| My wife & I go to Broadway regularly, and this is among the very best musicals we have ever seen. Highly recommended. Unfortunately the performance we saw featured an understudy in the lead role of Nellie Forbush, usually played by Kelli O'Hara. We saw Laura Marie Duncan, who seemed like she was on loan from an enthusiastic college production. She seemed content & relieved to simply be able to get thru the show without screwing anything up; very ... read more flat, struggling, a huge disappointment. Apart from her the show was flawless. We'll have to go again and see it with the real star - the rest of the show really is that good. |

Go see it Review by: BnJ, Apr 13, 2008 |
| I have been going to Broadway for about 40 years and see from 15 to 20 shows a year (not all musicals) the is the most lavish production in memory. I am not sure what could have been done better. If you enjoy musicals you owe it to yourself to see it. The performances are first rate, the score is well... THE score and the set is wonderful. Just go see it. |

Enchanting Production, Matchless Music Review by: , Mar 30, 2008 |
What a wonderful show, in every way! I have long been familiar with the score and story of this Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, and have seen various productions throughout the years (including a London staging in '02). Yet this show tops them all, surpassing my expectations by a mile and then some. The sets, while not overly elaborate, really brought the audience into that exotic world of the pacific islands, c. 1940's. And this from a ... read more spectator in the next to last row of the balcony ("loge"). Kelli O'Hara was a joy, adding a truly beautiful, trained voice and real emotion to the sassiness& innocence of the part immortalized by Mary Martin. Paulo Szot looked & acted a perfect Emile de Becque, and his voice brought tears to my eyes...the first to match, in my opinion, the eminent Ezio Pinza of the original production and LP. And that orchestra: there are really no words to describe the feeling of hearing those stunning notes in the original, 30-pieace arrangement conceived by the great Richard Rodgers. Somehow, this production is both classic and current, timeless yet timely. I can't wait to see it again, and I recommend that any true devotee of musical theatre not even think about missing it. I pray it runs forever. |

| We had the pleasure of seeing South Pacific Friday evening and it is amazing! Starting with the Overture, the audience is transported to a magical place. The acting is outstanding, the sets are beautiful and the story is timeless. The first act, at an hour and forty-five minutes flies by. Get tickets ASAP. BRAVO Lincoln Center! |

Great songs - but a little boring overall Review by: TheaterFan, Mar 23, 2008 |
Saw the show at last night's performance. The orchestra is indeed the star of this show. They make it very apparent during the overture when the stage recedes to show the full 30 piece orchestra in all it's glory. Though I can't say the same for the cast. Kelli O'Hara was fine in the role of Nellie Forbush - but played it very very safe IMO. Would have loved to see the production with Reba McEntire in the role. A little more fire ... read more would have been nice. Paulo Szot was fine and brought the 2 show stopping moments to the evening when he opened up his voice to close Act 1 and also on This Nearly Was Mine. Matthew Morrison was missing with Andrew Samonsky filling in for the evening (a big disappointment to have missing cast so early in the run). Found Samonsky to be fine, but again, played it very very safe. All in all, it was very good production. Very predictable as we have all heard the music over and over again. I longed for a new take on the show and the music - not to change it completely, but just give the show a freshness for the 00's. |

| This is a once-in-a-lifetime to hear this beautiful Rodgers and Hammerstein score with a full orchestra. The cast is excellent and the production well put together. Get a ticket if you possibly can! |

musical of musicals Review by: sylvia, Mar 17, 2008 |
| It was fabulous. Every category was 4 stars. The singing was operatic, the acting excellent and the staging simple and creative. I felt so involved, and wondered not only if the rest of the audience was tearful, but whether my tears were partially due to the fact that the show was over. |

The Orchestra Does it All! Review by: AuntieF, Mar 8, 2008 |
...saw South Pacific this afternoon and thought the production was great. The voices were beautiful and the sets were inspired. All in all a truly transforming afternoon. If I was asked for one element that made the production a success, I'd certainly say it was the orchestra. Imagine, a full 30 piece orchestra in this day and age of small orchestras or the cast toting their own instruments. Not only was there a full compliment of musicians,... read more, but in several instances, the stage recedes and the musicians are front and center. How magical! Don't just TRY to get tickets, ABSOLUTELY get tickets!

An Enchanted Evening!! Review by: Elle, Mar 6, 2008 |
What an Enchanted Evening it was last night at the Lincoln Theatre, South Pacific was brilliant!!! I was captivated through the entire show. Three hours went past in the blink of an eye. The acting and singing were superb, and the orchestra was sensational. This musical is a true classic. The set and costume were amazing, it felt as though the south pacific was only a few seats in front of me! I won't be washing these memories ... read more out of my head for a very long time to come. |
