Eh Review by: Mo, May 19, 2006 |
While Neil Simon's words could easily get laughs if just read at a podium, I must admit I laughed in spite of myself at the odd duo, rather than because of them.
Nathan Lane was very funny, although he seemed to mimick the same intonations and line readings as Matthau in the movie...eventually he totally won me over and added his own personality to it.
I was disappointed in Broderick's Felix, period paragraph. A characature, ... read more playing Jerry Lewis to a very believable, real person in the form of Oscar. Talk about odd couple - but that's not a compliment. Maybe it was the director, but the poker buddies didn't seem as into it, either. We should have felt a real tug when they left the room, wanting more from them. Instead, it was just ok, and at over $100 a ticket, in very cramped seats...ok is no longer ok. Wake up, Broadway. You're about to go under if you can't do this classic right. |

Baileystock and Bloom, one more time. If it's important for you to say that you saw the incredible duo then go see it. If you're looking for the highlight of the season this isn't it. The two come across as character actors. Oscars' slobbiness is practically narrowed down to him wearing Bermuda shorts and a baseball cap, other than that and a few potato chips there's no big mess. Felix has the exact same voice as Leo Bloom, umph, wonder ... read more why? Missed seeing Brad Garrett. Murray was good. The Pidgeon sisters were very good. |
