I enjoyed it! Review by: , Apr 25, 2011 |
I thoroughly enjoyed this joy, as did my companion. Yes, a bit cliched in spots, but I thought it was funny & moving. Having the orchestras on the sides of the theatre in the boxes added to it, in my opinion. It was amazing how Donna Murphy can transforms from a grandmother to a younger woman in the blink of an eye. Worth seeing. |

I CRIED AND CRIED AND CRIED AND CRIED.. Review by: Michele, Apr 24, 2011 |
| See this play. Saw it with my parents and Nana. So moving. Cried pretty much non-stop from the middle of the first act. Donna Murphy was superb - so much emotion in her voice. Same for the actress who played her daughter. This play effected me on so many levels - one's legacy, knowing who you are and what your people went through, dealing with a parent who is loosing her independence due to dementia, living with ghosts of the past..... read more..Donna Murphy should win for best actress at the Tony's and I'm sure the play will be nominated as well. The music was beautiful as well. See this show. |

Must See "The People In The Picture" Review by: Ricka_61@hotmail.com, Apr 22, 2011 |
Exquisite evening in the theatre; "The People In The Picture" was incredibly moving. What is the importance of connecting to our famiy lineage? How do the hardships of their lives shaoe our lives? It made me think about my grandparents...what they went through during WW 2 -and how they wanted their children to do better. The music was lovely, and Donna Murphy is incredible - great acting, beautiful voice, and perfect for the part(Tony Award..... read more.) Intelligent, and quite bittersweet - you will love this show. |

Adequate Review by: Carol, Apr 22, 2011 |
| The People in the Picture is yet another Holocaust tale with a twist. Although it borrows heavily from techniques in Fiddler on the Roof, it is no Fiddler. The principal players: Donna Murphy, Nicole Parker, and 10-year old seasoned actress (!) Rachel Resheff are all very good in their roles. However, the play is draggy in the first act, so it's an expensive nap. The second act picks up when the audience finds out the reason for the ... read more dissension between mother and daughter. Except for one scene in the play, which divulges the secret, it left me unaffected even though my own family was incarcerated in the ghetto or murdered in Germany. I have read widely about this period in Europe and seen such productions as The Diary of Ann Frank, which do it so much better. |

Donna amazing Review by: GIC, Apr 22, 2011 |
I agree it should be in a smaller theatre; that aside the show is a tour de force for Ms. Murphy. I had a side side and the frame that juts out makes it hard to see the projections. If they move it back after the prolouge it would be better. Maybe the playbill could also define some of the yidish spoken it the show |

We loved it! Review by: TB, Apr 17, 2011 |
Well one thing everyone seems to agree with is that Donna Murphy is wonderful in this production. I agree also and think that it's another Tony for her. But it's not just her. The rest of the cast is amazing too. Where did they get kids that can sing and act like that? I think the story is one that everyone who has a family can relate to. At yesterday's matinee performance, the audience found plenty to laugh about which some ... read more people who reviewed this play didn't experience. I would say this crowd was emotionally invested in the play. Although you may not find the songs as memorable as some musicals, some are funny, some are sad and they all move the story forward. I liked last year's best musical Memphis but now can only recall one song. This is overall a much better musical. I already have tickets to see it again in 2 weeks and I can't wait to experience this emotional rollercoaster with other friends. |

Don't miss this fantastic show Review by: , Apr 17, 2011 |
I went into this show not knowing much about it or what to expect but was completely blown away by it. Right from the beginning I was caught up in the characters, the story, and the energy and it held up through the entire show for me. It moved me in so many ways I will definitely come back and see it again. Go see it! |

Donna Murphy triumphs through this mess. Review by: rskblueyes, Apr 10, 2011 |
It is always welcome to see an orginal musical not based on a movie or book. This production is well meaning, but very muddled. The dramtic elements were well done, however ever attempt at comedy fell flat, this included the musical numbers as well. The ballads were beautifull while all the comedy numbers sounded like second rate " Brush Up Your Shakespere" from Kiss Me Kate. All the performers were excellant. The staging and premise of ... read more the show very interesting. Donna Murphy proves once again she is one of the best actress around. Her work here is amazing. If you are an admirer of Donna Murphy like myself, this is a dont miss.

Donna Murphy Can't Save This Show Review by: , Apr 6, 2011 |
| Although I am a big fan of Donna Murphy, the show was a disappointment. The script and songs are lackluster. The other performers are good, but again, they just don't have the right material to work with. |

Thank you to the team who wrote it. Thank you for the actors that brought it to life. Thank you! Review by: MR, Apr 5, 2011 |
I went to see the show today and for the first time ever was I compelled to write a review. You owe it to yourself, jewish or not, to see the show. It’s not about its star, and what a star Donna Murphy is. It’s not about a plot, and what a story it really is. it about the experience of being there, understanding the fullness of life, the desire to share it with the ones closest to you, the strength of a family ... read more bond and the importance of keeping history in one’s heart. Thank you to the team who wrote it. Thank you for the actors that brought it to life. Thank you!

Disappointing Review by: dj12247, Apr 5, 2011 |
| Overall, I was less than impressed with The People in the Picture. The music was mediocre and the story needed fine-tuning. Although it still had me crying at the end, I think that was more a result of my inability to watch a show about children without tearing up than it was caused by the show itself. Going into it, I had expected more than I received. |

VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING Review by: Stoooie, Apr 5, 2011 |
| I must say I have to totally disagree with the 2 reviews posted on line. I love Donna Murphy think she can do no wrong, an absolutely amazing talent but the show. Oy vey the show. Act one is soooooo long episodic nothing flows story doesnt make sense the music not good the lyrics terrible. Those of you who remember Yiddish comedians will know that they never never had to resort to using "cheap" words for laughter, Yiddish humor was delivered ... read more with love tenderly and was genuinly funny, this is not the case here, and proof is that at last Sundays matinee the audience was almost quiet after each number, so I would like to know what performances these 2 people went to. When a show does not get applause and laughter the show is in trouble, and with the economy the way it is, people, this show is in deep serious trouble. Its just plain bad,, and yesm the last scene is touching, but anyone lying in a bed ill is gonna draw tears cmon now lets try to get broadway back to what it should be this is not it |

Great surprise! Review by: Vicki, Apr 3, 2011 |
I am a season ticket holder with Roundabout so I often enter the theater knowing little or nothing about the show. What a suprise! Among reviews that were not too good, I wasn't expecting much. I was wrong, and as it turns out, so were the reviewers. What a fabulous, beautiful, poignant story. Donna Murpy was impeccable,as were the others. PHENOMINAL!!! I laughed, but mostly cried and left the theater wanting to take my family back to see it ... read more again. Don't miss it. |
