more of a miss than a hit Review by: Conway, Mar 23, 2010 |
| this work feels a bit like a watching a newspaper or history report come to life on stage -- if you like that sort of thing, you'll probably like this piece. We did not although the playwrights message is abundantly clear and we couldn't agree more however his lead actor, older one, is good (as is all the cast) but we didn't find him charismatic enough to carry the piece. The play, direction and sets are just okay. We would have liked there to ... read more be, as another reviewer wrote, entertained more. The entertainment value is missing in part because there's no conflict. Much like reading an newspaper article in your own living room. No conflict - not entertaining enough equals a miss. See it if social issues presented in that sort of way is of interest to you...otherwise skip it. |

Could benefit from more Pizaaaazzzzzz Review by: Romance, Mar 19, 2010 |
| All four of us felt the play was not exciting enough to hold our attention. The point of it is well taken however it felt dated and lacked luster, pizazz, energy. Maybe because things have changed (some) and we're of a much younger generation. The play also lacked any real tension or conflict between the characters..and some of the 'stock' characters that were presented have been a bit overused, wouldn't you say mary? Not one of us ... read more believed the actors playing the leads would be a couple. Overall, the acting was good, however. |

Mildly engaging but needs some spicing up.... Review by: Twinkles, Mar 19, 2010 |
| Although a significant social and political subject (gay people are people too and deserve the same rights as other minority groups) with a committed cast, this play could definitely some juice or spice or something. Since it's only mildly engaging and falls short of actually coming off as being entertaining, we give it a 4 out of 10. Worth noting; no one in our group (ranging in ages 26-67) believed the two leads would be a couple. |

It's okay Review by: Carol, Mar 19, 2010 |
| The story of the founders of the Mattachine Society, pre-Stonewall needs editing. Although a basically interesting history of gay men in Los Angeles, there were several false endings in the second act. There is no scenery unless moving six chairs around the stage constitute the director's idea of setting. |

A piece of great theater Review by: , Feb 24, 2010 |
It's a pity about the title because I'm sure so many people will think it's a send up of a 60's guy group! This is absolutely GREAT theater. It's inspiring and informative whether you be straight or gay and the ensemble acting is superb. Go see it and marvel (ettes) |

An Extraordinary Evening in the Theatre Review by: Nicky, Jun 11, 2009 |
| This is what theatre is all about! Intelligent writing, innovative staging by Jonathan Silverstein, and one of the best ensemble casts around headed by Thomas Jay Ryan and Michael Urie. This is an honest, truthful play about a group of very brave men. The Temperamentals is a must-see! |
