No Justice! Review by: Ricky's Redhead, Dec 13, 2010 |
| After having seen last night's closing performance, I have to say that the fact that this show closed to soon is another crime against the Scottsboro Boys. The way in which Kander and Ebb handled such a sensitive topic was nothing short of brilliant. They allowed a very sad story to be told in a provocative way that doesn't make you cry, but makes you think and tell others about it. The music was great, the acting/singing/dancing were all ... read more wonderful, and the sets were perfect. Even though the staging was minimal, it worked and complimented the story without detracting from it. Again, this is a crime against the Scottsboro Boys and Kander and Ebb, that this piece of art was closed so soon. |

Memorable and emotionally riveting Review by: dear theatergoer, Dec 13, 2010 |
| Amid the unjust cries outside the theater of "Close it down!", I entered the Lyceum and saw a thoroughly rousing musical filled with innovative direction, energetic choreography, and a wonderful score by Kander and Ebb. The cast was exemplary, especially Joshua Henry in the lead role. The vocal harmonies filled the theater and overpowered the unmerited dissonance outside. This was a thrilling and thought provoking musical, one of the best ... read more I've experienced over the many years of theater-going. It's so sad it will not be seen on Broadway after today. Its absence is a creative loss for all Broadway audiences! |

Painful but beautiful! Truly what theaters should do: raise issues and emotions! Review by: Paul, Dec 9, 2010 |
The tragic story of the Scottsboro Boys and the injustice they suffered is one that must not be forgotten. This is theater at its best in my view. The only criticism I have is the choice to tell the story through a minstrel show. It did trouble me, but overall I would fully recommend this show for everyone. So much of the injustice that the show portrays is still sadly with us. |

A little too presentational too really work. Review by: goldenboy, Nov 24, 2010 |
I am a huge Kander and Ebb Fan and I love this score. I am a huge Susan Stroman Fan. But for me, this show did not quite work. It was so presentational and Brechtian that i could not quite get into the story. And I really wanted to love it. I went with high expecations and for some reason it just didn't work for me. Juxtaposing a minstral show with a bigoted racial incident is fodder for a great evening of theatre. But It just ... read more didn't work for me because the piece was so presentational. Brilliant ending however. The audience seemed to love it and hte people I went with seemed to love it. It just didn't quite work for me. |

This is a Must-See Review by: nina foresti, Nov 21, 2010 |
Yes, it is painful. Yes, it is tough to watch 9 innocent boys being accused of something they didn't do and having their lives ruined by it all because of prejudice and hatred. But this is exactly why it is so important to see this historical work. It is done in the style of a Minstrel Show but it is anything but a romp in the park. The more guilt-provoking, the more necessary it becomes. This was tour de force theater ... read more that doesn't stop after you leave. It will haunt you.

WOW! WOW! WOW! Review by: BigKen, Nov 21, 2010 |
| WOW to the music, WOW to the dancing, and WOW to the emotions extracted. This was an amazing show with not a dull moment. Very upbeat AND emotional. It just may be Kanter and Ebbs best music. I loved it and am anxious to see next year's Tony nominations. Go see it if you can. RUN! You will not be disappointed. |

Review by: MatineeMama, Nov 9, 2010 |
| This is the real thing - a great Broadway show! Memorable music and lyrics (I bought the CD on my way out!), an amazingly talented cast, and an important story that needs to be told...and it is told very provocatively using a 'minstrel show' format. I wasn't sure it would work, but I was pleasantly surprised. See it! |

Great theater! Go see it! Review by: purlygurl, Oct 29, 2010 |
| Absolutely fantastic. Loved it as did the others who went to see it with me. I am an avid theater goer and this show is well done, meaningful, terrific acting, significant story line and really what broadway and great musicals are all about. It's a musical like those of the past, get discount tickets while you still can, once it is reviewed this Sunday I predict great reviews and harder to come by discount tickets. This should be ... read more an award winner, |

Kander and Ebb Hit the Big Time Again Review by: georgek, Oct 25, 2010 |
| Broadway will have another hit on its hands. Cleverly conceived as a minstrel show with all the white characters (except one) played by a black cast. Brilliantly choreographed. Superbly performed by a talented cast. The opening number drew me in and created a momentum that was sustained throughout the final song and dance. The finale was deeply moving. This is a show that I cant wait to see again. |
