| this was the most wonderful thanksgiving present to myself and my family, celie we loved you and we (3 men ,2women) were all in tears at the end. the cast was ultra talented and if you miss this show you will have missed the ability to know and feel true love. |

I saw it around five months ago, and I feel its riding on Oprah's name.
It lacked the warmth of the book, the music didn't do it for me, only the last song was good.
I didn't care for it, and don't recommend.
There's so many other great shows on Broadway.

| The show is a revival meeting, especially in its closing number that ends with an "amen." LaChanze is a talented vocalist and works hard as an actress, as do many of the cast members, but Walker's novel and the film version are both vastly superior. |

Beautiful musical.
The first act drags a bit but the second half is so touching--I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. And their encore had the whole audience on their feet clapping and singing along. |

| The show was excellent. Being a fan of the book and movie, I was a little leary of seeing it as a musical. I was concerned about how they could portray all of the different scenes one stage. We were all (10 of us) presently surprised at how well they pulled it off. We all thought the show was incredible. We plan to see it again and take our daughters. |

| Seen on 8/5/06. The muscial has not one great song. The music from the movie was outstanding, I can sing the songs almost verbatim off of the top of my head and the music in the muscial left me wanting more. The acting was fine, the only character that really made a great impression was "Sofia". She showed up and showed out and the other characters were really over shadowed by her performance. I always wanted her in the scene to keep my ... read more interest, I actually almost fell a sleep a couple of times. Sad seeing how she wasnt the main character she even had the biggest applause in the theater at hte end. I think it fell short. Not as intersting as the book nor the movie. |

| I saw this Production in July. It was truly awesome!!! Rode all the way from NC on a bus, and would do it again if I got the chance. The acting, the singing, the dancing, everything and everyone was just awesome!!! Would love to share this experience with my sister and nieces. |

| The show was by far one of the most amazing shows I have seen in a long time. It conveyed an honest story, had a great message, and was so much more moving by means of it simply being performed live in front of you. By the end of the show, I am certain there was not one dry eye in the house. The production moves you in a way that is particularly unique and is something that only theatre can deliver. | I saw the show for the first time with my teenage daughter and was so amazed at the talent and music, I bought the cast recording then went back a second time with my mom. | The musical is basically a synopsis of the book/movie. If you're expecting to see the book/movie done as a musical you may be disappointed. Most of the songs had good energy. I was disappointed with the actress playing Shug. Shug is supposed to be bigger than life. This was not conveyed by the actress. |

| I have seen dozens of shows and prefer musicals. I found "The Color Purple" delightful. I saw it with a diverse group of friends (a last minute outing)who all enjoyed it as much or more than most we have seen of late. True, I am a sucker for gospel...but it is hard for anyone to resist that energy. By the standing ovations given and the shouts of joy from the house, I assume that the audience enjoyed it as well.
