Like a brand new Tennessee Williams play! Review by: Thom, Mar 27, 2010 |
| I saw this classic Tennessee Williams play last night and believe that Judith Ivey does for Amanda Wingfield what Cate Blanchette did for Blanche duBois last fall. The production is revelatory and the entire cast is flawless. Pacing is leisurely but that is the only flaw in a play that treats this classic as though it was a brand new play. Patch Darragh is brillant at showing Tom as the young Tennessee Williams. |

Great way to re-connect with one of America's greatest playwrites Review by: CloverCat, Mar 23, 2010 |
We saw the March 23rd performance and enjoyed it a lot. The actress playing the mother was particularly strong, but all of the actors were very well cast and performed skillfully. We liked some of the staging techniques, including reliance solely on candlelight for the critical scenes with the gentleman caller; it added some nice atmosphere to the story. I won't comment much on the play itself since it's so well known, but we loved it.... read more. It's not exactly light, happy, tourist fare, but it's refreshing to see in part for that very reason, and always good to re-connect with one of America's greatest playwrites. |
