Very clever show with funny references to the 1980's. Review by: shelly, Aug 18, 2006 |
| I just got home from seeing The Wedding Singer with my mother. We both thought it was excellent! Very clever with wonderful dancing. Sure it was campy, but it was a lot of fun. It did make me relive the 80's and it was great to be in my 20's again for 2 1/2 hours. I was so pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. |

really really bad. Review by: marc, Aug 12, 2006 |
My wife and I walked out after intermission and ran as far away as possible. The songs were as bland as could be. The dancing was not good. Its probably not the actors fault because the writing is so bad. Yes this is a spoof on the 80s...but living my life in the 80s this did not bring me back to the good old days.
This should be an afterschool special play that you pay $10 for...and Im not sure its even worth that. I believe it wont ... read more last another year. |

Excellent choreography, MUST SEE!!! Review by: , Jul 31, 2006 |
I usually don't write reviews, but this is one show that definitely needs some good press. I was hesitant to go see "The Wedding Singer" because I am not a big fan of the movie. However, it is a MUST SEE! I've seen nearly every current Broadway show and this is my new favorite! I could not get the songs out of my head. I've seen it three times already. It's light and fluffy and, most of all, FUN!!!
The choreography is incredible! ... read more That Rob Ashford did not win a Tony for this is a crime! The dance scenes are creative, orignal and altogether mesmerizing.
I'm was a huge fan of Stephen Lynch prior to the show, so I'll admit that I'm biased in his favor, but Stephen Lynch as Robbie is AMAZING!!! He has so much energy night after night (and I've seen it three times!). The entire cast is wonderful and funny.
It's not critically acclaimed because it's not "deep" like Sweeney. Pesonally, I go to a Broadway show to have fun, and The Wedding Singer delivers. DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!

Thanks for the memories! Review by: JoJo, Jul 24, 2006 |
| If I wasn't already married...I would have sent a proposal to Steven Lynch! I listen to the music from the Wedding Singer all the time at home. It put me right back into the 80's...high school, college, friends' weddings...and the wild clothes that I never thought I would wear! You will leave the theatre dancing and singing! Yippee to "Drunkie McWasted!" |

My wife and I saw this show July 1st and absolutely loved it. It was just great entertainment from begining to end. It keeped you smiling and happy every minute. Great performances from all the actors. The audience gave them a well deserved standing ovation. This show will be around for a long while. Grab tickets thru Broadway Box.com while you can. |

Loved it! Great fun for all over 14 Review by: Stacey K, Jun 19, 2006 |
| I couldn't wait for this show to come out. The movie with Adam Sandler was great and this was even better because it was "live". This is a must see for everyone. The music made you want to get up and dance. I could see this show over and over. It wa terrific! |

GREAT but prepare for sexual content and leave the kiddies home! Review by: just-a-mom, Jun 15, 2006 |
| A GREAT Show that has you tapping your feet, laughing throughout, and swaying to the music. HOWEVER, it is not for young children, due to the sexual content. I brought my 9 year old girl because the theater told me it was suitable for 10 and up. NOT IN MY OPINION. There was a family next to me with two girls about the same age and they left at intermission. I kept watching my daughter's face with each sexual line and thankfully she was ... read more clueless most of the time. I would recommend age 14 and up. Too many lines about "getting laid" and having a "date with your left hand," and "you need a prostitute!" My daughter asked "what's a prostitute?" and quick thinking I replied "No, they said you need to prosecute. He needs an attorney, honey." Needless to say, I would have enjoyed much more if I wasn't cringing for my daughter's sake most of the time, although as I said, most of it went right over her head. |

Fun Show Review by: Wandaful, Jun 12, 2006 |
| The female lead was played by the understudy who's voice failed to project. The rest of the cast performed well. I found myself tapping my feet to the music and being throughly entertained by the choreography. |

Broadway Review by: Siggy, May 31, 2006 |
The audience stood up and applauded at the end of the show. They laughed from the start. Their feet never stopped moving. In the intermission, everyone had a smile on their faces.
What is Broadway? If it is about having a good time, then this show is Broadway. Is it formulaic? Sure? Is it brilliant? Maybe, but not in the sense critics use the term. Is it Sweeney Todd or My Fair Lady? No, but what is? This is Broadway at its ... read more finest. Entertainment. Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland would have loved having roles in this production. |

| One of my favorite Broadway shows besides Jersey Boys. I've seen it twice and I plan on seeing it again. I laughed and teared up. Lovely characters and music. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to have a great time! |

A very funny show. Would certainly recommend. Review by: Oscar Madisox, May 28, 2006 |
Not what I expected, but a very nice time was had by all. I was under the mistaken impression that this would be a mix of familiar 80's tunes a la Mama Mia. Nope. All original songs with the exception of a couple from the movie. This was a very enjoyable show, very funny. I would certainly recommend it.

It may be their wedding day... Review by: folkyboy, May 28, 2006 |
The moment you step into the theatre and see that Mead notebook curtain design, you start to go back to your days of yore growing up. It's that sort of feeling you get when VH1 Classics starts airing a retrospective of your formative years and you can't help but turn away. It doesn't mean it's good...it just means it's interesting.
It means that I ended up leaving the theatre finding myself humming some of the catchy numbers and wanting ... read more desperately for the cast album to already be immediately into my iPod so I can appreciate some of the things I just saw. As alas, this "wedding" farsical wasn't all I'd maybe hoped it would be.
My roommate had called it "Theatre cotton candy" which I think would be the right word. It's good...but you don't want to eat too much of it or else you're going to become sick. Plus it's almost too long for a show that sort of doesn't do anything midway through. I found myself bored by the middle of the second act and not really caring how Robbie was going to get the girl.
Nevermind that this girl he's getting can't act! Trying to emmulate Drew Barrymore (who already can't act) should never be a goal one sets out to acheive. I almost felt sorry for Laura Benanti as she Archie-ed her way through the whole show. Her slutty friend actually held a lot more interest for me (and a lot better plotline).
I'd recommend seeing this show if there's not really an extreme need to see something with clout on Broadway. But don't go expecting anything other than runthrough of what you could've watched for free at home on Netflix.
I'll be getting the cast album though! |

As entertaining as trimming the hedge Review by: Tom Bestor , May 28, 2006 |
The word of mouth had actually been good on this musical adaptation of the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore film – funny, cute, entertaining. I need to pay closer attention to whom I listen: this was about as entertaining as trimming the hedge. The Jersey girls behind us seemed to like it, though: “Oh my god – that was AWESOME!” I wonder if they realize they were the demographic that was actually being mocked?

An Enoyable Show- It's an 80'spalooza! Review by: ResedaBabe, May 28, 2006 |
| My husband and I saw this on a Saturday afternoon matinee. It was cute and enjoyable. We saw the understudy Julia who was not quite as strong a performer as some of the other actors. We had the understudy Holly who was excellent. Fabulous singer, great dancer. The costumes and hair were spot on! I loved all the 80's references. I do think there was some gratuitous references to sex and profanity that would make me uncomfortable ... read more bringing small children and elderly people. Very entertaining. The choreography was perfect. I thought the role of the Granny could have been bigger. The actress was a hoot and she should have been allowed to do her rap as a solo. The character of George was also very funny. |
