2nd act is unbelievable Review by: flamingo, Jan 4, 2013 |
| The 2nd Act comes out of no where - no foreshadowing leading up to one the central characters transformation (which left me emotionally distant because it was so out of left field). Should have been far more satisfying...but missed that mark. Despite this well performed by the entire cast. |

Strong and Meaningful Review by: jess, Aug 25, 2012 |
| I saw Tribes today and thought it was a very good play. It is a story about a troubled family, each member having their own issues, deliberations, fears... it is a strong play. the theater is small and intimate. I forgot I was watching actors in a play, it just feels like you are getting a real peek into the lives of the characters. The actors were extraordinary. |

The run has been extended because it is that good Review by: Legs, Jul 29, 2012 |
| Ben Brantley's review in the Times last March was spot on. This play is wonderful. Theater-in-the-round fans will especially enjoy such a well done, thought-provoking work in this setting. It's easy to understand why Susan Pourfar has won so many awards for her portrayal of Sylvia -- amazing. The entire ensemble is terrific and comes together as a most believable family with a heartbreaking lack of communication and understanding. The ... read more play does leave you with some puzzling questions and seems to end abruptly. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be missed. |

Intelligent and heart-opening play with great performances. Review by: Lester Suzuki, Jun 6, 2012 |
| Tribes is a brave, intelligent play. Its exploration of language, family, (not) hearing and (not) seeing was heart-breaking and heart-opening. All the performances were deeply felt and the staging was intimate. In a season of excellent plays, this is perhaps my favorite. |

Close, but no cigar! Review by: Ron T, Mar 15, 2012 |
| When I learned that David Cromer directed this show I was very excited about seeing it having loved his Our Town. Reviews from the original London production of Tribes were favorable and the show sounded quite interesting. The main problem is the second act which has both the best scene in the show and the worst. The tacked on ending doesn't make any sense with what we've learned previously about the characters and is quite a let down after a ... read more wonderful first act. |
