| I managed to get a ticket to see Three Days of Rain on my visit to New York May 2006 and am so pleased I did. I felt most of the audience was there to see Julia Roberts in the flesh but we were not disappointed, the play was very good as were the performances. i just saw this play on june 15th and i LOVED it!
i got to sit 2nd row from the front and almost reach out and touch them. We could feel the rain! I love Julia Roberts and after this and being able to see her this close up i will be a fan forever ! and as for the men of the show OUTSTANDING performances! thanks for the opportunity to see julia so close up! i will never forget it! |

After all the bad reviews I saw, I was a little wary of this show, but I'm so glad I was able to go. I think that either Julia Roberts has improved with more performances under her belt, or the initial reviewers were confusing bad acting with a flat part. I was excited to see her, and I understand the show got a lot of publicity because of her, but there was no need to put Julia Roberts in that part. It is the smallest of the three, I'd say,... read more, and her character seems to serve only for Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper to play off of. The second act part was slightly more interesting, but for them both I doubt any actress could have livened up the role any more. I think too many people are used to seeing the romantic-comedy Julia, and this was not anything near that. She wasn't bad, though.
As far as the two actors... Paul Rudd was good. Bradley Cooper was AWESOME. I was a big fan (from watching Alias) before seeing this show, but I guarantee you he gathered many new fans from this performance, even if they had never seen him before. One speech of his got loud applause, and the audience frequently laughed at his character's phrasing and antics.
A few tips - if you tell the guards at the front you have a camera, they will make you check it. Waiting in line after the show will likely make you miss Julia Roberts at the stage door for a picture - she comes and leaves very quickly. The two men, however, came after her, stuck around, and were awesome. |

Applause to Julia for following her dream and making her
Broadway debut a reality. I saw the play with my husband on May 18th. Traveled from Colorado especially to see Julia in person. Her persona did not disappoint. And being in the first row, right side, we were able to almost touch her and feel the rain. The performances given by the male actors did, in fact, outshine Julia's, but again, I admire her for following a dream and ... read more making it a reality.
Without dreams and courage, we are left to be only half of our full potential. I enjoy musicals or comedies far above dramatic themes, but having a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' to see Julia in person far outweighs the negative reviews she is receiving.
Again, I applaud her courage to follow her dream, just as I followed mine to see her in person. |

Leave Everyone's Opinions At Home Review by: inova1, May 16, 2006 |
I've never seen this play before, so I had no idea what the plot is about when I went 5/12/06. Let me also add, I'm not a big fan of Ms Roberts. Her movie roles have a sameness--every once in a while she commits herself meatier roles, and does well with them. Within the first 5 minutes of the play, I realized the script is dialogue-driven. Another writers' version of adults piecing together the dysfunctional family secrets and lies, as well as ... read more their own. Having the brother unearth the deceased fathers' journal could answer questions that he never, or could ask his parents, and trying to share their fathers' daily notes with his sister, Nan, is an excellent way to present the psychological dynamics between the siblings. You can see the brother is jumpy, hyper (possibly manic), with an eagerness to learn about his fathers' relationships, while his sister is reserved, becoming more reserved each time her brother unearths a possible truth in the journal. Some critics wrote Julia's acting is poor; I say in order to keep some saneness around you to survive in a dysfunctional family, you can learn not to be swept into the emotional tug of war, unlike her brother. Nan's standoffishness is taken to such depths she begins to knit, or remarks in the most monotone way she can at critcal moments. Perhaps Julia's acting isn't up to par for Broadway--her acting does appear she is doing a walk-through with her lines. Is this the sign of poor acting, or Nan's learned trait of interaction with her brother and the family? In the second act, she plays her alcoholic mother, where you can see she is no longer walking through her lines--there is emotional diversity. Being sandwiched between Pip and Cooper, whose characters are full of life, they overshadow her in the first act. I rest my case, choosing the latter of the two--Julia is playing Nan, and playing her mother the way the two characters should be played. Yes, I wished her voice projected better at times, as I sat way at the top. This is a mute point considering her background is film--voice projection is a skill Julia can work on over time. If anything, the dynamics of the characters Ms. Roberts' portrays, leaves you to consider how good was her acting, not how bad was her acting. Hopefully this will not be her last attempt at Broadway. Go see this play for yourself, and leave everyone's opinions at home.

I'm not a big fan of Julia Roberts and have skipped most of her recent movies following her rude and pointless remarks about Republicans; but I give credit where it's due. Three Days of Rain is a solidly engrossing play with three excellent performances by three flawless players. Each of them play different people in Act One vs Act Two.

