Shrek: Fun, cute, amazing set and effects. Made for kids, but fun for adults too Review by: Rob O from Toronto, Aug 29, 2009 |
Saw Shrek this evening (after seeing Next to Normal last nite) First of all, this show has amazing production value. If you take children, they will be mesmerized by all the scene changes, revolving stage etc. The songs, yeah most are cute. The plot is cute, it's the same as the first Shrek movie. Lord Farqad is the show, he steals it. I had a good time, so did my friend. I see a lot of shows, and I laughed during this one. It's not brilliant, ... read more nor something to rave about. It's fun, it's cute, it's enjoyable. If i had a choice to only see one show while in NYC. It wouldn't be this show. It would be next to normal. Someone on this board wrote that there was swear words (as she wrote) in this show. The only ones were j**k-a**, and a** (those are hardly 'swear words')

Hysterical Show Review by: travelmommaryland, Aug 3, 2009 |
| We loved Shrek The Musical! It was hysterically funny. We took our kids age 8 and two 14 year olds and we laughed just as hard as they did. We loved the songs so much we actually bought the CD and we have been listening to it nonstop. Donkey was awesome! There were a couple of swear words in the show. Why was that was necessary for a kid's show? We saw Wicked the night before, so we were a little worried going into Shrek it would ... read more be a big disappointment. Thankfully, we worried for nothing. We loved it almost as much as we loved Wicked. Definitely see this show if you have kids. |

These reviews made me believe this was good..... im here to warn you Review by: bigkev, Aug 2, 2009 |
| was it just me... but this musical was cold and not very funny. I was looking forward to the show, but the jokes became too repetitive towards the end, and i couldnt remember a single song walking out. I thought the performances were not in comparison to all the shows i have seen, and the show needs to eliminate about 20mins. Paying some much money for something unoriginal and uninspired, when i got a whole lot more entertainment out ... read more of 'Burn The Floor' for half the price seems unjustified. Dont believe the hype, its nice, but there is alot better that Broadway has to offer |

WOW --- SHREK RULES Review by: J, Jul 31, 2009 |
| Saw Shrek last night & was blown away! I was not expecting such a great show!! I go to Broadway often and had put this one off & I should not have. The Sets were absolutely UNBELIEVABLE - SPECTACULAR!! The show is worth seeing just for the special effects. The music, dance & performances were equally great. Plenty of double entendre comedy that parents will LOVE and the kids will just dismiss. Don't let this one leave ... read more Broadway without seeing it.... |

Very funny...a must see for the etire family Review by: familyx3, Jul 26, 2009 |
| This is a great show for the young and old. We were undecided on what show to see since we had ages ranges from 13 - 65. Shrek was wonderful. Great acting, awesome set, good music! Very funny and kept everyone entertained. |

REALLY funny, would recommend Review by: , Jul 13, 2009 |
What a fun show! The set designs were terrific and overall was a totally enjoyable show. Contemporary humor that would appeal to children, young adults and middle agers. The Seniors that we were with did not follow the entire plot, but still enjoyed. "Donkey" and "Lord" were brilliantly cast and hysterically funny. |

Bravo to a great cast, I will be back! Review by: Angel, Jun 22, 2009 |
I went to the theatre along with three friends. Two of those friends were Catholic Priests. I often take various priests to broadway shows since they are not able to do so on their own. I must tell you that Shrek was one of the best shows I have ever been to. We laughed throughout the show. It is truly refreshing to see such wholesome entertainment. I have since gotten tickets for other members of my family, priests and used the tickets ... read more in a raffle for our church. Bravo to the cast etc. Thank you again.

Shrek-a Licious Review by: TravelScott, Jun 14, 2009 |
| This is a very enjoyable show, that appeals to large audience of people. True Theatre Geeks, Like Myself, will find it a bit contrived. But I went with someone that has very limited Theatre experience and they loved it. Especially Lord Farquewart. Watching Sutton Foster's antics reminded me of what Carol Burnette must have looked like in "Once Upon A mattress". Total Slapstick Camp. |

Review by: JMR, Jun 13, 2009 |
| Why did this show get a Tony nomination for Best Musical??? The costumes were great, the music not so much plus a stage malfunction in the middle of the show did not help matters. I will not see this show again. |

This musical is a must see Review by: Vicky, Jun 10, 2009 |
| Shrek the musical is unbelieveable. It's a wonderful show, you will want to see it again and again. The actors are amazing. Shrek holds his own in his acting and has a great voice. Princess Fiona is amazing and Lord Farquaad and donkey are absoultely hilarious. The scenes, cast and music all merry together perfectly. This show is for all ages and is much better than the movie. I give it 5 stars. |

Much better than The Little Mermaid! Go see this! Review by: , Jun 2, 2009 |
| I really enjoyed this musical. "Shrek the Musical" is filled with humor and a ton of heart as well. The book also has stuff that both adults and parents will enjoy. The sets are terrific, they make you feel like you're in a storybook and the costumes are also top notch. The actors for this production were perfectly cast. Brina d'Arcy James makes the role of Shrek his own. He'll make you laugh as well as touch your heart. Sutton Foster is ... read more wonderful as Princess Fiona. She is funny and has such terrific stage presence. Daniel Breaker also does not imitate Eddie Murphy and plays Donkey the way he wants to. Christopher Seiber cracked me up so much as Lord Farquad. You will be presently surprised with how much you'll enjoy this show. I'd go see this instead of "The Little Mermaid" any day. |

Review by: Dramamama, May 25, 2009 |
Blech. I was utterly bored almost the entire time. Honestly, I wouldn't even reccommend this to families: based on my own kids' reactions.... There is language involved throughout that does NOT NEED to be in a family show. Nothing horrid...but just unneccessasry. My 8 year old kept asking why they had to swear. Of the three shows we saw that week, this was BY far their least favorite with Stomp (off b'way) and Wicked far outshining it ... read more for BOTH my kids. (I also have a 12 year old.) The ACTORS are quite good, I will give you that....but the songs and the book are insipid and not worth purchasing the cd. I just kept thinking WHY? The best part of the evening? When my daughter swooned over meeting Neil Patrick Harris who was sitting a few rows in front of us. A better family show? LION KING, Even Mary Poppins. |
