Visually Outstanding Review by: janeshon1106, Aug 8, 2012 |
| What makes this show special is the stage set designs and the costumes and all the visual elements. Unlike most other shows where costumes and stage sets are two separate categories, there is a blend in the stage set and the costumes in the show.
The puppet like figures that are in the shape of the animals controlled by the actors on stage definitely contribute to the visual elements of the show.
I had the chance to see the production at ... read more rear mezzanie seats last summer and it was definitely worth it. The characters and costumes along with the beautiful stage sets really does bring together the safari world and from far away, everything looks like real animals! It is a perfect combination of art, entertainment and music :) Because Lion King is able to bring all these three elements together, it becomes a great show.
It's also a great show to watch with Family and Children especially when the cartoon that children love is brought live at a whole new dimension. It is also a great show for children because it really teaches the value of family and the importance of having parents in our lives which is of course no other than Walt Disney's trait. Because the show stays loyal to this trait, the show becomes suitable for everyone.
I best recommend front mezzanie seats for those of you on a low budget. It is affordable and yet you can see the entire show as if you are in the safari itself |

Excellent! Highly recommended! Wonderful for all ages! Review by: showgoer, Jun 11, 2012 |
Excellent! Wonderful! Great music. Amazingly creative puppetry. Beautiful stage set. Amazing how they were able to pull this African Savannah setting off on a stage! Beautiful use of all African culture, wardrobe, art and music. The acting is over the top. The show takes place not only on the stage but all around you at times and even over your head. A completely amazing experience. Highly recommended. Went to see it twice! It was THAT ... read more good! Worth every cent! |

Best to watch as a family Review by: , Jun 9, 2012 |
| The first 5 minutes were the best part of the night. The costumes were amazing, the singing was amazing. You really felt like you were in Africa looking at the animals. Also in the theater there are other puppets, costumes and history of the play. It was a little bit boring at times and feel it's best to watch as a family. Teenagers might not be as keen of the play since it hasn't got as much wow factor which is up there street! If you are ... read more sitting at the back, you may need binoculous! Other than that a complete sucess. Well done! |

Truly For the Kids or If You haven't Seen the Movie Review by: upthehudson, Apr 23, 2012 |
| To be fair- this review comes from an adult who has not taken a child to Disneyworld in over 15 years. And I loved the movie when it came out so many years ago. But this production did nothing for me. Sure it's cleverly staged at times and the acting is not to be criticized(though I often found myself wondering whether I was observing lip syncing). But there is very little that is fresh if you've seen the movie and for the price they are getting ... read more for a ticket (even discounted), I expected to be much more impressed. Pretty much the same songs and dialogue done with masks and puppets in a huge theatre. At one time, there was a much smaller scale stage production performed at the Magic Kingdom that was included with the park admission. It was no less entertaining than this Broadway version. |

Good show, didn't live up to expectations Review by: Parekai, Mar 3, 2012 |
The show was good, but don't walk in expecting to be blown away. If you do, then it is not so impressive. Just expect a good musical, and then you will be blown away. I have read reviews and watched videos over and over again about this show, so I had lots of expectations, so I didn't really like it. The costumes were beautiful, but a bit too literal. I am a costumer for cirque du soleil, so I know how to make something ... read more that implies the animal, but in the lion king, the costumes just distracted. PS I also got the understudy Simba, and I was not very impressed with him. PPS: Timon and Pumbaa made the show for me. |

Review by: Tod, Dec 11, 2011 |
A ROARING SUCCESS I saw "Lion King" 9 years ago in London and I think the show has been improved dramatically as it seems to be more "African". It is worth spending the extra on good seats in the stalls so you can appreciate the genious of the costumes. If you are too far back, you don't get this perspective. A really wonderful production. |

UNFULFILLING Review by: sue, Nov 26, 2011 |
| The first five minutes were the biggest thrill of the night. The procession of costumes and singing are enthralling but it all felt empty after the novel opening. Having live actors try to act like cartoons made it all quite hollow. No script, no character development-it was like watching a sketch that lasted two hours. Microphoning actors also overpowers any the actors having to do any powerful expressing or emoting; the essence of live theatre ... read more for me. If you go expecting a show for very young children you will not be disappointed. If you go to see amazing costuming, you will feel fulfilled. But as theatre, it was quite a superficial experience. |

An overwhelming, fantastic experience. Tshidi manye who plays rafiki is a godess. Review by: jm10112, Nov 9, 2011 |
| If you think the lion king is just a mild version of the movie, u r in for it, because this show is sick. By sick i mean an overwhelming phenomenon. A parade of elephants, zebras gazzeles, girraffes. The entire show was a phenominon. The mix beween the music and the costumes in the opening number brought me to tears. |

awesome show! Review by: lollipop, Oct 18, 2011 |
| This show was absolutely awesome!!!!!! I had seen it 7 or 8 years ago and I've been wanting to see it again for a while. I finally went and it was well worth it. All the costumes and sets were out of this world! (My favorite costumes were the cheetah, elephant, and Scar.) this show is awesome for all ages - not just little kids. it's better if you know the movie before but you dont need to. in a nut shell, out of the 10 broadway shows i saw, the ... read more lion king is definitely up there even though i loved all of them:) its a must see for everyone!!! theres a good reason all the shows are sold out! |

Not for adults Review by: Alex, Sep 26, 2011 |
This is a show for kids. We were bored silly - it was like watching a parade at Disney World that lasts for hours. The puppetry and costumes are top notch but otherwise, this lacks in every respect. Most of the music is straight from the movie and is fine but nothing spectacular. The new songs are lackluster and don't match the style of the others. The acting is ok but, as I mentioned above, this is a kids show which means much ... read more of the dialogue that worked well in the cartoon comes across as silly on stage. We left at intermission and couldn't get out fast enough. |

| If you want to see interesting animal puppets go to a museum. The scenery is beautiful, but after seeing it for 5 minutes what else is there. This show is the worst waste of money. I was bored in the first 5 minutes and left at intermission. |

Sucks! Review by: Broadway Writer, May 24, 2011 |
| I paid full price. Show was sold out. It stunk beginning to end. The acting was amateurish. The singing terrible. No one was motivated. Most the cast seemed like it was their first time ever on stage. No dances were synchronized. A very lazy performance. No one cared on stage. They were tired and came off as idiots. BORING! WORST MUSICAL I EVER SAW!!! |

Animals are very cool. Review by: inside your mind, Apr 17, 2011 |
I am not a Disney fanatic at all ( I do not understand the hype and obsessions that go along with Disney) but I did enjoy the show. The story of the Lion King doesn't appeal to me that much, but the dancing/body movements in animal like ways, and music made the show entertaining. Also if you sit close -- I was in the 1st row, the animals interact with you, which is fun. The orchestra was great in the production I saw. I found myself watching the ... read more conductor throughout the show. The music is very good, not as catchy as I thought it would be though.....after the show was over I was humming The Phantom of the Opera to myself instead of The Circle of life haha. You cannot compare Phantom music to Lion King music.....too different. It is very long, and by the end I was ready for it to be over. Not sure I would see it again unless the tickets were free of course. Wouldn't be my first choice though, I am an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan. Or would choose to see Billy Elliot. |
