Worth watching! Review by: boogaloodownbroadway, Mar 19, 2010 |
| Already knowing the story, I was pleasantly surprised to want to know even more after I saw this play. The acting was engaging and compelling...one of my friend's had tears in her eyes at the end...and is a teacher herself! As a actual real person in life and a character in this play, Annie Sullivan was colorful, interesting and inspiring.I hope to learn more about her in the future...she was even funny in this play which was unexpected by ... read more me.Abbagail Breslin has a very physically and emotionally demanding role as Helen Keller, and conveys the frustration of someone with an active mind locked into a mute state. If you don't have empathy for others, this play may not be for you...but if you do...treat yourself to an emotional journey that is experienced in different ways by many who are differently abled and only need an opportunity to find a way to express themselves to thrive... |

Good, but not great Review by: rforeman, Mar 10, 2010 |
I saw the show last night. It was good, but not great. Abigail and Allison were fabulous in their roles, but the other actors don't come close to their caliber and thus drag the play down a bit. I really felt as though Allison and Abigail become Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller. The other actors did not play their roles as convincingly. The story is one we all know. So, you are not going to be suprised by the storyline. And perhaps that ... read more is part of the problem, the story is so well known that it is hard to be grabbed by the story. There was a chatback last night and it was interesting to hear the Director's take on Jennifer Morrison's role. While I could see her vision, I don't think that Jennifer quite got there on stage, the agony of having a child that you don't know how to help. The realization that you have to allow someone else to save your child. I do think that the play is excellent for younger children who may not be as familiar with the story. |

A play for families to experience together! Review by: outoftowntheatrelover, Mar 9, 2010 |
| A show for families without flying monkeys or nannies? You bet! This is a compelling, thoughtful production with a timeless story and strong, three-dimensional characters. The theatre-in-the-round stage seems at first glance like it will be distracting, but instead adds to the intimacy of the piece. The audience is made to feel that we are eavesdropping on an actual family going through their day-to-day lives, albeit in crisis, rather ... read more than watching an orchestrated dramatization on a traditional stage. The children in the audience (and there were many) were riveted. You could have heard a pin drop. If ever there was a play worthy of a 50th year Broadway revival, this is it. Let your children experience the power of pure theatre! |

Extraordinary performance, highly recommended! Review by: , Feb 19, 2010 |
This was an amazing show- moved me to tears. The actors are all outstanding, with the precocious Abigail Breslin succeeding in bringing the deaf, blind character of Helen Keller to life. I'm stopping myself from mentioning the entire cast by name, but they were all exemplary. The set was very interesting, with the "circle in the square" theater requiring a creative touch. Sets and props were raised and lowered by cables in the ceiling.... read more. Occasionally, the props blocked the view of the actors facial expressions, which could be a bit frustrating, but overall, the theater allows for a very intimate viewing. Although this is far from a comedy, there are many light-hearted moments and quips, resulting in a heartwarming and inspirational play. I saw Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins and the Miracle Worker consecutive nights during my visit to NYC, and this was by far my favorite. |

Inspirational play with solid performances Review by: theratrefrannyk, Feb 14, 2010 |
The Miracle Worker is a very good show with some outstanding performances.Abigail Breslin as Helen and Alison Pill as Annie Sullivan really do an effective job.Alot of hard work went into those parts to choreograph all the movements I'm sure.I thought Jennifer Morrison was excellent as the mother as I felt her pain. The only complaint I have is that due to the "circle in the square" venue, there were times I ... read more couldn't see the expressions and I surely missed that, especially Helen's. Overall a solid production,no surprises and yet I was still moved to tears at the end. Loved that children were in the audience. Even though the playbill tells of Helen Keller's life after the play, please do more research to find out what an amazing and inspirational person she was. You will see that with the right guidance and love, there are endless possiblities for everyone. |

| Saw "The Miracle Worker in 2nd night of previews, suprised how well everything flowed. The set design was unique, and all the acting was top notch.Alison Pill's role of Annie Sullivan deserves a Tony nomination. This is not a light weight drama, but still a very enjoyable show. |
