Give this a try: funny, enjoyable show Review by: IggyCat, Mar 22, 2010 |
| Okay, admittedly, this is a bit of an acquired taste. Tennessee Williams, this ain't. But, if you enjoy good comedy and improv, and enjoy the idea of puppets acting out adult scenes (a lot Avenue Q), I would recommend giving this show a try. The basic idea is that a small team of puppeteers act out skits with their puppets based on improv ideas suggested by an MC after soliciting input from the audience. The audience participation ... read more is pretty innocuous, although a couple people were brought onto stage; if you don't like that, just go with a seat on the mezzanine. We were in the first row of the mezzanine and loved looking out over the show without fear of being dragged onstage. The basic setup is quite innovative: There is a camera pointed at the stage, and the puppets act to the camera, with two large-screen movie screens just above the stage. So, you can watch the puppeteers and then switch your gaze to the movie screens, where you can see the puppets "acting" as if in a movie. We liked how this worked. The comedy itself is hit or miss, just like you'd find at any improv event. Sometimes the skits really hit the mark, and sometimes they fall flat. I suspect the cast will refine their talents as the shows proceed, and overall we laughed enough and enjoyed the puppets enough to have a really good time. |
