PLEASE READ! Teen feminist says no! Review by: shulamith, May 16, 2008 |
| Yeah i know it's closed, but my message still bears repeating: DO NOT SEE IT!!! Awful theme. "No woman's free who ignores her heart"? "A woman in love has all"? what kind of empowerment is this? It's male chauvinist musicals like this that set us back 50 years. Grace O'Malley and Queen Elizabeth were rocking figures in herstory, and they did not need the love of a man to be happy or powerful or free. Also, i love Queen Elizabeth 1 and this ... read more play turns her into a woman who's starved for affection instead of a strong woman. It also reinforces the concept of the "tomboys" (Grace) vs. the "girly-girls" (Elizabeth). Can't Boublil & Schonberg write about two women without invoking stereotypes? |

Hadley Fraser and Stephanie J. Block light up the stage! Review by: moira, Aug 4, 2007 |
| My daughter and I loved this show the first time we saw it, and returned with our husbands and another couuple--all agreed that the critics were so wrong! The costumes alone were worth the price of admission, but the stars of the show, Stephanie J. Block and Hadley Fraser, were even better: Hadley's solo "I'll Be There" brought down the house the night both times we saw the show! The dancing was amazing, especially the Irish numbers,... read more, and the score was beautiful. We bought the original cast recording and play it constantly--it brings back fond memories of a magical night on Broadway! |

Complete waste of time. Review by: KChalk, Jul 7, 2007 |
| This show was absolutely abominable. I am so disappointed that I actually spent money on the tickets. If I wanted to see Les Miserables, I would have gone to see Les Miserables. I didn't need a bad knock off. This show was strictly flash and trash. A bunch of pretty lighting effects and costumes, but terrible score and story line. Granted, the talent was definitely there, and I felt bad for Stephanie J Block for being in such a dud, but it was ... read more not enough to save the poor script. I was surprised it lasted as long as it did in the Hilton. |

Stephanie J.Block and Hadley Fraser light up the stage in The Pirate Queen Review by: declan, Jun 26, 2007 |
| My family loved this show. The costumes, the set,and the lighting were all wonderful, but the music and the choreography were beyond wonderful! The Irish dancing was senssational and very well incorporated into the story line. Stephanie J. Block gave a dynamite performance as Grace O'Malley, and Hadley Fraser was amazing: his voice is gorgeous and his looks match his voice! His rendition of "I'll Be There" brought ... read more down the house the night we saw the show. We all enjoyed this show immensely and were looking forward to seeing it again. Sad to see it go... |

Where are these outstanding reviews coming from???? Review by: Luv4J, Jun 16, 2007 |
| It is no wonder this show is closing so soon. It was horrible. I've seen a lot of Broadway shows and this was one of the worst shows I've seen. I think that it may be that whatever show plays at the Hilton Theater is doomed to fail. I saw the very short lived "Hot Feet" at the Hilton Theater and now "The Pirate Queen". I don't understand how people can say it was "amazing" and "wonderful". |

Holy God, bless this show!!!!! Review by: bettyt2123, Jun 14, 2007 |
| I'm sad to say that I saw The Pirate Queen for the third and last time last weekend. I don't care what anyone says...the show may have it's slow moments, and Lads will be Lads didn't fill Master of the House's shoes, which I think was the goal. BUT, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! And I'm going to miss it. |

Worse than Three Days of Rain Review by: Broadway Enthusiast, Jun 9, 2007 |
I can't imagine why The Pirate Queen is closing early... Yeah Right! It was all I could do to stay awake- I just didn't want to insult my friend who really wanted to see the show (she even admitted she was glad we only paid $16 a seat for last minute tix from a broker). I spent the whole second half counting scenes to pass the time and know when I could finally leave. There was nothing catchy about the music, and more of the irish dancing would ... read more have at least made the show bearable. Glad it's closing so something worthy can join Broadway.

Magnificent! Review by: Pumpkin, Jun 4, 2007 |
| This was an amazing production! Tickets were a gift from a family member and if I had been given the choice myself, I would not have selected this show. Wow, would I have missed out! The story, costumes and talent are all spectacular. This is truly an epic production. I am from out of town and come to the city once a year to see 4 or 5 shows... without hesitation, this has got to be one of my all-time favorites. I hope that this show will be ... read more given the chance that it deserves and will run for a long, long time. |

Incredible music, score, acting Review by: Rubuck, May 28, 2007 |
| I attended this play based on the fact that the music and lyrics were done by the same team that did "Les Mis". I wasn't disappointed. The music was incredible. Much to my surprise, the dancing (Riverdancesque, which I'm not a fan of) was great and not overdone. The acting was superb. This musical should be around for a long while. I highly recommend to anyone, especially those who like an 'epic' musical such as "Les Mis" or "Phantom" |

The Pirate Queen Reigns, and rightly so! Review by: mia, May 22, 2007 |
| Saw The Pirate Queen with a group of college friends this past weekend and loved it! The costumes were stunning, the music was beautiful, and the dancing was awesome! Hadley Frasier is the best-kept secret on Broadway: he has an amazing voice and he's hot! Stephanie Block is one lucky woman to play opposite him every night, and she certainly holds her own in the voice department--she's an incredibly talented performer. All eight of us agreed ... read more that this show should not be missed! |

Moving Review by: Dorian, May 22, 2007 |
We saw the show the night after The Drousy Chaperone and anything would have looked good after that. The lady from California who said that she fell asleep in the second act must have been wrong. Some people are entirely too pickey and I think go to a show determined to pick it apart. Where is your imagination and where are your dreams? We thought it was one of the best and I have been doing Broadway since the 1950's. They don't do many ... read more musicals like this anymore that you can get your teeth into. All the voices were superb and and moving. Go just to hear "I'll be There".I could have gone back the next night and seen it all over again. Could there have been better staging? Warren in San Antonio. |
