone with a friend because I so wanted to discuss the show after it was over. |

Third Choice was a winner Review by: Mammascookin, Apr 12, 2013 |
| Hoping to snag a single seat for a Wednesday matinee, I rode into the city with my Broadwaybox discounts in hand. Kinky Boots sold out. Newsies sold out. I had also printed Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike after a friend raved about it. I wasn't disappointed in the least. A play with such quality actors as David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver has to be good. Well that was only the half of it. The other actors were brilliant, and their ... read more timing and chemistry couldn't have been more perfect. Next time YOU go into the city make it your FIRST choice. |

Definitely go if you have a MIND! Review by: Globo, Mar 28, 2013 |
| Fantastic... I laughed through it and on the way out. Clever dialog. Excellent performances. Slightly slapstick in places but not over the top. You don't really need to know Chekov to enjoy it. Definitely go if you have a MIND! |

Review by: EBC, Mar 10, 2013 |
| I haven't laughed this hard in years, and we go to shows at least a couple of times a month. Both my husband and I loved it, and highly recommend the show. The actors are all excellent, and people who don't enjoy it are missing the point entirely. It does mention some memories from the 50s, so it's possible that some younger people might not understand all those references. But we sat in the orchestra surrounded by people of all ages,... read more, and everyone was on the ground laughing throughout the whole show. |

Thank you, Christopher Durang Review by: Legs, Dec 19, 2012 |
| Very entertaining -- how can you go wrong with Christopher Durang as the playwright? There are guaranteed laughs whether or not one is Chekov-savvy and a really nice moment when Sonia has her phone call. Durang is funny and witty and so understands the human heart. Nielsen is wonderful as Sonia, David Hyde Pierce never disappoints and the three young actors are all superb, too. This show was super fun. |

Entertaining with outstanding Nielsen and Hyde Pierce Review by: aseatontheaisle, Dec 2, 2012 |
| This is a good, but not a great, play, providing a couple of hours of cheerful entertainment. And while a familiarity with Chekhov isn’t absolutely required to enjoy the play, such a familiarity would, I think, enhance your experience. Nielsen’s impersonation of Maggie Smith playing the role of the Evil Queen in Snow White is absolutely priceless and is one of the play’s high points. So too is Hyde Pierce’s Chaplinesque portrayal of Doc, one ... read more of Snow White’s seven dwarves. But the play’s finest moment occurs when Hyde Pierce goes off on a rant about how much better things used to be back in the fifties, when families gathered together in front of their black and white TV sets. Nielsen and Hyde Pierce really do steal the show although Magnussen and Angelson turn in perfectly adequate performances as Spike and Nina, respectively. I was a bit disappointed in Weaver’s portrayal of Masha which struck me as rather pedestrian. But Shalita Grant, the sixth actor in the play, did a fine job as Cassandra. |
