Not Worth the Ticket Price Review by: , Jan 5, 2010 |
| Saw the show last night and my husband and I left at intermission (we weren't the only ones). From the first song, I knew I was not going to enjoy this play. I've seen other plays, but this one was more like a high school production than a Broadway production. The props were poorly done, the acting was lacking and the songs were not impressive at all. I would have preferred they used the same songs as in the movie. I think I would have just ... read more preferred to stay home and rent the movie and pop some popcorn (and saved our money). It just was not funny or entertaining at all. I was very disappointed. |

Wedding Singer- The "Hairspray" experience of the 80's!! Review by: Funnyman 2, Jan 4, 2007 |
| WOW!! What a GREAT show!! This show was TOTALLY 80's with every reference to the 80's that you can think of. I went with my wife and a friend of ours and all 3 of us were laughing from beginning to end. We didn't want the show to end and were very disappointed that the show's run ended on Dec. 31st as we won't have the chance to see this show again. The cast was fun and energetic but we were a little disappointed that Constantine Mauralis wasn't ... read more in the show we saw. My wife was waiting to get an autograph from him after the show but he wasn't there. GREAT SHOW!!!!! |

Surprisingly GREAT!!!!!!!! Review by: Michael, Dec 18, 2006 |
| So before I went I was a little skeptical that it would be a corny remake of the movie. Boy was i WRONG!!!! This was one of the most inventive, HILARIOUS and creative play I have ever seen. Their 80's remarks were histerical and nonstop throughout the whole play. This play kept you laughing throughtout while still touching on a great score. Stephen Lynch is AWESOME and a great lead along with co-star Laura Benanti who is one of the greatest ... read more actresses on broadway. Her tasteful way of portraying Julia is perfect. This couldnt be a better show...so go and see it before it goes off broadway on December 31st 2006. |

Can't stop smiling Review by: drdave, Dec 6, 2006 |
I took my wife to see the show this past weekend. We are both huge fans of the movie as well as the lead, Stephen Lynch. We heard through friends that the show was great but it exceeded our expectations. We laughed and smiled the whole show and left humming, "It's Your wedding Day!" The only low point poiint was when I realized I used to have the rising sun cut off sweatshirt that one of the ensemble wore...humiliating, but it was 1983 then ... read more and I was in college. |

"Love is what I do..." Review by: LimelightMike, Nov 27, 2006 |
I had the opportunity to catch THE WEDDING SINGER last May (the 30th, to be exact). I held off on writing this review for several months, I you can clearly see. That's surely enough of an introduction...
Let me begin by saying that I had GREAT seats. I treated my best friend to this show (as a "Welcome Home" gift). The initial set-up / stage decorating was really, really, really fun (VERY 80's, in case you were wondering). The scrim ... read more rises, and the party begins! This evening, we had an understudy for the role of "Julia" -- the lovely and very, very, very vocally gifted, Tina Maddigan -- and I was totally fine with it! The entire cast (leads, supporting, and ensemble included) put on their A-games, and delivered with a fun, jam-packed, (sometimes) silly, truly entertaining, rockin'-to-the-80's, flashback-incoperating, celebrity impersonating, stellar time! The music had the house bopping (especially the rap the grandma did, that had everyone cracking up!), the Sandler-penned songs throughout, and everything in between...The lyrics were just *that* clever and witty! The costumes and everything else of the sort took us back a good 2 decades! ENJOYABLE BEYOND WORDS!
If you're lookin' for a REALLY good time in NYC and want a good, clean-cut, all-around GREAT time laughing, sharing smiles, and relive the era that brought us brightly colored legwarmers, killer harmonies, booming bass and blaring guitar solos, retro-slternative meets genuine hair bands like R.A.T.T., Poison, and a whole bunch of 80's references...SEE THIS SHOW!!!
Best, - Mike :-) |

PG-13 Hairspray of the 80's Review by: , Nov 27, 2006 |
let me start by saying i had high expectations of this show but it was way better than i expected. the show started off upbeat and had no boring parts. act one was amazing but act 2 was even better. the show is like the movie but with a different ending. stephen lynch (robbie) , Constantine Maroulis (sammy) and Kevin C. (george) were all very very good. Julia the main character was not at the performance but the understudy was excellent. ... read more Also whoever played Holly and the grandma were very good. having said that after the show we waited for the cast. within 10 minutes we had pictures and signatures with the whole cast. if you are not in a rush def. wait around they come out fast.
this show is def. one of my favorites along with wicked, hairspray, jersey boys etc.
if you love the 80's go see this show (i would say leave kids under 13 home but many of the kids enjoyed it) there are bad words / mature content but def. a must see |

2 hours of light-hearted fun! Review by: Diane, Nov 27, 2006 |
| I took my 16 year old daughter to see this play this past weekend because she is a big Constantine fan. I had never seen the movie so I didn't know what to expect. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed this show. It was light and funny and very entertaining. No, this is not "Wicked" - but It was entertaining and I would definitely recommend it. |

Not A Bad Way to Spend the Day... Review by: David, Nov 26, 2006 |
| The Wedding Singer is one of those shows that you go to for entertainment, but recognize that it's about all you'll get. No phenomenal memories, no humming songs on the way home -- just a bit of fun and a nice way to pass the time. Clearly not a top ten Broadway hit, but good enough to call enjoyable...the most one can say is that some of the performances were outstanding. Kudos to Laura Benanti, who deserves far better than the role of Julia,... read more, but still plays it sweetly and with solid timing. She has a remarkable voice and a limitless future. Same goes for Kevin Cahoon, who's got a terrific sense of comedy. Constantine Maroulis more than held his own, and the kids got a kick out of a real-life "Idol" siting. Other than that, no passel full of Tony's for this show. The production is fair at best. Still, it's entertaining enough. |

Go see this show before it closes! Review by: S, Nov 19, 2006 |
I saw this show yesterday...and can't say enough about it! Although I knew (and really liked) most of the music beforehand, the CD does NOT do the show justice. Seeing the actors perform made each song that much better!
The actors were fantastic...Tina Maddigan was adorable and funny, Kevin Cahoun made me laugh the entire show, Granny was cute and spunky, and let's not forget about Stephen Lynch...absolutely FANTASTIC!
From the ... read more moment I walked in to the theatre, I felt as though I truly was back in 1985. From the set, costumes, hairdos, dancing, music...it was totally awesome! This is definitely a feel good show...I had to fight the urge to stand up and start dancing! It's a a shame this show is closing at the end of December...go get your tickets now! You will NOT be disappointed!
