| I saw Drood today and it was very "okay". The talent was inpecable. The acting and singing was absolutley beautiful. The little dance nimbers that the show had were flawless. The story however was awful. It was very boring and hard to follow. My mom, knowing nothing about the show before hand, was completley lost the entire time. The costumes and set was BEAUTIFUL. It is quite difficult for me to tell you not to go see it because it has such ... read more great talent and I am a sucker for talent. It was a very fun show.. in the beginning. In the second act the whole audience participation thing got old. But, I feel it is most bias for me to say I didnt like it and for you to know go see it because Im never really a fan of actors breaking the fourth wall and speaking to the audience. Its a show within a show, which you must know beforw hand because the dialoge is not to clear about that. If you want to see a few pretty awesome company numbers, a few really beautifully done songs and PHENOMENAL acting, go see Drood. If you want to see an interesting story with a good plot, dont go see Drood. |

A perfect winter escape! Review by: pattycake, Jan 25, 2013 |
| This shiow is so darn much fun !! And the actors seem to be having as great of time as the audience.Sure, it's more burlesque than high drama, but it's pure entertainment, and the time flies all too quickly. The biggest surprise was the incredible vocal talent. Some jaw dropping singing! |

More to Like Than to Disparage Review by: aseatontheaisle, Jan 23, 2013 |
This revival is great fun. The singing is exuberant, the choreography energetically acrobatic, the acting infectiously joyous. The sets and costumes are magnificent and the general ambience of this play within a play (the premise being that the incomplete Dickens novel, here adapted for the stage, is being produced by a theatrical troupe in Victorian London) is cheerily successful. Add to that the play’s interactive conceit in which it is ... read more left to the audience to determine who killed Edwin Drood, who the bearded detective Dick Datchery might be, and which of the play’s many characters are destined for romance, and you’ve got the makings of an entertaining evening. To be sure, the show’s music is more derivative than memorable and I doubt that you’ll find yourself humming any of its tunes as you leave the theatre. And the audience participation conceit is a bit hokey after all. But, all things considered, the show has more to commend than to disparage. |

Drood is a must see! Review by: keeo, Jan 21, 2013 |
The show is brilliantly staged. Entertaining and mischievous. The actors draw you in and make you feel a part of the crazy chaos. Will Chase delivers a deliciously charming and twisted performance that steals the show. (Bravo, Will) ;o)

Lots of laughter!! Review by: Lin, Jan 14, 2013 |
A very fun, energetic show. While we did not see Chita Rivera or Will Chase, the cast was fantastic; they were obviously having a great time on stage. It was full of laughter, though the music is not memorable. Being able to "vote" on different aspects of the ending made this a truly unique experience.

Mehh Review by: David, Jan 12, 2013 |
Saw this the 10th of January and there are some good and not so good aspects about the show. Let's start with the good : Stephanie J. Block is amazing. Her vocal talent is remarkable, I have nothing bad to say about her acting and she's just fun to watch. I also love the idea of the show, the audience participation aspect, the British pantomime and music hall traditions that they use in the show and there are a few good laughs ... read more here and there. I also loved Jessie Mueller! Now the not so good : It's just not that impressive. There is one great "dream sequence" at the beginning, but other than that there isn't anything that stands out. The structure of the musical and the way the story is told doesn't work. It's hard to understand just what is going on. Some songs are also boring and aren't necessarily needed to keep the story moving. I surprisingly sometimes didn't even understand what some characters were saying and why they were even singing in the first place. As for the theatre, I'm quite sure the audience heard and felt the rattling of the subway at least five times during the show which was perhaps out of control but kinda too bad. The poor legroom (I was in the mezzanine) and the restrooms which could have been cleaner didn't help the overall experience. Maybe those who have read and enjoyed the novel will appreciate it more... |

Serious theater-goers shouldn't waste their money . . Review by: nannerl, Jan 6, 2013 |
| My husband and I left after the intermission. There wasn't a single character that one cared about. Dickens must be turning in his grave. A grave disappointment. |

