Spider man is Spider Dont...See You In Vegas !!! Review by: Javy, Jun 26, 2011 |
So I finally Got to see only the Preview Show of the Many Previews shows. SO this change , has More of the Green Goblin and less of Arachine. The Flying Acrobats is what you will find fascinating for the First Act , AND The High Second Act, but as for the Storyline, Been There ...Done That. You have seen the cartoons, The Movie version. It did not need to dwell on that for Half of the Show ( First Act) . The Music was at times was ... read more very drool, and you can tell a Broadway Standards to the riff and rhythms of Bono , the Edge and U2. So I was thinking , Am I seeing a Musical Show, A Vegas Act, or a mini Rock Concert ? That is were your going to be less excited. With all the Money the Investors put in, I see it going to Vegas, If you want to see acrobats and wiring music, Go See Circus del Soliel. They are professionally done and " Get It " !! But for the Tourist, who go to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, Spider Man is a " To - Do List" that they can scratch out on there Visitor's list. |

Forget ... Turn Off the Dark ... it should be called ... Turn Off the Marquee!! Review by: BHunter, Jun 7, 2011 |
I can't even imagine how horrible the original version was if what I saw last weekend is the "IMPROVED" version. Aside from very creative staging (stunts, etc) and maybe 3 songs (which were actually quite good), the rest of this show is a disaster. (Even some of the kids sitting near me in the theatre were bored or nodding off until the 'flying' happened.) The storyline has no heart, the dialogue is brutal, the acting painful, most of the songs ... read more just downright forgettable or pointless. I hope Broadway has learned a lesson in letting Julie Taymor take the reins and put this flop out there. She is great at puppetry, costuming and effects and THAT'S IT. This bug should be squashed by a big rolled up newspaper. Hopefully the reviews once it is 're-opened' will do just that. |

Great show for all ages! Review by: Dot, May 26, 2011 |
| Saw the show on 5/21/11. Loved it!! All the publicity the show received we decided to go and see for ourselves. Great show very entertaining for people of all ages. Loved the songs and how well put the play was. It kept with the cartoon feel plus added the broadway feel. See it for yourselves. |

Beyond Expectations ... Review by: Erly R, May 25, 2011 |
| I was searching for an "Intro to Musicals" for a 21-year-old first-time visitor to NYC and thought "Spider-Man" would at least keep him entertained. Instead, I discovered I thoroughly enjoyed one of the most unique musicals I've experienced in a long time. After seeing most of the 'top' shows on Broadway through the years, this proved to be a high-energy quick-paced spectacle with great music, cartoonish (yet high-tech)classy ... read more sets which leave you wondering what would come next. Well-cast with excellent talent, and strong vocals that complement a new yet slightly familiar storyline. Exhausting 'fight' and 'flight' sequences are impressive. Overall, one of the best investments on Broadway! Select seats mid theatre. |

WORST SHOW EVER Review by: BillyCrocker, May 18, 2011 |
| This is the WORST show I ever seen on Bway. I have seen almost every musical since the last 21 years ago and never saw such a terrible show. The worst book, music and acting you can ever find. It is like a Universal Studios stunt show, which usually last 20 minutes extended for 2 and a half hours. Definitely the most painful night in theatre, much worst than Tarzan, Shrek or Lord of The Rings, all of them pretty awful. AVOID IT. See War Horse or ... read more Anything Goes, those are fantastic shows. |

THE MUST SEE SHOW THIS SEASON !!!!! Review by: merlin53, Apr 18, 2011 |
| Saw the show on Saturday 4/16 with wife and friends celebrating our 28th Wedding Anniversary.INCREDIBLE SHOW !!!!! You have never seen anything like this on Broadway. A visual and aural treat. Stunning sets, special effects, aerial acrobatics, music, and production. You will get your monies worth and more. Everyone was abuzz leaving the theatre and wondering aloud what all the negative press and reviews were about. Although I can see ... read more it not being suited for all tastes, it certainly deserves a place on Broadway and should run for years. It's that good just as it is and really doesn't need a reworked second act. I did have my doubts after critic's reviews and a lot of negativity on this site, but I urge everyone who enjoys being wowed for their buck go see this show. A word to parents....this is not a show to bring young children to see. There are some scenes and effects that would be frightening for younger children and it's tough for six and seven year olds to sit still and reasonably quiet for almost 3 hours anyway. I recommend this for children ages 12( a mature 12 ! )and up. |

Don't Miss This One, People!! Review by: , Apr 11, 2011 |
| After seeing this show on Saturday afternoon, I turned right around and saw it again on Sunday and loved it even more. I hope they don't screw it up when they take it off-line for a re-work. I thought it was amazing just as it was. It's like being inside a comic book, or being on a 3-hour theme park ride. The music is somewhat spotty, but the songs that are good are really good and stick with you. It was so visually overwhelming that it took a ... read more second time to process it all. The story is rather weak, but just go and have fun!!!! |

Review by: AR, Feb 18, 2011 |
1) Broadway plays really have to start with a half way decent story, some memorable songs, decent actors, a great voice or two. Spiderman has none of the above. 2) Spiderman has some great sets and acrobatics. The Chrysler building set and some of over the audience acrobatics are very cool and effective. Everthing else is way too much. Its like a Broadway play with ADHD. 3) Sadly this is going to be the first Broadway play many ... read more children will see and it will warp their understanding of what a good Broadway play should be. Some specific ramblings: What dripped off of Green Goblin onto the audience on 2/17 evening? Was it sweat? Was it make-up?? With all the money spent on this production; do the 4 teens have to illuminate the audience by re-entering the stage (end of act 2) through a side orchestra door. Finally, (if this show continues) seats in the orchestra behind the overhang should be sold as partial view. |

Turn Off The Dark? Turn Off The Show! Review by: Scooter, Feb 1, 2011 |
I go to 2 shows a month. Here's the deal on Spiderman. Trust me. I have never experienced such a wide-ranging reaction. The staging and costumes are absolutely breathtaking. Truly genius. The aerial stunts were unusual and lots of fun to watch. The story, script and acting, unfortunately (and in my opinion) was dreadful. Poorly told, blandly acted and not well written, it was actually painful to watch and listen to.... read more. The music by Bono and Edge was unmemorable. I defy one audience member to remember even 1 tune, 5 minutes after the show. When most of the musical numbers ended, there was only silence or polite applause. So, there you have it. If you like costumes sets and special effects: this is a show worth seeing. If you want to experience a great plot, script, music and acting: stay very far away. Here's my Spidey-sense: take kids 10 and under, otherwise stay home and don't get caught in his web. |

Turn ON the Dark So We Can't See Your Hot Mess!! Review by: Shmawi, Jan 31, 2011 |
| I'm not hard to please, yet, I watched in fear of being thrown out for laughing too loudly at this train wreck of a show. Only a couple of good musical numbers and bad choreography. The "flying" gets old quickly. $65 million should have been spent on the storyline. Visuals don't make up for the badness!! |
