save your money! Review by: JNYC, Sep 28, 2007 |
| This was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. I thought the premise what a bit strange to begin with, but trusted that terrence mcnally wrote a good play. This is just awful. The acting is bad, the play itself is one giant stereotype, and the comedic lines are cliche. I walked out during intermission. couldn't understand why more people weren't walking out with me. |

| Brooks Ashmankas, Rosie Perez, Joe Mantello, Terrence Mcnally... need I say more? If so... where the hell have you been. If not run to the theatre. Still early in previews so some loose ends to knit up naturally. Just wait... it's been far too long since Broadway has caused this many to laugh uproariously outside of a musical. Thank you Roundabout!!!!! |

Puttin on the hits! Review by: BHT, Sep 23, 2007 |
| Hilarious, silly fun. The best comedy I've seen on Broadway in a long, long time. Rosie Perez is nothing short of hilarious and Brooks Ashmanskas had me howling. The entire cast is terrific(and terrific looking!). My friends and I had an absolutely wonderful afternoon in the theatre. Based on the roars of laughter and thundering applause, I'd say the entire audience loved it. Funny, funny, funny. I'd recommend it to anyone. |

Very campy...very funny...very entertaining... Review by: Theatre geek, Sep 23, 2007 |
Saw this show yesterday and found myself laughing throughout the show, as did the entire theatre. This is one of those shows you should make an effort to see, as it is a limited engagement show!

The Ritz is Puttin' On a Hit! Review by: Jersey Adam, Sep 22, 2007 |
Overall, the show was quite entertaining and funny. You will certainly love Rosie Perez's performance. Whenever she is on, she steals the scene. Here singing performance at the end of Act I, warranted a strong standing ovation from our Saturday afternoon performance (9/22/07). I was surprised to see how many senior citizens and straight people there were in the audience!
The second act dragged a little. The director was trying to ... read more tie all "loose ends" too quickly. There were many chuckles and lots of half naked boys which was good eye candy :-). My partner and I had a good time and would recommend it. We feel Rosie Perez has an absolute Tony Award winning performance. Good job to the cast! |

Definitely worth seeing Review by: excitedandscared, Sep 20, 2007 |
| I saw the second preview this past weekend, and I thought it was a great show! It is definitely one of the funniest shows on broadway. The entire cast is hysterical. It needs a little tweaking, but thats nothing that a couple more weeks of previews can't fix. |

Lackluster Ritz Review by: mickey, Sep 17, 2007 |
The set was great! You know it's a farce when there are at least seven doors on stage. Well, here there were almost 50! Too, bad, the director didn't use them so well. The pacing was the worst thing about the show, so maybe this will be improved as the previews go on. Rosie Perez practically steals the show. She's well worth the price of a discounted ticket! Some of the supporting characters are superb. Everyone seems to be giving ... read more it their best, but they can't get past the stilted direction. The script is dated and, thank goodness, they've kept the show as a period piece. The mostly naked men of varying body types (it is a gay bath house, after all)give you plenty to look at when the action stops. If you're a McNally fan and have never seen a decent production of the show, then definately go. If not...rent the movie instead. |

Miscast, Misdirected and missed the boat! Review by: TgdTC, Sep 17, 2007 |
| Other than a few slightly funny moments and Rosie Perez's nearly terrific cabaret act this show just doesn't quite work. It is a farce, and should be door slamming funny. However, I wished most of the doors would never open again in this production. Perhaps a director who understands farce might have made this dated, poorly written but funny concept work. Other than viewing hunky gay men walking around half naked, not much else to see here.... read more. Roundabout should reconsider their pricing considering the level of theatre they are producing lately. |

potential in previews Review by: chowdog, Sep 17, 2007 |
| the first act is a lively trip into laughter, the 2nd act derails the energy with confused blocking and a poor script. I hope it mends itself, because it has much going for it.Rosie Perez has a few great moments. |
