Awesome show - I would definitely see it again! Review by: arikae, Apr 30, 2007 |
| From the moment the show opened, I was hooked. The music is upbeat and heartfelt and thoroughly enjoyable. The actors voices were excellent. I had a great time! Right now I'm trying to convince a friend to go see it with me again! Don't listen to those bad reviews - they must be miserable people in real life. |

Don't waste your money Review by: kpg, Apr 23, 2007 |
The worse show i have ever seen. community theater productions are better produced! The set was mostly green streamers with cubby holes for swinging apes. Dialogue was punctuated by grunting! No memorable music. Boring ape choreography. Don't waste your money. |

tarzan is the best Review by: nat101, Apr 21, 2007 |
WOW!!! TARZAN WAS AMAZING. THE OPENING WAS INCREDIBLE. A SHIPWRECK LEAVES A MAN AND A WOMAN WITH A BABY IN THE JUNGLE. THEY BUILD A TREE HOUSE AND THEY LIVE THERE, UNTIL THE LEOPARD COMES AND KILLS THEM. THE CHILD IS THE ONLY ONE LEFT. A MONKEY NAMED kALA GOES UP TO THE TREE HOUSE AND FINDS THE BABY IN A TRUNK. SHE TAKES HIM OUT AND DECIDES TO CARE FOR HIM BECAUSE SHE KNOWS THAT THE BABY WONT SURVIVE ON ITS OWN. SHE TAKES HIM AND CALLS HIM ... read more TARZAN. SHE DECIDES TO CARE FOR HIM DESPITE HER HUSBANDS, (KERCHAK)REFUSAL TO CARE FOR AN ORPHAN. KALA SHOWS A LOT OF TENDER, LOVE, AND CARE FOR TARZAN. TARZAN IS SEEN AS A THREAT TO KERCHAK. TARZAN HAS ONE FRIEND NAMED TERK, WHOM KERCHAK DOESNT WANT HIM TO HANG OUT WITH. WHEN TARZAN FINDS A SPEAR IN THE TREES, KERCHAK SEES HIM USING IT TO GET FRUIT AND HE BANS TARZAN FROM COMING CLOSE TO THE TRIBE. KALA LOVES TARZAN AND SHE FOLLOWS HIM AND DECIDES TO LIVE WITH HIM AWAY FROM THE TRIBE. TARZAN DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY KERCHAK IS SEEING HIM AS A THREAT BECAUSE TARZAN KNOWS THAT HE WONT HURT THE ONES THAT HE LOVES. TARZAN BELIEVES THAT HE IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS, BUT KALA ASSURES HIM THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY LOOK DIFFERENT THEY ARE ALL THE SAME INSIDE. YEARS PASS AND TARZAN GROWS UP. KALA WANTS KERTCHAK TO ACCEPT THE GROWN UP TARZAN BUT KERCHAK IS STUBBURN AND WONT LET HIM. A GROUP OF ENGLISH PAOPLE COME TO INVESTIGATE THE JUNGLE AND ONE OF THEM WAS JANE PORTER. JANE GOES INTO THE JUNGLE AND SEES ALL THESE THINGS THAT SHE NEVER SAW. THEN SHE SEES A WILD MAN, AS SHE CALLS HIM, FLYING THROUGHT THE TREES AND LANDING IN FRONT OF HER. HE INVESTIGATES HER, AND THEY INTRODUCE THEMSELVES. THEY FALL IN LOVE WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR JANE TO LEAVE BACK TO ENGLAND SHE ASKS TARZAN TO GO WITH HER, BUT TARZAN BELIEVES THAT ANYTHING SHE EVER WANTED IS HERE IN THE JUNGLE. SHE AGREES WITH HIM AND SHE STAYS IN THE JUNGLE WITH HIM FOREVER. JOSH STRICKLAND PLAYED THE PART OF TARZAN. HIS VOICE WAS AMAZING. HIS VOICE WAS SO STRONG, SO POWERFUL, SO FULL OF ENERGY. HIS VOICE WAS DEEP MAKING YOU WANT TO HEAR IT ALL THE TIME. HE PLAYED TARZAN INCREDIBLY. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW ANYONE COULD MAKE SUCH A WONDERFUL PLAY AS TARZAN. THIS MUSICAL WAS INCREDIBLE. THE COREOGRAPHY, THE MUSIC, THE ACTORS, AND THE ACTRESSES WERE AMAZING AND I COULN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS SEEING. THE MUSICAL WAS SO GOOD THAT WHEN I WALKED OUT I WAS SPEECHLESS. I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO GO SEE IT AGAIN. |

Good for kids, but there's many better shows otherwise Review by: Brian, Mar 29, 2007 |
I saw the show last night for my daughter's 8th birthday, along my wife and 11 year old son. That I was able the day prior to purchase 3rd row center Mezzanine tickets at a discount said much about how the show is faring.
The show delighted my daughter (that was the point, after all, so it's hard to be too negative) and my wife (who rated it ahead of "Beauty," though I strongly disagree). My son enjoyed it, but his attention seemed to ... read more wane a bit.
I agree with what seem to be common points in reviews: the actors have great voices, though the material they get to work with is mediocre; there is no strong 'production number' to really wow you; the script is bland; the show often seems more acrobatics show than musical theater; and the opening scene, while nicely done, ends up being the dramatic high point.
The show will appeal to first-time broadway goers simply due to the visual effects, and to families with younger children because of all the color and movement. The Mezzanine is definitely the first choice for seats, as so much of the action takes place in the air.

