Exceeded my expectations! Review by: , Sep 15, 2006 |
I was apprehensive when I purchased tickts, but I loved the movie and wanted to see how it compared. It was definitely one of the best shows on broadway, and I can't wait to see it again! The show had me captivated from the minute the curtain opened. The music was fun and lively, and the story was so funny, I did not stop smiling the entire time. Now, if you are going to broadway for a deep intellectual experience, you may be ... read more disappointed. The Wedding Singer is as lighthearted as it gets. Definitely a must see! |

Review by: Shirl, Sep 14, 2006 |
| i enjoyed the film, but the musical pales in comparison. Holly, the friend, has more stage time and focus than Julia, who is supposed to be the main female character! This show is fun, but it has no substance, and anyone going to see a show that means anything will be disappointed. |

9/9/06 8PM performance. I was a little bored with the 1st act but the second act was phenomenal from the moment the curtain opened. I really did not expect much. We only went because my kids wanted to see Constantine Margoulis, who was a perfect fit in his part and very very good. There is so much tremendous talent in this show! I would love to see it again. There was a complete standing ovation. I am an x-professional ... read more broadway performer myself and have seen many shows since the early 70's. The 2nd act of this show is as good as a musical gets. |

The Wedding Singer....LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL SHOW Review by: pola, Sep 7, 2006 |
| I think that the reviews are either exagerated or written by the producers of the show. The songs were "simple". I felt that I was watching a High School show. This is not BROADWAY |

GREAT show!! Review by: Melanie, Sep 5, 2006 |
I LOVED every minute of this show. From the moment the curtain opens, there's just so much energy and so much talent. The whole entire cast is amazing! It was suchh a fun show. Was it life changing? No, but I guaruntee it'll leave you smiling; and there are some pretty funny jokes.
There's some language in the show, but there are "child friendly" shows at the Wednesday matinee if you're concerneed. I've seen the show twice, and am ... read more planning on going back soon. Go see the Wedding Singer while you can. The cast is phenominal, the music is catchy and fun, the choreography is beautiful and the costumes are awesome. Now go buy tickets!! =) |

Save your money! Review by: b'wayalot, Aug 27, 2006 |
| A good cast is swamped by a disjointed story, so so songs and a show that goes on far too long. It's a test of how many 80's jokes one can endure. |

The Surprise of the Summer Review by: Broadway Enthusiast, Aug 25, 2006 |
I really didn't go to The Wedding Singer with any expectations, so I was totally surprised when I enjoyed it. Matter of fact, I have seen it twice this summer. I had never heard of Stephen Lynch before, but now I am a big fan. His singing a comedic styles add to the afternoon. In fact, the whole cast is tremendous. Both times I saw the show the lead, Laura Benanti, was out. I wasn't disappointed with the standby, Tina Maddigan. She ... read more is a charmer, with a terrific voice, she makes you root for Julia and Robbie to get together. Rita Gardner as Rosie steals the show and she really knows how to "Move That Thing." Likewise, Amy Spangler as slutty Holly has her moments to steal the show. Matthew Saldivar as Sammy and Kevin Cahoon as George are the perfect comic backup band members.
If you are going to see the "exact" movie, you will be disappointed. But fans of Broadway musicals will rejoice at the the subtle changes made to the story. Parents beware...the language and topics can be mature, but teens and older will not flinch at any moment. The ending to the show will both surprise and delight you. It keeps the essence of the movie while adding a new twist. The references to the lifestyles of the 80's throughout the show keeps you laughing. I loved the tribute to Flashdance.
This musical has the whole package: terrific cast, beautiful set, spectacular choreography and sensational music. This is a show that leaves you laughing and dancing in the aisle. |

One of the Best! Review by: Joe The B-Way Boy, Aug 23, 2006 |
| The Wedding Singer was one of the most phenomenal performances I've seen in my life. Granted I am only 16 but I am a musical theater freak and I know a good show when I see one. With over 60 shows under my belt I must say that The Wedding Singer is now at the top of my list. I would totally reccomend it to anyone who wants to have a great time at the theater. Stephen Lynch put on a dynamite perofrmance as well as my personal favorite Keven ... read more Cahoon. See The Wedding Singer!!! |

Pay no attention ot the naysayers Review by: phslaxmidi10, Aug 22, 2006 |
I do not understand how anybody can dislike this show. As somebody who has seen 20+ Broadway shows, I feel like I am able to speak my mind about the quality of this musical. The Wedding Singer is my new favorite Broadway performance; it was formerly Les Miserables. While the music and story-line in The Wedding Singer lack the "depth" of Les Mis type shows, the entertainment value soars above all the rest.
The music, while purposely ... read more cheesy, keeps the audience tapping their feet and laughing along with the lyrics the entire time. The extremely high energy level of the show starts the minute the curtain rises with "It's Your Wedding Day." The 2nd act includes the breathtaking duet "If I Told You." This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
The cast is also truely amazing. Stephen Lynch is absolutely fantastic. While Laura Benanti lacks the charm that Drew Barrymore had in the movie, she works perfectly with Lynch. The best part of the show, to me, was the fact that the entire cast looked like they were performing their last show ever and didn't want to disappoint. The energy level of the cast was through the roof. It looked like they were all having the time of their life, which in turn, made me enjoy the show that much more.
There are some parts of the show that could be considered inappropriate for younger audiences, but Stephen Lynch said on a radio interview that the Wednesday show is edited for content. They go out of their way to offer a show that's completely family friendly.
My point is, don't listen to anybody who gives this show bad reviews. They most likely prepared themselves to have to think through the entire show's plot and find a deeper meaning. You don't have to though! This show is pure fun, period. |

Disappointed....would not recommend Review by: MrMale, Aug 20, 2006 |
| I wanted to like this show...but was disappointed in it. I almost left at intermission. Fortunately, the second act is better than the first so it made the show tolerable. If you are from out of town and only have the opportunity to see one broadway show, don't let this be it. The show's production reminded me a high school play. This is the first time I left a musical without at least one song stuck in my head. The only song in my ... read more head was "Avenue Q" (after seeing the sign for that great show just down the road!). It's too bad the show went cheap on the music and didn't pay holding fees for some classic 80's music to incorporate into the show. How can you produce the Wedding Singer, without ANY 80's songs!!?? |