A fun night! Review by: hairybs, Jan 6, 2013 |
Overall, an entertaining show. The cast is excellent and the show is interesting BUT the best parts are when the cast improvises with the audience. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the show (who wouldn't enjoy seeing Chita Riveria as an opium den owner) this show would not be the best choice for a young adult or someone who isn't a huge broadway fan (the 20somthing male sitting next to me was bored out of his mind) |

Overacted farce- left at intermission Review by: Hilarion, Jan 1, 2013 |
| I could not sit through the second half. I love theater and this is the worse and most amateurish production I have seen. After the first act I left. The story line is horrible and the music unmemorable. I went to see it because of Chita rivera assuming she has standards but this is an exception to her usually wonderful Broadway performances. Miss it. Avoid it. It was packed but after intermission many patrons left. Had it been a ... read more high school performance, I would have stayed but Broadway deserves better. |

Great Cast Gimmicky Plot Review by: Dietgrl, Dec 2, 2012 |
Just saw a Friday night showing of this musical. The Good: The actors all have strong voices, and those that don't (Chita Rivera, Jim Norton), are fantastic musical theater performers who could sing a phone book and make it interesting. The sets are beautiful and evoke the mood of an 1800's London. The songs are beautiful. The Bad: The theater is next to a club so on Friday night I could hear the baboom, baboom of the loud music, felt ... read more sorry for the musicians and actors who had to put up with this distraction. Try going to see this show in the afternoon instead. The plot is thin and skips back and forth between the mystery and the dance hall performers who are performing the mystery. Got confusing when you are trying to figure out the who's who of the mystery and who's who of the dance hall actors. Its not really a mystery that you are supposed to figure out. I understand that this is a revival, but they failed to update the big gimmick of this show and that is choosing the detective and the murderer. You do so by hand clapping and vote counting by one of the actors who comes to your section of the theater and counts votes. I felt like I was at a dinner theater show. Could they not come up with a better and faster way to count votes and utilize some kind of current technology? Otherwise what was the point of this revival?

Great Fun at the Theatre Review by: Bill from Long Beach, Nov 22, 2012 |
| I tend to not enjoy these types of shows, but I ended up enjoying it immensely!! The cast was uniformly great and the conceit of the finale was very interesting. Such a thrill to see who the two lovers ended up being...Ed Norton was si great in his two roles...such a thrill to see Chita Rivera...Will Chase, whom I could not stand in "Smash" was great...and Andy Karl was too damn sexy. Stephanie Block was also wonderful as the title character.... read more. I also thought the scenic design was incredible!!! Such a great time I had at this show! |

Wat to Go Drood! Review by: OP, Nov 8, 2012 |
| A celebration of all the senses. Drood was a pleasure. This is what theater should be all about. Enjoyment. The characters were humanly portrayed, their dress attentively designed, the plot moved smoothly, and the audience was cheering and participating. way to go! |

Go to see Jim Norton! Review by: joan, Nov 4, 2012 |
| I can't believe no other review has mentioned Jim Norton who is just about holding this show together! It's still in early previews but he is the most watchable and entertaining person on that stage, and the rest of the cast should be watching him for tips on what to do. Don't miss an opportunity to see a great great talent. |

Unique, Interesting, and Fun Musical. Review by: EdwinDroodReview, Oct 27, 2012 |
Just saw this today in previews - October 27. This is a star studded cast. Stephanie J. Block, Chita Rivera, Will Chase, Jessie Mueller, Betsy Wolfe, Jim Norton, all perfection. No one disappointed. Brilliant acting, singing, and dancing. The show was really funny and I LOVE how involved the audience is! I love the whole you choose thing. This is honestly a great show, go see it before it closes in February. Before you go see it, get ... read more familiar with the story because you might get a little confused. By the way - the whole cast is extremely nice/friendly. Got my Playbill signed by pretty much everyone and got a picture with Stephanie. And another thing, the costumes, sets, and lights are all to die for, and the show is not for kids. |
