South Pacific and Laura Osnes Are Fabulous Review by: Kevin, Apr 26, 2010 |
| The current run of South Pacific is among the very best of the 50+ musicals I have seen on Broadway. Everything good you have heard is true. In addition, Laura Osnes IS terrific. I saw the show on 4/24/10 and purchased the CD with Kelly O'Hara. I, for one prefer, Laura over Kelly. On stage, she was beautiful, delightful, sang like an angel ... the perfect Nellie Forbush. |

worst musical i've ever seen! Review by: , Apr 20, 2010 |
| This is by far the worst musical i have ever seen. I cannot believe the reviews I'm reading about it being enchanting and magical and beautiful, etc. It is so incredibly boring: there is hardly any action, the storyline is terrible and unbelievable, the costumes and set design is drab, and you are listening to the same song over and over again for 3 hours straight. The people behind me were literally falling asleep (which was pretty convenient ... read more for them because the entire row was empty as was the majority of the theater). the crowd was much older and the songs were forgettable and slow. Trust me, if you like musicals like Grease, Hairspray, Jersey boys etc- this is NOT FOR YOU. Even if you like classics like cats, phantom of the opera, etc, this does not even come close. |

Supremely Disappointing Review by: cspackler, Mar 26, 2010 |
| I love Broadway musicals more than any other art form save opera. I enjoy classics (Oklahoma, West Side Story, Candide, Sweeney Todd) and avante garde productions (Rent, Spring Awakenings, Next to Normal) with equal enthusiasm. However, I walked out at intermission on this one. The theater was half-full, and the production was dull, listless, and uninspired. I'm not sure if the cast just gave up when Kelli O'Hara went on maternity leave, but ... read more I was really disappointed in this show. It simply did not approach the caliber that I expect when I see a show on Broadway. One could see this level of performance (or better) from any touring company. Save your money and give this production the merciful end not afforded its audience on 3.26.10. |

Quite simpley, you can't beat Rodgers and Hammerstein. Everything else around today pales by comparison (with the exception of the Phantom). We've seen it twice - and the second time I brought my 94-year-old father, who is a WWII veteran and who saw the original production. It brought tears to his eyes. This show is a must-see for everyone. |

Classic Broadway Musical Review by: Kim, Oct 6, 2009 |
| This was a must see show. Beautiful sets, music and wonderful cast. Our seats were stage right, second row, so sets and actors obstructed the view at times, but it gave the perspective of being onstage-which I enjoyed. A great night at the theater for a real lover of broadway! |

Wonderful Production, But Please Come Back Soon Kelli OHara Review by: BroadwayBabySawIt, Aug 7, 2009 |
| We went back for a second time last night, taking a friend with us. Most of the production is as wonderful as we remember from last year - this show has the best music, the best sets, and overall the best direction of any current Broadway show - and the best male chorus we've ever seen, theater or opera. The standout performances are still from Paulo Szot as Emile de Becque, Danny Burstein as Luther Billis ... read more (wonderful comedian) and Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary - all deliver Grade A performances. But poor Laura Osnes as Nellie is not ready for Broadway, and the whole thing sags and stalls when she's onstage. She is delivering a small performance in a big space with big actors, and it's sad to see. The only actor that we've ever seen deliver a meaningful, character-driven cartwheel onstage was Meryl Streep in The Seagull, otherwise its usually a desperate ploy for audience support, and that's what we saw Ms Osnes do last night. We'd rather have better acting and singing than cheap stunts. The person we took with us is an acting coach, and she said it best - great show, but the woman playing Nellie is missing in action even when she's center stage. Getting past that big flaw, do go see South Pacific for a rare, carefully thought out and wonderfully presented show with gorgeous music, but please come back soon Kelli O'Hara as Nellie, we miss, miss, miss you!!! |

Fantastic must-see Show Review by: jeannie, Aug 5, 2009 |
My daughter and I saw the matinee on August 1st. Initially I was very disappointed that an understudy was playing the part of Emile de Beque. However, William Michaels was just brilliant. Everyone in the cast was wonderful - Billis, Bloody Mary, sexy Joe Cable - the scenery was beautifully put together. Words cannot describe listening to the orchestra - blissful. I must see it again! The theatre is the most comfortable I have been ... read more in and there is not a bad seat in the house. |

wouldn't pay full price for it Review by: mandamia, Jul 8, 2009 |
| The acting and voices were great.Theater wasn't big so most seats were good seats.Everyone did a great job.The sets were very creative and well done. I found the songs dull and repetitive and the play got boring.I enjoyed 9 to 5 much more and it was filled with non stop entertainment.Husband felt the same. |

A DELIGHTFUL WINNER Review by: , Jul 5, 2009 |
Nothing is quite as enjoyable as a vintage "Rogers & Hammerstein" show and this revival of "South Pacific" is just that.... An absolutely wonderful show from beginning to end! The sets were great, the actors were terrific and the music....SUPURB! A definite "MUST SEE" for anyone and everyone! |

Absolutely wonderful ; A lovely production Review by: , Jul 4, 2009 |
| In my opinion, South Pacific is one of the few remarkable Broadway shows that are showing today. The set was bright & colorful. The performers were delightful & extremely talented. The show is approx. three hours but the time just flew by! I've always wanted to see it and when I finally found tickets I was totally stoked. It completely lived up to my expectations!!! |

There are better on Broadway! Review by: luvamusical, Jun 16, 2009 |
| I've seen just about every musical that is out on broadway right now and I wouldn't recommend this one over many others. Laura Osnes has difficulty projecting her voice and sometimes forgets her accent. Other reviewers were accurate in that the orchestra does a FABULOUS job and the sets are great but when the lead just isn't up to par it's a bit disappointing. |

The Best Play on Broadway Review by: nthrich, Jun 5, 2009 |
| This was a magic evening. The actors were outstanding and music brought back memories. The sets were incredible - the beach, the airplane and the military trucks gave the feel of WWII in the South Pacific. Don't miss this revival! |
