What do you think? Or, do you wish not to. Review by: Stevie Flora, Apr 18, 2009 |
Maybe many of us move too fast to understand the nuances which occur in Philanthropist. What do we miss in human communication? How much are we moved in our lives through predictable body language and verbal expectation? What happens when listening is a tool for honesty in the moment response? Do people really have the courage of their convictions or do they nod appropriately to the evening intercourse. The marketing of this play,... read more, and the lack of understanding of the title and what folks were getting into is the problem. And there was so much more...this is a play that you have to work at and get into.....inter active not passive listening. And for that matter, the audibility could be improved. Acting...good.....Broderick....very good in the character portrayal......perfectly annoying. S. M. |

Once is really enuf! Review by: Izzi, Apr 16, 2009 |
| As much as I love theatre sadly, this show was wasted afternoon. Steven Weber was the only saving grace for me. Only here for 10 days, wish I had made better use of my time. |

Don't waste your time and money Review by: Doodling Girl, Apr 16, 2009 |
Went to see the show last and was extremely disappointed with it. Husband feel asleep in the first act and I feel asleep in the 2nd one. From the start Matthew Broderick annoyed me with his awful British accent. His accent ruined an otherwise not so bad first scene with a dramatic ending. The rest of the cast was fine and Steven Webber gave a good performance, but the play itself was a bore. The boring aspect of the play was of ... read more course on purpose and the point of the play/main character. Had the role been played by a different actor who got more into playing the part than Matthew Broderick, the show might have been good.

Yawn! Yawn! What was that they just said? Review by: SHCRW, Apr 15, 2009 |
| Please save your time and money. The characters aroused/stimulated no sympathy or interest. Any existential angst or self reflection was not worth the time invested to wade through this mess. I'm tired of the Matthew Broderick Broadway "franchising" of his acting/"celebredom". |

Much Ado about Northing Review by: , Apr 13, 2009 |
| Saw show on 4/11. Fell asleep during the second act. A lot of what was said could not be heard. As Shakespeare said..."much ado about nothing." Had a moment here and there, but that's it! |

| YAWN - I left after the first half. I couldnt stay away. Although it was great to see Matthew Broderick, the rest of the cast was just a bore. The dialogue was so monotone and the plot just moved along slowly. Save your money and time! and go to see the other roundabout theater productions just as Waiting for Godot. |

Save your time and money. Review by: bwayalltheway, Apr 12, 2009 |
| I'm sorry but no. Had a funny moment or two, but I did not leave caring about the characters at all. I was disappointed--especially with my time. |

Matthew Broderick is the show Review by: chicosgirl, Apr 12, 2009 |
| Matthew Broderick gave an incredible performance but the play merely plodded along. We saw it in the second preview and the actors spoke very quietly. I hope that this improves. |
