Horrible writing and acting...save your money and 2 hours of your life Review by: Dusty, Jan 25, 2007 |
I thought this play was terrible. While Julie White gives the best performance of the group her shrilling voice on stage is painful to hear for 2 hours.
The writing of the play is below average at best. The whole story line is based on the audience believing an up an coming actor would fall for an annoying prostitute (Johnny Galecki) that he called to his room but didn't sleep with due to him getting too drunk. For some ... read more reason the prostitute stays with him all night, even after robbing him, just to say goodbye in the morning and then they all of a sudden fall in love?!? It's horrible. |

Killer one liners, but play itself is less than the sum of its parts Review by: Jim S, Jan 16, 2007 |
While the play itself is less than the sum of its part, the one-liners here as so killer than I'm actually considering buying the text if it's ever published so I can steal the zingers.
The cast highlight is undeniably Julie White and while she has been accused of being over-the-top, I didn't think so. She was spot on throughout and hysterically funny. |

Biting, funny, miscast in part, queasy about the ending Review by: Oats, Jan 7, 2007 |
| Biting and cynical -- that's what I expected and what I got. Some of the wit is spectacularly funny - if that's what you want and know you are getting, which I did. (Yes, I suppose you can call it "gay humor" if that how you pigeonhole things, and if that how you pigeonhole things you probably won't like it.) Julie White is amazing and I liked the basic story line, except for the ending (see below). BUT Tom Everett Scott is woefully miscast. ... read more He just seems alternately confused and easygoing. You never get a sense of real inner tension about his situation, and therefore the crucial opening scenes with the hustler don't lead you to believe the emotional leap his character makes. Johnny Galecki, while a surprising physical choice for the hustler role, gives a nuanced, ultimately touching performance. Finally, the ending, while inevitable given the Hollywood sendup of the play, left me feeling queasy and unsatisfied. I suppose that was the point, but I walked out of the theater unhappy. Still, if you know what you are getting you may have a wonderful time. |

Awful show Review by: Stu, Jan 4, 2007 |
| Quite honestly,I am glad this show is closing,it is yuppie humor and bad humor at that. Probably one of the most annoying sad little shows I have ever seen on broadway. Save your money, a total waste of time all around. |

A great actress on Broadway! Review by: DMNY, Dec 26, 2006 |
| It was great seeing an actress chew up the scenery like Julie White. She delivers some of the wittiest lines on Broadway. Rest of cast is good but don't hold a candle to Julie. |

Review by: , Dec 16, 2006 |
I thought this show was very funny, clever & entertaining. Julie White is fantastic, it is a real take off on celebrity, ethics & other issues.
For adults only, however, there is nudity, men kissing and cursing, so if you are prude or find these things disturbing I advise against seeing it.

What a woman! What a role! Review by: Philly theatre-lover, Dec 2, 2006 |
My husband and I saw this play in previews. It came alive only when Julie White was on-stage - the playwright wrote all the best lines for her and she performed them exactly right. Casting was odd - the heartthrob actor wasn't, the gay hustler was unattractive and the girlfriend didn't seem very sure of how to play her (underwritten) role from scene to scene. Worth it mostly to see Julie White in a tour de force. If you can get discount ... read more tickets, do. |

A great show...Brava to Julie White Review by: , Nov 30, 2006 |
| This show was absolutely excellent. It all started with the writing...The play by Douglas Carter Beane it all the right notes in telling a tale about the movie business both in New York and Holloywood, and the greedy disengenuous people that inhabit that world. It also deals with important subjects like should a homosexual actor come out to the public, and the effects that would have on his career...womens place in the business would, and what a ... read more woman must do to be successful, and how people hustle one another in order to survive. Julie White who plays the actors agent Diane, gives probably the best performance of the year in a Broadway theatre...If she doesn't win a Tont award as Best Actress in a play there is no justice. She takes a rather stock part, and makes it her own, so much so that you cannot imagine anyone being able to replace her. She receives able support in two remarkable performances by Tom Everett Scott as Mitchell the actor, and Ari Graynor, as Ellen the "party girl" who lets you into her characters pain with insight and humor. The only weak link to me was Jonny Galecki as the hustler Alex. Somehow, I don't picture him as a gay hustler, since he lacks a certain charisma in acquaiting himself on stage. There seemed to be something lacking. Other than that, this was a supurb production, with spot on direction by Scott Ellis, set, ligting and costumes were all wonderful too. I would give this play a 9 out of 10 rating, and would recommend it to all adult discerning theatregoers. Not a show for the tourists. |

Witty and fast paced. Review by: , Nov 26, 2006 |
| I thoroughly enjoyed this show. It was fast paced; the dialogue sharp and witty. Julie White's performance certainly stood out but the rest of the cast was solid. The staging worked very well as did the music. I highly recommend it and may well see it again. |

Julie White is awesome but the story is so-so! Review by: TheaterLover2, Nov 16, 2006 |
| Just saw the show last night (11/15/06). Julie White is fantastic!! Her lines are clever and snappy and sharply witted. She is the reason the show is funny. However, the story line is so-so. I had no idea what to expect - but I think I expected a little more from the story than presented. Hysterical and moving in minimal parts. Quite a treat to see the two male leads in their birthday suits!! It seemed to take the audience well ... read more into the 1st Act time to grasp the concept of the play. I agree with others who reviewed this show saying that it was "OK". See the show if you can get discounted tickets. Not worth the asking price. |

Julie White is not worth it Review by: ilasik, Nov 14, 2006 |
The play is just OK, with Julie White well-received by the audience (I did not find her particularly funny) and the supporting characters being somewhat weak. Tom Cruise did come to mind when watching it but I was fairly bored at various points. Better things to see on Broadway. |

Don't waste your money! Review by: hais23, Nov 13, 2006 |
| I saw this play before it even came to Broadway...and I must say that I didnt like it all. The story line is weird - and it is gay themed...Quite honestly I was confused, and think that there are WAY better shows to spend your money on. |
