Disney's magic comes to life
Review by: , Jun 22, 2008

I saw the Little Mermaid today and here are my thought. First off I bought Middle Mez. Tickets and there were railing in front of us making it hard to see. So i suggest you get tickets either in the lower mez. or orchestra. Okay so anyways, the scenery throughtout the show was magnificent and absolutly breath taking. The actress who played Ariel was very good, as was sebastian, the chef, ursula, and the rest of the cast. However I felt ... read more King Triton was not tough enough, so i was not impressed with him, however he didnot ruin the show for me or anything. The music was very good, and i did not have a problem with sabastians costume at all. Also i would like to add that the child who plays flounder is absolutly adorable. The wheelies didnot bother me although one of ariel's sisters took a nice fall at the end of the show. Overall It was definitly an enjoyable experience. The only thing that bothered me was the screaming children. There were tons of screaming 2 year olds not quite ready to enjoy theater. There are "scary" parts so I would say 5 and up would enjoy this show. Lastly, compared to other disney shows on broadway in my opinion was my second favorite. My favorite was Beauty and the Beast, followed by this, then lion king, then mary poppins, then tarzan. I would recommend this show to you.

40 from Montana loved every moment of The Little Mermaid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review by: mom from MT, Jun 4, 2008

As part of a group of 30 senior high school kids (girls and boys) and 10 adult chaperones, most of us attended our first and only Broadway show in mid-March. I was thrilled to be going and was NOT disapponted in The Little Mermaid. I am 50 and I have to tell you I was absolutely, positively spellbound the ENTIRE time. I don't know what was more magical, the sets, the costumes the voices, the choreography, the music, the special effects/lights.... read more. I felt as though I was looking through a giant sized aquarium with all the old characters I loved while watching the movie with my daughter--now almost 18. It was truly one of the wonderful parts of our 4 days in NYC and it was loved by all that attended, even the big tough boys who weren't thrilled knowing they would be going to this show--til they experienced it!!!!. We all raved and talked about it all the way back to Jersey to our motel rooms. Thanks for a truly wonderful experience. Nothing else will ever compare to what I experienced in that theatre and it is a memory my daughter and I will hold dear! The mermaids were quite believable to me---I thought the costuming for them was the BEST--tails, heelys, and all!

The best Birthday gift ever!!!!
Review by: Dulcemia, May 20, 2008

I went to go see "The Little Mermaid" for my birthday on May 17 and I loved every minute of the show. The actors were all spectacular and is a night I'll never forget. I went with my Mother & daughters (ages 7 & 15). They were very excited and had a blast. My Mom thought Eric the Prince was sooooo handsome. I've always loved the Disney Character Ariel. I loved Ursula and my daughter thought her costume and her persona was scary.... read more. Now I'm telling the rest of my family to go. Well worth seeing. Sebastian & Flounder rocks!!!

Beyond my expectations--especially for those who are young at heart!
Review by: Naomi G., New Jersey, May 16, 2008

I went into the show expecting something a little less than spectacular, but halfway through the first act I was convinced that I MUST watch this again with my friends and kids. Granted the costumes could use a little more refinement and some parts were a little corny, but the audience loved it anyway. And we must remember that this show is brand new--as it goes on, the overall production will develop to make everything ... read more more streamlined and beautiful (as was the case with Beauty and the Beast). Even if it wasn't perfect, the voices were definitely fantastic, and I believe the show is carried by the perfectly-cast actors. Sierra Boggess looked like she stepped out of the cartoon and brought such a sweet, endearing quality to Ariel. Ursula and Sebastian were also so wonderful, and everybody clapped when they heard Brian D'Alessandro (Flounder) sing. Plus, they all had great comic timing. I think that the extra songs and change in plot line added more depth to the original story, and is very suitable to the stage adaptation. If you notice, they just built upon the original tunes and scores from the movie. I don't expect most adults to like this too much (especially critics, who also panned Beauty and the Beast when it first came out), but you should watch with no grand or bad expectations but to enjoy the music and the visual spectacle. If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's the brand of feel-good Disney magic that the show will leave you with. It's definitely fun, and I don't think it should be missed if you have the chance.

Mermaid Magic
Review by: SER, May 6, 2008

I had seen this show over the past weekend (May 3) and I have to say it is one of the most magical shows. The costumes were amazing, and the set blended perfectly. The best part of the background was the ship, which came down from the ceiling, was when it rose, as a beginning to the next scene, as if to show what is happening "under the sea." The way Prince Eric had fallen through the water is another incredible trick. The voices on the ... read more actors were phenomenal, especially Sierra Boggess as Ariel and the young actor who played Flounder. The show, with a slightly different plot line, exceeded all my expectations. I had believed, from reading other reviews on this site, that the show would be a let down. I was wrong, it is now one of my favorites and I expect to see it again. It truly is a show to see! So my advice? Believe what you want, but make your own opinion of the show and go see it!

Total Disney
Review by: Javy, Apr 21, 2008

I went to see this play as a matinee. I would say its total " Disney". What I mean is that it's in the tradition of " Beauty and the Beast" and " Tarzan". If you are taking children, I would reccommened children older than 7. The Production is excellent, but the storyline is one dimensional, and you can see it coming. So the kids would say " Mommy and Daddy..I had a Great time .." The adults would say " ...Do you want to go to McDonald's ... read more or Burger King ?"

Where to sit?
Review by: , Apr 16, 2008
|
|
I'm looking for tickets to go see the show, and a lot of people are saying to go with the orchestra seats over the front mezzanine. What is the advantage to sitting in the orchestra? Are the effects or the views better?...because the tickets are the same price. Thanks.

Great Effects & Acting, Would See It Again!
Review by: , Apr 15, 2008

Although this show was not one of my Disney favorites, it was definetely a great production. The sets were a bit strange with the exception of all the underwater scenery, but the lighting, dancing, and acting were all fabulous. The actors who played Ariel, Ursula, Sebastian, and the eels (Flotsam & Jetsam) were the best in the show. One of the big distractions were the costumes for Flounder and Sebastian. Otherwise, everthing was great.... read more. I would definetely recomend this show for anyone who is a fan of Disney or Broadway musicals.