Ms Roberts plays both roles to perfection. If you didn't purchase a ticket for this play, too bad for you. Like this season's other standout, Pajama Game, the tickets are all gone. Both shows got lame reviews from the media, so those who rely on these airheads to choose their shows, tough luck! |

Watched the show on May 5, I've been to quite a number of Broadway shows and plays for the last 20 years at least. This will not rank as one of the best, however, it is not the worst either. The script is thought provoking, yes, the actors were good and JR constrained to the lack-luster character she had to play though the second act gave more life to the character she had to play. If you're looking for some mental exercise where you have to follow the script that leads you to uncover the mystery of the plot and you enjoy a dialogue-filled play - this is it.

For those that attend this production of THREE DAYS OF RAIN expecting to see Ms. Roberts in an ultra-flashy role and Oscar-worthy acting, they should lower their expectations a bit.
First off, in reality, Ms. Roberts' part is NOT the actual lead role in this play. The script favors the characters of Walker (first act) and Ned (second act) -- both roles played by Paul Rudd. More on this role-duality in a minute. Ms. Roberts' part(s) ... read more is/are secondary to Mr. Rudd's.
Secondly, anyone that attended a Broadway drama just for the sake of seeing their favorite actor and not for the story/plot are sorely missing the point. And it is probably this focus on "How good is Julia?" versus how good is the play that has people here confused and slightly disappointed.
THREE DAYS OF RAIN is about three/six characters. In Act One you have Walker, his sister Nan, and their friend, Pip (played by BRADLEY COOPER) meeting for the reading of Walker and Nan's father's Will. They discuss, sometimes directly with the audience, what events lead up to this point in their lives. In Act Two the story regresses some 30 years back to the "three days of rain" when the lives of Ned (Walker and Nan's dad), NINA (their mother, played also by Ms. Roberts), and THEO (Pip's dad) all changed forever.
Enough said about the play and plot except that if you are yet to attend please pay LESS attention to Julia's cheekbones and more to the story and be intrigued by this unique drama. |

The first half was a bit hard to follow, in a sense that as the information about the characters was revealed it was unclear as to why we need to know these particular details. Paul Rudd was excellent and very convincing as the guy on the verge of a nervous break down. In the second act all the gaps of the first act came together as a coherent plot. Julia Roberts seemed very confident at playing a seductive Southern Belle. Overall the play was serious and thought provoking. If as a viewer you are into light and bubbly stories you will not enjoy this one. If you like dramatic, dark stories this one is for you. |

| The show is amazing. It is a beautiful play preformed by three wonderful actors who bring chemistry and energy to the stage. Despite the critism, I think Julia Roberts is great in this play. She captures Nan exactly how I imagine Richard Greenberg saw her when he wrote the script. He is outstanding in the delivery of his lines and the audience really respond to his energy. I urge you to see this play and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. | I thought the show was terrible. Very boring. The acting was good except for the weak role that Julia played. The script was horrible. A complete waste of hard earned money. Roberts should stick to films at 20 Million each. |

Many times I was caught up in the play so entirely that I ceased to remember Roberts, Rudd, and Cooper were acting. The three of them played off of one another and worked particularly well together. | Although I am a poor college student, I went to see Three Days of Rain twice because I enjoyed it so much. The three actors compliment each other in such a way that their superb chemistry brings a great deal of energy to the stage. I love the complexity of Julia Robert's characters, namely Nan who is a slightly withdrawn character, a victim of her repressed childhood. During intermission a number of comments were expressed that Ms. Roberts was ... read more 'stiff' on stage. On the contrary, I thought her performance was terrific and portrays Nan exactly as I envision her in the script. Act II calls for a dynamic shift in character, Roberts proves her diversity as she plays Nan's mother a woman likened to 'Zelda Fitzgerald's less stable sister'. Paul Rudd is outstanding in his roles as both father and son. His transition between the two is so convincing that I overlooked the fact that they were both preformed by Rudd. Pip, played by Bradley Cooper, is the most engaging character in the script. Cooper masters the part, delivering his lines impeccably. His excellent comic timing is recognised by the audience who respond positively as he brings charm and humour to the stage. I adored the overall ambiance: the cosy Bernard B. Jacobs theatre combined with the intimacy of the set allows viewers to become wrapped up in Richard Greenberg's captivating script. It was an added pleasure to meet the actors after the show.
