VERY GOOD, CUTE SHOW!!!! Review by: Maestro, Jun 19, 2006 |
| This show is amazing! The sets are beautiful...the actors are incredible (Victoria Clark and Aaron Lazar especially) and the music os so thrilling. Not many people appreciate the music the way musicians do. The melodies flow and are absolutely brilliantly orchestrated. I hope Adam Guettel releases a score for purchase. I would love to study it. I am sorry to hear that the show is leaving. I'll have to see if I can go again before it closes ... read more soon! Anyway, for someone who is looking for a powerful and enchanting musical...RUN TO THE BOX OFFICE AND BUY TICKETS TO THIS SHOW!!!!!!! IT'S LEAVING SOON!!!!! |

Light in the Piazza lights up your heart! Review by: Drama mama, Jun 18, 2006 |
| This is a beautiful, touching musical/operetta. The music is not mainstream, although the song, "Light in the Piazza" is lovely and anyone who enjoys fine theater will enjoy this. Victoria Clark is untouchable as the quintessential southern "Mama", and brilliantly connects with her audience and handles the thrust stage issues magnificently. The rest of the cast was also very good and Ms. Clark's obvious encouragement ... read more of the young actress portraying her daughter was lovely. Not everyone will rave about this show but it is about very real issues facing parents of children with disabilities and the conflicts of reality with the dreams and wishes of such parents. The set is simple but very effective and the staging was inventive and effective. I agree that this is a wonderful theater - you can see from anywhere and the sound is great! I love this theater and I loved "Light"! |

Pricy, just OK, music not memorable Review by: Kat-na-hat, May 27, 2006 |
| We paid over $100 for tickets ordered ahead of time through ticketmaster, the most expensive show on our recent trip to New York. It was OK, music was sweet but unmemorable. Probably just as good without the music. The mother was wonderful, all other actors average. I was disappointed considering all the hype and high price. The theater is great, no bad seats. We did have excellent seats in the eighth row center. This show will be on ... read more tour next year. Save your money in New York for the Drowsy Chaperone and Bridge and Tunnel, two new shows. B&T will probably not tour since it is "New York" oriented. |

FAVORITE MUSICAL EVER Review by: JULIE, May 8, 2006 |
| I HAVE SEEN "THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA" THREE TIMES AND WAS AS MOVED THE THIRD TIME AS THE FIRST. THE SCORE IS BRILLIANT-MUSICALLY REWARDING FOR THE SOPHISTICATED LISTENER AND EMOTIONALLY REWARDING FOR A WIDE AUDIENCE. AS FOR THE CAST, EVERY ACTOR IS SUPERB, AND VICTORIA CLARK AND AARON LAZAR ARE STANDOUTS. THE THEATRE IS LOVELY, SETS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND ORCHESTRA IS GLORIOUS. THIS HAS MOVED TO THE #1 SPOT ON MY LIST OF FAVORITE ... read more MUSICALS AND I WISH I COULD SEE IT ANOTHER 10 TIMES BEFORE ITS JULY 2 CLOSING. |

Slow. Review by: Sandy, Apr 23, 2006 |
My adult daughters and I go to Broadway a lot. I had never been to Lincoln Center and really enjoyed being there and the theatre-in-the-round experience. But the story line was weak, the music unmemorable, and afterwards we were debating if Act 1 or Act 2 was slower. Both were pretty slow. There are many other more enjoyable shows out there. |

Ray of light Review by: brucek, Apr 19, 2006 |
The most artistic show that I have ever seen. Beautiful beyond belief. I saw it twice, both with Victoria 'supurb' Clark, and both times with Kelli O'Hara, I knew that her leading roll was right around the corner. Can't wait ti see Harry & Kelli in Pajama Game. The sets, lighting, costumes, music, lyrics are all great. Seeing it at Lincoln Center is a treat in itself. If you have not seen this non-commercial gem then make plans now!... read more! Tissues? (yes). |

Review by: Jon, Apr 10, 2006 |
| This is an absolutely gorgeous show. The music from Adam Guettel (Richard Rodger's grandson)is challenging--and like Sondheim--rewards repeated listening. It's not hummable because it isn't reprised over and over. So if you're looking for a sophisticated, literate evening, DON'T MISS IT. If you want leave humming the lush and complex score, buy the CD first. |

Review by: Marci, Mar 24, 2006 |
| The production value of this show is wonderful and the acting and singing voices are great. The show just falls apart at the musical level. The music is so, well, UNmusical; I found it hard to recall, hum or sing any of the songs afterward. Typically, I would buy a CD of any show I've seen immediately, but with this show my husband and I agreed that the music was up to speed in one song only and the rest was not working at all. I suggest ... read more that with the cost of musicals, to skip this one. |

Review by: varekai475, Mar 11, 2006 |
| After all the hype(ncluding 6 Tonys) I was HUGELY dissapointed. The acting was fine, the sets and costumes were great, but this is,lest we forget, a musical. The music counts A LOT. Yet strangely i found myself completely unmoved. The music was so unmemorable and so plain. Some of the melodies played during musical interludes was actually nice, but once the lyrics became involved the whole thing fell apart. Make no mistake, i don't ... read more mind serious stories/romances, but Spamalot, and even Spelling Bee were both much more deserving of that best musical tony award. |

| Classic Broadway romance, the type that needs to be written more often: This musical has the most wonderful score and the plot is similarly delightful. I purchased the soundtrack the next day - simply beautiful! |

| I'm sorry to say this show is leaving Broadway soon. The scenery is beautiful and the actors are quite talented. This is more of a classic Braodway show - love story, romatic songs, etc. |
