Absolutely not to be missed perfect piece of theatre and entertainment... witty, clever, visually appealing, entertaining ... Stock characters and period acting were customized to fit into anyone's criteria

Go Canada! Review by: markinto, Aug 14, 2006 |
| One of the best times I have had at a musical! The story, songs, sets are all first rate. All it's missing is Don McKellar. |

I bring a message from a nightengale! Review by: Andrea, Aug 13, 2006 |
I just saw this show. It is by far my new favorite musical! It's absolutely adorable, and I left the show hoping that one day I would get a chance to be in it at some venue! It's so much fun, really silly, and a really good time. If you can, I'd say don't listen to the music before you go see it. I think that it spoils the show a little bit if you've already heard the soundtrack (which I had). On the other hand, if you ... read more have already heard all the music, it's ok, there are so many surprises and many things that they purposely cut off the soundtrack so that we could still have our fair share of surprises. The story is corny, and some of the props are overkill, but that's the point, and part of the fun!
I left feeling like it was $110 well spent!

Bob, you da bomb ! Review by: mo, Aug 11, 2006 |
| Two words to this show's success: Bob Martin. The Man In the Chair is adorable.....and he co-wrote the book ! Fantastic. The show itself has a flaw or two, but its ingenuity makes you want to forget them. Have a good time. And bring a Power Bar (inside joke) for there's no intermission. |

Don't forget to buy the souvenir program!! Review by: MA, Aug 11, 2006 |
| I saw Drowsy Chaperone as part of a Broadway Workshop, where we talked with Bob Martin! Didn't know very much about it, except that it was a fun show within a show. Saw it from the last row in the balcony. I LOVED IT!! Couldn't stop laughing! And I loved not having the intermission, though after the show I ran out to buy the souvenir program, and everything was all locked up. Just a hint--BUY THE PROGRAM! It's as funny as the show!! I ended up ... read more paying twice as much for it, at a souvenir store. Came home and followed my husband around reading the program to him, and telling him about the show, then e-mailed all my friends and told them we MUST go back to NYC and see this show. If possible, see it with the original cast as they are hilarious. What a funny original show! And it's family friendly! Already planning a trip back with friends. |

A Drowsy Delight Review by: Judi , Aug 10, 2006 |
| For our 31st Anniversary my husband and I flew to NYC from Toronto to sightsee and attend 3 plays. My favorite was The Drowsy Chaperone. It made me laugh and think and laugh some more. The Man in Chair seemed to be reading the minds of his audience with his witty and all-to-real comments regarding the "in house" musical and the state of theatre in general. The cast does a fabulous job in their singing and dancing renditions. Danny ... read more Burstein plays the bumbling Latin Lover with just the right amount of exaggeration. This play is lesson in delightfully demonstrating how musical theater should be performed. The Drowsy Chaperone is an absolute joy. |

Enjoyable Review by: R., Aug 3, 2006 |
| If you want to have fun and leave the theatre smiling, go and see this show. Bob Martin is a true genius. The characters are so much fun. It looks as if everyone on stage is having a good time. A big plus - no intermission! The costumes are magnificent. |

We loved it, many funny bits. Review by: Sharon, Jul 13, 2006 |
| My husband and I just saw Drowsy Chaperone and really loved it. We laughed and laughed. Most of the gags were quite funny, some were groaners but you laughed in spite of yourself. There were so many funny bits you had to pay close attention. I loved the fact that there was no distracting intermission. We were in the mezzanine but still had great views and great audio. "Show Off" was a show stopper, the costumes were fabulous, and the sets were ... read more so clever. Fun for the whole family. |

Who.. would think of putting an olive into a Gibson?????? Review by: Drama mama, Jun 18, 2006 |
Who… would think to put an olive into a Gibson?????
Perhaps you have to have grown up around theater people who were dedicated Martini and Gibson drinkers to really enjoy that line, but it had me rolling on the floor! That and most of the rest of the show had the three members of our party laughing hysterically most of the time. Bob Martin guides us through the dated musical by narrating the story as it is performed in his living room. ... read more His lines are equally humorous, "Dear Lord, please let them (actors in a show he might go to see) not be in the aisles. I don't go to a Broadway show to have the 4th wall come tumbling down around me."
This show is written with wit and insight into the theater world, both from the actors and the theater fans point of view and Bob Martin delivers it perfectly and with sensitivity. It is a joy to see an actor who thoroughly understands his material and delivers it without taking himself too seriously. This is a fun and funny show! Beth Leavel is fantastic as the constantly drunk chaperone and is right on with her portrayal and delivery. Sutton Foster, who was wonderful in 'Millie" lacked spark in the performance I saw and seemed almost distracted until about the middle of the show. Georgia Engels (Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore show) pretty much played herself, which was funny but for some reason, her vodka spraying schtick, which was repeated several times, was hilarious. This show is just plain fun and how refreshing to sit back and just have a good time. I loved it and would definitely go again!
