| Know what you are getting into. The show is from the creators of South Park and the language is explicit and vulgar. The cursing is prolific and the topics include rape, incest, genital mutilation, torture, and murder.Sexual paraphernalia is displayed. If you are easily offended and want things politically correct, don't go.The show is funny and there are plenty of outrageous laughs. You don't have to go immediately to see this show. It is not ... read more the best show I've ever seen. I would rather have waited awhile and seen the show on discount than paid full price for it. |

A SUCKER NO MORE! Review by: Sam Sucker, Jan 26, 2013 |
| Run, don't walk in the OTHER direction from this offensive and not very funny musical. I paid $175 each for two tickets and feel utterly had that I was taken in by the sophisticated marketing campaign. Vulgarity and profanity can play a role in advancing reasonable themes but here it was gratuitous and unwelcome. While the South Park folks offend across the board and no on is generally spared, here the racist depictions of African village ... read more dwellers and comical references to horrific themes of female genital mutilation and infant rape are outrageous. It's been just hours since viewing this vile show and I've only gotten madder at myself that I didn't do my homework. Don't fall for this sham unless you're given tickets or are paid to go! |

Over rated but entertaining Review by: musicman, Dec 22, 2012 |
| My wife and I were very much looking forward to this show, given the reviews and its popularity. I thought it was amusing but certainly not worthy of the acclaim it has received from the critics. The music is mostly mediocre, though some of the lyrics are fun. The humor, as some other reviews have pointed out, is crude and vulgar; some of it works and some does not. The performances were the best thing about the show. Overall, it is ... read more an enjoyable evening but nothing very special and certainly not the best musical of the century, as one critic put it. |

Offensive Trash-Book of Mormon Review by: kd, Dec 17, 2012 |
| I wish I had known more about the play before standing in line for two hours and paying $310 for two tickets. As a Christian and not of the Mormom faith, I was highly offended by the filthy language underlying racism and most of all the sacrilegious aspect of the play. To be fair there were a few light moments but on the whole it was TRASH. I will never go to another play again without knowing ahead of time what to expect. I'm angry that I ... read more wasted my last afternoon in NYC because I was not forewarned. I am angry that I was naive enough to think that if were such a popular play that it would be entertaining. I also saw Wicked while in NYC. I left that play feeling good. After seeing The Book of Mormom I felt like I needed to beg God's mercy for sitting through the entire performance. If you are entertained by lyrics cursing God using the most vile language with middle finger extended upward toward heaven, by all means go and waste your time and money. If you find the words "I've got maggots in my scrotum" entertaining and references in a musical to African men raping babies to cure their AIDS and African women having genital mutilation go and enjoy yourself. But now you have been forewarded. |

Highly Enjoyable Review by: TE451, Nov 11, 2012 |
I really enjoyed this show. Despite the blanket statement one poster made about "most people over 45 will not enjoy this show", I am in my 50s and thought it was great. Was it the best musical I ever saw? Certainly not, but it is highly entertaining, the musical numbers were surprisingly tuneful, the choreography was inventive, and the show was highly amusing. What more could you want? It's absurd that people go to a show written by ... read more "South Park" creators, and then complain about the language. You know what to expect, so don't be surprised when you get it. Actually, I got a lot more than I expected from this show-I wouldn't call it "the best musical of the century", as the NY Times did, but you will have a great time. |

I'm sad for Broadway Review by: mooshky, Oct 29, 2012 |
| Really disappointing. Went with my grown daughter and her friends and we were all shocked by the vulgarity of it. Bad words are one thing, but they definitely crossed the entertainment line. What a waste of money. |

Poorly Designed Slapstick Review by: Fail., Jun 6, 2012 |
| I expect a broadway show to transport me and move me emotionally. While the on-stage talent is fine, they dont get much to work with. Crass, vulgar dialogue can be funny when used as an accent, but here, the ongoing repetition just comes across as poorly thought out. And I cant remember the last show I saw that plays out almost entirely on a single set (there is a single major set change early in the first act). By the way,... read more, the theatre seating is cramped with insufficient restroom facilities. Save your money. This show is poorly designed slapstick at best. |

Hilarious, if you enjoy dark humor. Review by: Ree, May 6, 2012 |
| Hysterical!!!! If you like dark humor. I found it to be the funniest show on Broadway (being a 34 yr old female)!!! Depicts the tragedies in Uganda and completely throws it in your face in a humorous manner. There were times when I did feel bad thinking of what goes on... (female circumcision, rape, the aids epidemic, etc.), but what can we expect from the makers of south park. I would say most people over 45 would probably not enjoy this show.... read more. But for those of you who like dark humor (south park, for example)... you will love it!!!! |

Extremely disappointing! Review by: theatre patron, Apr 23, 2012 |
| My wife and I were both extremely disappointed in seeing this show. Book of Mormons is an over hyped, over priced show that is quick to use disparaging and offensive dialogue, and, in doing so, was not even funny (personally, we were not offended by the language, however, it was obvious that others in the audience near us were). Furthermore, the musical numbers left a lot to be desired. In NYC, where we undoubtedly have the best, and ... read more most expansive theatre in the world you would be wise to think twice before purchasing tickets to this show, especially when there are so many high quality shows to choose from, whether they be musicals, comedies, or drama! |

Booked out for a reason... Review by: BlondonBroadway, Mar 10, 2012 |
| Sinks its hooks in right from the opening number, featuring irresistible tunes, wonderful characters, a well crafted plot and slick design. This is easily the funniest new musical since Avenue Q. Well worth the months-long wait for tickets. Oh, and it's joyfully offensive on all fronts - but you're prepared for this already, aren't you? |

Excellent Review by: MH75, Mar 9, 2012 |
Yes it is smutty, yes it is crass, and yes it does make fun about Mormons and Africans, but it is more then that. The truth is, it pokes fun at everyone. Beautifully performed by an amazingly talented cast, the dance scenes were wonderful, and the vocals were fantastic. I did not know much about the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints other then they go door knocking, that being missionaries is a major part of their faith,... read more, and they used to do multiple marriages. Prior to seeing the show, I read up on the background of that Church, so I could put things into some context. The number of strange references were quite interesting and shows a lot of research went into the story. Like most episodes of South Park, there is a message or two in it, not leaving your buddy and helping people, as that is what you want to do, not expected to. mm |

Run, don't walk to get your tickets! Review by: Wadsworth, Feb 20, 2012 |
The show is AMAZINGLY funny! The ensemble is terrific. Yes, there is a great deal of foul language, perhaps a little too much. I never thought I'd laugh about making fun of one's religion, but this is done with the perfect touch. I think Morman he-double hockey sticks is very similar to Catholic he-double hockey sticks! I usually never pay full price for Broadway tickets; Book of Morman was well worth every penney we paid! I'd like to see it ... read more again, as I'm sure I missed a few lines, as we were laughing so much : ) |

Don't open this Book of Mormon Review by: Leawoodcats, Jan 1, 2012 |
Very disappointing show! Such hype, but this does NOT deliver. Crass humor, that will probably most greatly appeal to males under 30! Save your money and see something more entertaining. Dancing and sets were amateurish at best, and story ridiculous. Humor at the expense of anyone's religion has no place on Broadway, or anywhere. Was so glad that I purchased tickets before the prices were jacked up! |