Greatly Suprised!! Review by: law1, Mar 26, 2007 |
| I recently saw this show with my fiancee, mom and sister. I must admit, I was a little worried due to some of the negative review. I was actually very happy with it. We had a wonderful time. We were pleasantly suprised. Even my mom loved it and she is very picky. I would really recommend it to everyone. |

Drama Teacher' s Review Review by: Drama Teacher, Mar 25, 2007 |
| The opening scene is worth the price of the ticket. As a Drama teacher it blew me away. It only got better. The new songs were great. Tarzan (Josh) & Jane (Jenn) had fantastic voices. It is a great show for the entire family. |

Tarzan Rocks! Not! Review by: interterra, Mar 21, 2007 |
| Saw Tarzan last weekend, unfourtunately a day after Mary Poppins. The show is dissapointing. The set is tedious, I'm sure you can get more creative with a jungle background. The major players are good, but Clayton was a dissapointment. This is based on the Disney movie, after all, and I don't remember Clayton being from Alabama. I didn't get that uplifting feeling one gets with Lion King or Mary Poppins, see those instead. |

Phil Collins should be ashamed. Songs are awful, not casts fault, they work with what they are given. Review by: Disney Fanatic/Broadway Vet, Mar 17, 2007 |
I just saw Tarzan today and have to say I was greatly disappointed. I consider my self a Broadway veteran and a Disney Fanatic. I saw both Beauty and the Beast and Lion King and LOVED both. I found this show to be so so. The effects were nice to look at and the swinging around was great for the first 20 minutes and then nothing happens. Tarzan and Jane sing some mediocre songs that Phil Collins should be ashamed of while monkeys swing around ... read more in the bakground. I think the main problem here was with the songs and the story. Not much happens and I found myself praying fo a "You'll be in my heart" reprise to save me from the awful songs added in for the stage performance.
None of my disappointment comes form the cast. They sang what they were given phenomenally. The effects were very good (especially the opening)and Josh Strickland was awesome and moved so well on stage. It doesn't hurt that he is gorgeous and spends the time he is on stage running around in a loincloth. but even his hot bod can't distract you from the awful new songs.
I say skip it. see Lion King, Beauty and the Beast (before it closes in July), or Mary Poppins if you are looking for a family Disney production. Here's hoping that when The Little Mermaid opens in Dec. 07 I can say better things. |

Review by: Andy, Mar 13, 2007 |
| I am 22 years old and my mother is 51, and we both spent a weekend in N.Y. to watch some musicals. We had heard up and down rumors about Tarzan. We were both shocked when it was intermission and we were REALLY enjoying ourselves. Is it my all time favorite? No? Was it aweosome and VERY entertaining, heck yeah! The songs were very good and the stage was great. We had second row orchestra and thought it was aweosome to have the actors ... read more flying over us. Other might hate this performance, but we loved it and I give it an A!! |

You . . . Tarzan. Me . . . . Bored!! Review by: Racster, Mar 11, 2007 |
Just saw this show on Thursday night.
I will say, it was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Ever! I've probably seen 60-70 shows on Broadway, and THIS was one of the WORST.
Spectacular? Maybe. But, for my money, seeing a bunch of actors swinging back and forth on bungee cords OVER and OVER does not cut it. Also, (and maybe it's just me, but) I like to actually see the person who is singing. Tarzan directors seem to think that ... read more having someone onstage singing a song will just take away from the SWINGING. So, for a number of the songs, the singers are offstage. They may as well just play the CD.
There was no point to this show, and the actors were down right boring. When we did get to hear a few of the leads sing, I will admit that the voices were top flight. But unfortunately, that opportunity was came far too infrequently.
Sorry. This show just missed all marks for me. I would not recommend it to anyone -- except the directors and creatives behind it. They DESERVE to have to sit through it. |

Great Show! Review by: person, Mar 5, 2007 |
| To the last reviewer. I am 11, and have seen many more than 1 broadway show, and this was excellent. The actors and actoresses were amazing. Notably Terk,(Chestor Gregory 3), Tarzan,(Josh Strickland), Jane(Jenn Gambatese), and the understudy for Kala (Andrea Dora). Also I noticed many people say the set didnt change and was green. Well, the jungle is green, and almost the entire story takes place in the jungle. Son of Man and Who better than ... read more Me were upbeat, and breathtaking, and you'll be in my heart was incredibly touching, and moving. The show was grreat, the coreography was great, and the acting was excellent. For me it is only 2nd to Wicked, and beats out Hairspray. |

The truth of the matter is this show is horrible Review by: DON'T GO..., Mar 4, 2007 |
| I just can't believe any one would love this show. I can almost bet this must be there first show they have ever seen on broadway. This show is NOT GOOD at all. There is nothing exciting or entertaining about it. It is soooo mean to write reviews that are misleading to people that want to see a good show. This show is not good. It is not entertaining. It is not worth the money. It is terribly boring. The people that categorize this ... read more as entertaining and the best should -- go see something worth it like B&T BB, Lion King, or Hairspray. I think once they do that they will realize their poor judgement. Please, if you earn your money, why throw it away on pure rubbish........And for the people that ask, what do you expect? Not to fall asleep is what I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
