Spectacular Review by: markncheese, Mar 20, 2011 |
| I thought this musical was one of the best out there. I saw Wicked, American Idiot, Chicago, and Avenue Q, and I must say that this show was the best of them all when I went to New York. The costumes were spectacular and the entire cast had amazing vocals. The African style is just gorgeous. And I know the choreographer. You must not expect it to be anything like the movie. It is not heartwarming, it is just spectacular. You must think of it ... read more as its own musical, not an adaptation of a movie. 5 out of 5 |

Review by: mini, Feb 18, 2011 |
| I took my daughter to New York, we only had time to see 1 show so I chose the Lion King. We were both so pleased with the choice, from the very first minute this show was totally enthralling, cast, stage, costumes were absolutely amazing. What a visual feast, an experience we wont forget any time soon. Our seats were great, in the front row wings upstairs., I could reach out and touch the member of the cast who came to sing ... read more during the opening minutes |

Not thrilled.. Review by: , Nov 18, 2010 |
| I wasn't really very impressed with this show. I had heard of course that it was fantastic, but honestly, in the first act I was quite bored. The first act drags on, it didn't have anything I recognized, there wasn't much of a story at first..of course it does evolve but it was just really slow. The costumes are really imaginative but I thought they were distracting. I couldn't relate to the actors and there really was no connection there. I was ... read more overall, disappointed. The singing was alright..not even spectacular. The exception to this was the adult Nala, she was fantastic. The second act was better, but all in all, not sure I would pay full price to see this. I've also seen Wicked--now THAT is a spectacular show. Maybe I was expecting too much after seeing Wicked..but I wasn't thrilled. |

BEST BROADWAY SHOW EVER Review by: , Nov 14, 2010 |
Just saw the Lion King for the second time and would continue to see it over and over again! The music is my favorite part of the show, the opening number is overwhelmingly powerful and brings tears to my eyes from its pure beauty and musical genius. The costumes and set designs are amazing - costumes elaborate and beautiful, sets - simple yet effective. This show is amazing for young and old! BEST BROADWAY SHOW I'VE SEEN! I CANNOT ... read more WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN |

What's all the fuss about?! Review by: GoldenGift, Jun 26, 2010 |
I have heard many great reviews about this show and as for loving the film, I reccommended it to myself and my family and we all went to see it. I was so disappointed! The Circle of Life was very good with all the costumes and the animals walking down the isles and I wish they had kept that for longer like they do in I Just Can't Wait to Be King which was completely dull. No colours, no bouncy music. It was like I was watching an amateur ... read more play. I had high hopes to see this and was expecting to be thrilled. I was not thrilled in the slightest. The rest of it was very boring and didn't match the film's standards. My family didn't enjoy it that much either. It is without a doubt one of the most overrated shows ever. I absaloutely loved Wicked, Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Oliver, My Fair Lady and all the other shows out there. This is not as magical as I thought it would be. But go see Wicked. That deserves all the hype!

Not really what I expected... Review by: , Nov 12, 2009 |
Having experienced a few shows on Broadway, I had a tough time with this one. We attended a Saturday night showing of The Lion King. The acting wasn't the greatest but the singing was fantastic. And when you go to a musical, the singing should be great - and it was. The person playing the role of Scar was awesome as was the person playing the role of the monkey (can't remember her name). The production does a great job of bringing the ... read more show to life with great costumes and going through the aisles. That being said, I was a bit dismayed that I had to pay the expense it costs to get the Broadway experience (flights, hotels, food, tickets, etc) to hear somebody else's child sing "Hakuna Matata". We had a child near us that talked, climbed seats, sung (loudly), etc. Although the parents tried to intervene some, it still robbed those near of the full experience. Don't know if they have a showing where children under a certain age are not allowed but I think such a setting would have made the experience better. Without the distractions, this could definitely be a fantastic experience for adults. Moreover, I didn't like being hit up for monetary donations at the end of the show by the cast either. As we were leaving, cast members were asking people to donote money to some cause; didn't we just pay $150+ per ticket? Anyway, it felt a bit pushy. Being that they were adapting it from a movie, the show lacked the originality that I have come to expect from Broadway. I had really hoped they would put their own spin on it. They didn't - it followed the movie very closely. The big exception to this is the costumes; wow! The person in charge of that needs a bonus - great job there! And, as always, the singing itself was pretty terrific. Overall, I would give the first act a hesitant average scoring and the second act a definite thumbs up!
