Well Worth Seeing Review by: Stick, Jun 5, 2006 |
| Well done. The play was a little slow getting into it but the story then took off after the first 20 minutes. Acting was top notch - writing and direction as well. It was thoroughly engaging. The cast was entirely professional as they kept their cool when at least three cells went off in the audience at different intervals. |

Very Enjoyable Review by: whiskey, Jun 4, 2006 |
| My friend and I thought this production was quite good - thought provoking, psychological with excellent performances by both leads. Really had me thinking after the show, I liked it very much. If you want to see a good drama, I highly recommend this show. |

Can the leopard change its spots? Review by: Tom Bestor, May 28, 2006 |
Can the leopard change its spots? This seems to be the question at the very dark heart of a new play by British playwright Karoline Leach. “Tryst” is the story of Adelaide Pinchin, a milliner with very low self-esteem, who is content to work in the back of the hat shop, where she has no contact with customers who might be disturbed by what she perceives as plainness and clumsiness of manner. One day she is chosen by a con man to be his ... read more next mark. George Love finds women with a little bit of money, gets them to fall in love with him and marry. Then, after a single night of wedded bliss (George is always careful to satisfy them sexually – it’s a point of honor with him. Perhaps his only point of honor.), George absconds with whatever assets they have. Adelaide, it turns out, has hidden depths, a reserve of confidence and self-esteem – and insight – that George hadn’t expected and proves to be more than he seems capable of handling. In the second act, when she turns the tables on him, the plot begins to charge forward: will Adelaide be able to change this man for whom she has unexpectedly fallen? At one point, she says “I’ve seen time going backwards,” and milk is spilled. I’ll leave it to you to discover the result of her rescue efforts, and whether or not the milk is successfully put back in the bottle.

challenging play it's easy to get wrong? Review by: Broadway Dude, Apr 15, 2006 |
| It's curious how polarized people are about this play. the critics either rave about it or get kind of angry about it. The same thing seems to be happening here. The buzz is that it's an unusual and challenging play that's easy to get wrong, and if you're a little superficial you won't get it. So in that case the New Yorker DID get it and the NT Times maybe didn't? |

Review by: DMS, Apr 12, 2006 |
| Saw this show last night with a friend. We both thought the production was very good, scenery was very atmospheric and the acting was excellent. Was a bit dismayed at the way the play ended, but to each his own. |

I saw "Tryst" at the first preview and wasn't sure what to expect, which made it all the more an unexpected pleasure. "Tryst" turns out to be an intriguing, totally entertaining play. It is perhaps difficult to characterize--part mystery, part romance, part psychological thriller-- but it's one that I'd recommend wholeheartedly for a dazzling evening of theatre. The performance of Amelia Campbell as Adelaide alone is worth the price of admission.... read more. It's a revelation. I'm not sure if I've ever seen her work before, but she gives a bravura, heart-breaking turn. Maxwell Caulfield is excellent, giving his best performance since "Entertaining Mr. Sloane". It's a beautifully mounted production, with great production values -- the set by David Korins, lighting by Jeff Nellis, and, especially, the haunting sound design by Johnna Doty -- under the breathtaking direction of Joe Brancato. Provocative play, terrific performances, lovely production!

A MUST SEE!
To those of you who love an intriguing romantic thriller, TRYST is a must-see! The play, artfully directed by Joe Brancato, boasts a pair of consummate actors. Amelia Campbell is breathtaking in her sensitive portrayal, Maxwell Caulfield astonishes with his range of talent --they draw you into their complex world and leave you stunned by play's end. A brilliant night of theatre! Don't miss it! |

| Did the other two reviewers see the same show I did? This show was god awful. A two character play, in which Maxwell Caulfield was disappointing. Aside from his shirtless scenes, there wasnt much to watch. While Amelia Campbell was an excellent actress, her talent was wasted on this bland, awful, boring script. There is unnecessary female nudity at the end which adds nothing to the play. When the "surprise" ending happens, you are glad the ... read more awful play has ended. I wouldnt be surprised if this play ends within a week of its opening. |

| An outstading piece of writing gets the thoroughly professional production it deserves in this riveting psychological drama. Maxwell Caulfield is a revelation (don't be put off by anything you've seen him in on screen) and Amelia Campbell shows what a sensitive actress she is. Moving and shocking. |

| I saw the show on 4/1 and was quite impressed by both actors'performances. They are extremely gifted and show off their range in this provocative play with a surprise ending that left my friend and I talking about it for hours afterward. Bravo to Caulfield and Campbell on their inspiring performances!! I highly recommend it for adults only. |
