Honestly, who every said this show is bad doesnt know theater. Im 17 years old and im a performing arts major, and this show had more talent then half of the shows i have gone to see on broadway. It was also way more entertaining then Phantom of the Operah and Wicked.
The music was written by William Finn, probably one of the most talented composers i have ever heard. His music has a soundhiem/hamerstein feel to it and it was FUNNY.... read more. Thats right.. i said it.. he wrote funny music! The story was about life, just like spring awakening is.. only from a different age groups perspective.. so next time your afraid of letting your ten year old hear about an erection, think twice about your parenting skills because your child is going to be the one who grows up shelterd in a bubble.
This musical is something i recomend everybody go and see. It has strong opinions and life lessons involved with it. Each child in the stories life has a message in it. Take Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre for example, shes a young girl dealing with the fact that she has two fathers instead of a mother and a father.. but guess what.. its out there in the world, please stop being so narrow minded because people like you are the reason for the war in iraq right now.
I suggest that every body go see the musical. its AMAZING, FUNNY, CHARMING, and an all around good idea! and the fact that they have audiance participation makes it that much better. |

| My twelve year old daughter and I went to see it in September. I didn't really expect much because we hadn't read any reviews or spoken with anyone who had seen it. We were so pleasantly surprised by the show that i purchased four tickets to see it again with my daughter and her friends. | A great show. In the first half I laughed out loud several times. The second half is not quite as funny, but has several touching moments. I went with three other 20-somethings, all guys, and they enjoyed it as well. One of the audience participants was a boy who got two words right that he wasn't supposed to. Huge applause for him. A very entertaining show. |

I had heard so many good things about this show - and unfortunately was very disapointed. The stage and production was on the level of a high school theatre class production. The story line is too simple and un sophisticated and the humor is just simply not there.
It would be an enjoyable evening for about $20 tickets, but not broadway-worthy, unfortunately. |

| This show was really fun.........had a new idea and great stage setting. It is one of the best shows Ive seen in a long time. All of the adult actors did a superb job of acting like their juvenile parts and there is also great crwod interaction. The story and music are funny and you wont be dissapointed in it. |

| Loved it...laughed more than any show ever. My 13 year old son and I saw this in early June. Can you spell FANTASTIC? We bought the CD and play it constantly in the car. The cast was fabulous, and the songs were hysterical. So many puns and one-liners. I want there to be a version on DVD so I can watch it over and over again. The number by "Chip" about his unfortunate um...puberty-related boy problem (if you get what I mean) brought the ... read more house down! Can't wait to go again and bring a group. | An all around fun evening at Spelling Bee. I came into the show not really knowing what to expect, and left in love with this show! The actors did a great job portraying 13 year olds and the music was phenomenal. Loved the songs Pandemonium and The I Love You Song. My wife went twice, the second time to bring our 14 year old daughter and friend. Recommended. |

| Hysterical! We went with our kids, ages 10 and 12, and they were loving it too. There is one or two shows that are adults only. We'd like to see that without the kids. But the acting is great, the characters unforgetable and the small theater is intimate. Don't miss this one! |

| Unless you like humor that is sacrilegious, liberal, and crude – you will hate this show. My husband and I were extremely disappointed and wish we had left half way through. The only reason we stayed is we kept thinking it would get better. There was only one actor that even had a good voice. It was a total waste of money. Not appropriate for younger children. This show is definetly not worth your money or your time! |

| I went to see the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee because I have now seen all the shows i have wanted to on broadway and since we were going into the city, this one interested me. Let me start by saying if u are going to your first broadway show or if you love shows such as wicked, beauty and the beast, spring awakening etc. , spelling bee is not for you. The atmosphere is very cute resembeling a school, and the theater is not ... read more your regular broadway historic theater, rather much smaller and looks like a circular autitorium of a school. The cast is made up of about 9 people some who have more than one role, and there is no pit orchestra like many broadway shows, only about 3 people playing instruments. Anyways, for the show it is a very funny show. I absolutly loved the audience participation. Some negatives I found were that the songs were very boring, and forgetable. I thought the first hour however was much better than the last 45 minutes of the show. I was entertained but this was more of an off broadway show. The cast was good, the atmosphere is good, there is not much change in costumes, and it was a nice day in NYC. If you have seen most broadway shows and are looking for another one just so you can enjoy your day i would recommend it, otherwise I would try for wicked, jersey boys, beauty and the beast, spring awakening, and such. |

| I went to see this show after not gettng tickets to Wicked. I was a little disgruntled going in seeing as I was dissapointed about Wicked and our seats were on the very edge (stadium seating). I must say I was pleasantly suprised as this is a very funny and witty show! Jump at the chance to see it. |
