Would not recommend Review by: txtobroadway, Jun 1, 2008 |
| VERY disappointed. I had heard it was really funny, but I laughed MAYBE 4 times. It was very quirky, no plot, very unsophisticated humor. Overall, I was bored. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but I wouldn't recommend it. |

Best show I've seen in a VERY long time! Review by: Lisa - NC, Feb 26, 2008 |
| I had to see this show 3 times for my work - It was the best 3 nights I've had at the theater in a VERY long time. The plot was original, the jokes were hilarious, the timing was impeccable. I just can't say enough about this. Was a little wary about going since some reviews were bad, but those people must have a 3 second attention span to not be able to follow the plot. My husband, who only tolerates theater, said it was by far the best ... read more play he'd seen. Georgia Engel was perfect! But man in the chair was sensational. This was just a funny, funny plot. Go - you'll enjoy an evening at the theater. |

SEE THIS BEFORE YOU MISS YOUR CHANCE Review by: kernel, Dec 20, 2007 |
| I can't understand how how a show which is truly original that kept me smiling throughout is closing two months ahead of schedule. What has always hurt this show is its title-my brother said that when the traveling company played in Cincinnati--which usually has few vacant seats-there were many to be had. An usher confided that the title was confusing. My brother and his wife thought it was the best play they've seen there. I hope to go back ... read more to Broadway to catch this wonderful show before it closes on 12/30. |

IT'S SAD WHEN A FANTASTIC MUSICAL LEAVES US Review by: Beth M, Dec 20, 2007 |
A TRIBUTE TO THE DROWSY CHAPERONE: “HOW WE’RE GONNA MISS YOU!”
By Beth Mandelbaum
I read with genuine sadness last evening about the closing of The Drowsy Chaperone on December 30th. While I was aware that it wasn’t doing well at the box office, somehow I never expected this musical, which is one of my favorites of the past several seasons, would so suddenly leave us, as it is such a wonderful tribute to the love of musical ... read more theater.
I saw Drowsy three times and was planning to see it again. The first time was an early preview, at which I fell head over heels in love with this enchanting and extremely clever musical, with its absolutely fabulous original cast. I saw it for a second time with my husband about two months later, and not only did I love it just as much as my first visit, but had the great pleasure of seeing how much joy Drowsy offered him. I saw it one additional time, this past April, with an extremely fine replacement cast that included Janine Lamina, Jo Anne Worley and John Glover. I still loved it. And every time I left the theater, I felt on high!
As someone passionate about musical theater (and so many of us are!), I found this show to be an inspiring and ingenious tribute to the power of musical theater to lift and transform the spirits of anyone who feels “blue,” as does our Man In Chair, and for so many others who have seen this musical.
I found Drowsy to have a brilliant concept, a musical within a musical that transports a musical theater aficionado (our Man In Chair) away from his sadness as he listens to the “record” (“yes record”!) of this fictional 1928 show, as the cast comes to life in his apartment. He is transformed into a man who experiences enormous enthusiasm and true joy. (How often have I wished for something like this to happen to me?) While I realize that the songs don’t always seem to stand on their own, I found them to be absolutely delightful in the context of the show.
I remember the night that Jersey Boys, of course also an excellent and highly deserving musical, won the Tony for Best Musical over my beloved Drowsy. While I was fairly well prepared for this to happen, I was totally thrilled when Drowsy won Tonys for Best Book and Best Score of a musical and to see the amazing Beth Leavel win in the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical category.
And I still ponder why it is that a musical that wins Best Book and Best Score is not the Best Musical!!!

A Must See! Review by: , Nov 5, 2007 |
| This show was so original and different than all other broadway shows. Bob Saget as the man in the chair was so funny. He did a great job interacting with the audience. I laughed so hard I cried. Very enjoyable and cute. Go see it. |

whatever happened to art in musicals. Review by: Erudite, Oct 28, 2007 |
trite. tired performances from all but two of the original cast. clever original concept taken, unfortunately, to the point of vaudeville the worst of what broadway has become: a commercial vehicle for pap. but then it's a whole lot better than andrew lloyd webber or any disney show that wasnt directed by julie taymor.

I LOVED IT!! Review by: Vinnie, Oct 8, 2007 |
| I loved every single second of this show. The "man in chair" was delightful. I greatly appreciated the humor throughout the production, especially, the "mistake" when the main in chair went to the bathroom. Hilarious! I saw this on October 6, 2007. Georgia Engle was out and JoAnne Worley was in. I love her! She was brilliant. This wom best musical for a reason. It's wonderful. Those that say otherwise are hard to please and I'm ... read more sure would find fault with anything. |

You really want to be drowsy- buy a ticket! A total mess. Review by: JIMMY, Sep 13, 2007 |
| I hated this show! If your someone who likes those corny musicals this is for you. I usually cab appreciate the talent and dancing in an "old time" musical but this time I was bored. There was no real dancing to speak of and the only real talent I saw was that of the Chaperone herself. The biggest laugh came from a "casanova" type character with a thick Spanish accent who lowers his voice a couple octaves when he says his name. It was ... read more real amateur humor. The crowd is more seniors and tourists. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I got these at a discount and still felt ripped off. BAD...BAD.....BAD!! |

Exactly what I go theater for - the perfect show! Review by: SheShe, Sep 9, 2007 |
| I have seen The Drowsy Chaperone twice because I had to bring other people to see it. It is EXACTLY what I go to theater for. Great characters, great show numbers, music, dancing, hysterically funny (we were crying we laughed so hard). I have the soundtrack memorized. I LOVE this show. If you only see one show in your life, this is the one to see. I have told everyone I know they MUST see this show. |

An amazing Feel-Good musical Review by: broadwaywiz92PS, Aug 25, 2007 |
| This show was such an amazing feel-good musical. I came out of the theater feeling so happy that i saw it. Beth Leavel(sp?) stole the show (no wonder she won the Tony Award)! I was also very pleasantly suprised with John Glover's performance. He played 'the man in the chair' perfectly. If your looking for a very funny musical that makes you feel good, run to get tickets to see the Drowsey Chaperone!!!!!!!!! |

Not recommended, Do not waste your money! Review by: Bella's Aunt, Aug 20, 2007 |
| This was a terrible show. The plot was awful. There was three storylines going on and all of them were stupid. There was about a ten minute section about monkeys that had nothing to do with any of the plots! The narrator, the 'man in chair' was extremely annoying. There is no intermission to this show, just a ten minute section with the man in chair on the stage eating a power bar. That is all he does for ten minutes! I was very disappointed in ... read more this play and would not recommend it to anyone. |

Great Actors, Absolutely Horrible show. Couldnt pay me to see it again. Review by: Angelica64, Aug 3, 2007 |
| This was the worst play i have ever seen.....I fought falling asleep the whole entire time and couldnt wait to get out of there! There were a couple humorous parts here and there, but for the most part, it was sooooooooo weird and hard to follow. I do not recommend you wasting any money on this show. So dissapointed!!! |
