Awful Review by: JL3094761, Feb 3, 2012 |
| I must say, I checked the reviews on here before I got tickets to the show, and I usually disregard the crabby people who write bad reviews, but I wish I'd listened. Now I'm one of those crabby people who felt strong enough and mad enough about the $200 I wasted to write a bad review. This show is horrible. The flying trapeze and colorful set pieces could not save the horrid acting, and terrible off key music. The music is the glue ... read more that holds the whole show together, and this glue didn't stick ! Spend the large amount of money you pay to go to a broadway show on another show, believe me, it was terrible. |

***Seen it three times - from an experienced theater-goer!!*** Review by: EQ, Oct 14, 2011 |
| My husband loves U2 and so we have seen this show three times - once, when it first opened and it was okay (great production, mediocre storytelling). Second time, they were supposed to make a bunch of changes and it was about the same. For the third time, when even Michael Riedel could bring himself to say something positive, we decided to see it one last time... and it was MUCH improved and totally worth the ticket price. This show ... read more really has come a long way! I definitely recommend it! And all you theater-snobs, come on! Give credit where credit is due... this show entertains! You heart skips a beat when you see Spiderman fly! And there is almost a patriotic feeling you get watching the superhero triumph in the end! Loosen up and let your inner-kid come out. |

Fun for the easily-entertained. Review by: Justsomeguy, Sep 12, 2011 |
| I saw the show in previews shortly before it opened. To be Frank, it is a lousy piece of Theatre. All but two of the songs are absolutely awful. The book, although they didn't have much to work with after the Taymor confusion, lacks depth and gives the actors almost nothing to work with. That being said, the cast is splendid. They have created characters that can entertain and make the best out of their mediocre dialogue. Of course,... read more, the flying was absolutely breath-taking. The set design was absolutely brilliant, also. In addition, there is also a kind of magical feeling when watching a superhero come to life. These positive things were good enough in comparison to the bad to create an enjoyable experience for me. I will also admit that I am easily entertained. Although it is not a great piece of theatre, it's a fun show to watch. If you go in with zero expectations, and perhaps turn you brain off, there's a decent chance you will enjoy the show. Especially for children and adults who grew up loving Spider-Man. |

Waste of time and money Review by: Broadway Girl, Sep 6, 2011 |
| I have seen over 180 shows on broadway and this easily ranks in the bottom 3. Ugh - what a waste of time and money. The singing was barely average, the acting was horrible, the story line put me to sleep...ok, so there were a few fun flying acts, but I'd rather go to a circus. Don't waste your time - there are SO many better shows out there - go see anything else! |

GREAT SHOW!!!! Review by: Loves NYC, Aug 10, 2011 |
Took my seven year old son today and thought it was a terrific show for the most part. He thought it was amazing, I was very impressed as well and pleasantly surprised after all the negative earlier reviews. If you or your child is a Spiderman fan then you will love the show all the more. Even not being a Spiderman fan I thought the story was very good, the music for the most part good (a few too many love songs kept the show overly long) and ... read more the theatrics of flying and the acrobatics were fabulous. The lead who played Green Goblin was great as was Mathew JamesThomas as Peter Parker, he is new to Broadway and was just fabulous. I thought the understudy of Mary Jane (Kristen Faith Oei) was really the only weak link. Go see the show!!! |

Terrifc Family Fun Review by: Tracy Musante, Jul 22, 2011 |
| This is great family entertainment. The professional critics seem to be damning it with faint praise saying that it's for kids. Of course it is, and for adults wanting to be back into that childlike frame of mind for a couple hours. This is a comic book brought to exciting life with astounding visuals while amazingly keeping the comic book demeanor of it. You'll enjoy Act I which tells the original story, then Act II will knock your socks off.... read more. Even if you're not a kid, go and be a kid again just for the fun and thrill of it all. |

Spider man is Spider Dont...See You In Vegas !!! Review by: Javy, Jun 26, 2011 |
So I finally Got to see only the Preview Show of the Many Previews shows. SO this change , has More of the Green Goblin and less of Arachine. The Flying Acrobats is what you will find fascinating for the First Act , AND The High Second Act, but as for the Storyline, Been There ...Done That. You have seen the cartoons, The Movie version. It did not need to dwell on that for Half of the Show ( First Act) . The Music was at times was ... read more very drool, and you can tell a Broadway Standards to the riff and rhythms of Bono , the Edge and U2. So I was thinking , Am I seeing a Musical Show, A Vegas Act, or a mini Rock Concert ? That is were your going to be less excited. With all the Money the Investors put in, I see it going to Vegas, If you want to see acrobats and wiring music, Go See Circus del Soliel. They are professionally done and " Get It " !! But for the Tourist, who go to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, Spider Man is a " To - Do List" that they can scratch out on there Visitor's list. |

Forget ... Turn Off the Dark ... it should be called ... Turn Off the Marquee!! Review by: BHunter, Jun 7, 2011 |
I can't even imagine how horrible the original version was if what I saw last weekend is the "IMPROVED" version. Aside from very creative staging (stunts, etc) and maybe 3 songs (which were actually quite good), the rest of this show is a disaster. (Even some of the kids sitting near me in the theatre were bored or nodding off until the 'flying' happened.) The storyline has no heart, the dialogue is brutal, the acting painful, most of the songs ... read more just downright forgettable or pointless. I hope Broadway has learned a lesson in letting Julie Taymor take the reins and put this flop out there. She is great at puppetry, costuming and effects and THAT'S IT. This bug should be squashed by a big rolled up newspaper. Hopefully the reviews once it is 're-opened' will do just that. |
