| Obviously, most people came to see the show for Kristin Chenoweth. I did, and I loved the show. I felt that each act was different, but yet they all connected with the same male/female relationship theme. Some parts might have gotten a little boring as in the script, but I feel the actors and singing made up for it. Great show, and absolutely worth seeing. |

If you can get past the tourists chattering through one of the classic overtures of our generation, you're in for a delicious treat.
THE APPLE TREE was more of a piece for Barbara Harris to show off her acting chops in it's initial run. So right from the get go, leading lady Kristin Chenoweth had her work cut out for her. It's no wonder they moved this from Encores! upon seeing her presentation, however. She deliver ... read more delciously under the wake of a very shoddy set. Even our leading man Brian D'acry James shines throughout!
Squeeze yourself into the wooden seats and tell those tourists to hurry up and unwrap that brownie next to you, and you're sure to take a bite out of this apple!
A sexy fun romp that proves to us all that maybe it's not so bad to walk under ladders after all? |

| I loved this performance, though I did feel the set was lacking, and the script wasn't that strong, but all of that was made up by the AMAZING power of Kristin Chenoweth and company. (p.s. go on the day of the performance and buy mid-mezzanine seats for 26.25, a big saving for a small theater!) |

I wish this show's material and production values were as sterling as the cast. And I'm not just referring to the ultra-talented Kristin Chenoweth, who's fast becoming a Broadway legend; her co-stars more than hold their own in terms of entertaining an audience, despite the material being as thin as a sheet of paper.
Still, you would think that at Broadway prices, someone would have a more creative idea than that of a virtual bare stage ... read more being the setting for the Garden of Eden in this show's first sketch, "The Diary of Adam and Eve". The production values improve in the next two sketches but not by much. The show would have been better served if it had opened at an Off-Broadway theater.
As for the material, the third skit, the Cinderella-like "Passionella", a satire on celebrity, best showcases the comedic and singing talents of Chenoweth & Company.
The show is still worth seeing for the performances, but if you decide to go, I recommend doing so at discount prices. |

On a whim I decided to buy tickets to see The Apple Tree because the chance to see Kristin Chenoweth onstage is something you do not easily pass up. I had no idea what I was in store for. As usual she was a delight to watch. You can't help smiling at her Eve. Watching Adam and Eve grow together to her eventual "What Makes Me Love Him" ballad which was one of the most emotional moments I have ever experienced in a Broadway theatre. I have ... read more seen almost everything else on Broadway right now...and this was the biggest suprise. I cried because I witnessed perfection on stage.
The story is old fashioned...but I mean folks...part of it is based on the bible...cant get more old then that. But the stories are still funny and the music entertaining. The dancers were wonderful though it was hard to even pay attention to them with such great performers in the leads. It isn't the most well known show in the world and that is why it is so charming.
Oooo and look forward to the third act song "Gorgeous" hilarious and you will be singing it all night. |

| Coming from someone who has grown up on the theatre and has seen just about everything there is to see, I will admit that the show is not Spectacular, but I strongly disagree with anyone who has posted a review which attacks the show as poorly written and dated. The plot is quite charming and you leave the theater feeling good. The cast as a whole was excellent and did as well as possible with the material. Kristin, as I'm sure I dont have ... read more to say, was fabulous, and the other 2 male leade were both spectacular. If you have the opportunity to see this show, I would strongly advise going. It is very funny and entertainging, and the music is quite catchy. The theatre is large, but you do not need front row seats to enjoy this show. |

| Very nice show. Worth seeing for Kristin alone. I might point out that Ben Brantley's New York Times review - available online - was very favorable and spot-on. He praised Kristin, as well as the two male leads; while he acknowledged that this is not the best show of all time, it is definitely worth seeing. | They did a perfect job with this charming show. Every critic gave Kristin Chenoweth rave reviews, so why do the people posting negative reviews on this site think they know more than every professional theater critic in New York? The woman is amazing. She is absolutely incredible and you HAVE to see her in this show!! I highly recommend it. KIRSTEN CHENOWITH certainly has charm, but charm can only go so far when the material falls short; as it does in THE APPLE TREE.
This skimpy production by RTC has a few good laughs; FEW is the word to remember; and the music is underpar and instantly forgettable. Although this show is neither painfully bad nor offensive, neither is it particularly entertaining or engaging. The Adam and Eve Skit has the most laughs (still few) but gains ... read more nothing by having all three characters in contemporary costume and limiting the scenery to two ladders leaning together. The Middle Ages Skit is lame and boring' but the 1960's Skit deserves a specific jibe or two. Marilyn Monroe type stars and motorcycle thugs as heros was strictly 1953-era; while the 1960's were the age of drug abuse and not taking baths. It doesn't matter really. If you have $111.25 and feel like tossing it away on a mediocre show, be my guest. But there are over a dozen Broadway musicals more deserving of your attention. |

| The first act of The Apple Tree was so entertaining, with Kristen Chenoweth being beyond fabulous, fantastic, funny, fresh, frolicking and flirty, that it is hard to say if the 2nd and 3rd acts paled by comparison or by an absolute standard of mediocrity. Miss Chenoweth shows her talents in all three acts; however, the material is weak. Go for the first act, very worthwhile; and then go to dinner. |

| I agree with Leen. This is not a show on which to spend several hundred dollars. It is badly conceived and more badly directed. The stars try valiently, but the production has about as much pizzazz as the wretched Roundabout revival of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE. | This show is so unique! The audience was laughing so hard through the whole thing (except of course the end of Act 1, because it's so sweet and touching.). You have got to see this show! I've already seen it three times and it's only been open for a few weeks. There were a bunch of people there who had already seen it and came back to see it again. Kristin Chenoweth was awesome! Lovely show. For those of you who have not seen Kristin Chenoweth, I highly recommend that you rush to The Apple Tree. The rest of the cast did an admirable job, too. While not my favorite show of all time, a nice change of pace, and definitely welcome in this era of mass-market musicals.
Note that there is no orchestra pit - the musicians sit in the boxes, above either side of the stage - so theatergoers sitting in the orchestra ... read more will be right up front (and very close to Kristin on a couple of occasions).
This show is in a limited run - through March, I believe - and I would recommend it to round out any Broadway fan's (or Kristin fan's) arsenal. |

We saw the original run of "The Apple Tree" nearly 40 years ago with two of our favorite people: Alan Alda and Barbara Harris, especially Harris whose work we were familiar with when she was a member of the Second City troupe. Kristin Chenoweth come close to challenging our fond memory of Harris through her cute and sassy ways, her fine voice and stage presence. We rate this fun revival 3.5 stars with Chenoweth providing 2.5 of the stars and ... read more Brian d'Arcy James and Marc Kudisch kicking in half a star each. James sings well and Kudisch (from the "Assassins" cast) adds large slices of choice ham. One gag snakes it way through all three one-act plays -- in this case, proving what "Brown" can do for you. The Adam and Eve segment rings out with good laughs while the lady and the tiger and Passonella sparkle while you watch but not for the long term. A fun show overall. A footnote: We didn't remember Passonnella was pilfered by Carol Burnett ("I Wanna Be a Movie Star") and it became one of her many classic schticks.
