Simply Dreadful Review by: addisondewitt, Aug 8, 2009 |
| This mini musical is jaw droppingly bad. The actors try their hardest, but the inane lyrics, banal score and simplistic plot sabotage them at every turn. Every twist and turn can be seen coming from a mile away and the final fade out is so predictable and corny as to be laughable. The only positive thing I can find to say about this never ending production is the performance of the very talented and credible Robert Newman as the therapist. ... read more With admirable stamina he tries to make sense of this mishmosh and almost succeeds. I would love to see him do the lead in a better musical than this. I hate to be negative and try to find something good in everything, but this musical is simply dreadful and I advise you to stay far away from it. |

Loved the Show! Review by: mscritique, Jul 15, 2009 |
| I saw Sessions and really enjoyed the show! The Algonquin Theatre is beautiful and inimate and this off Broadway play was perfectly executed. The songs were exceptionally catchy, and each performer was perfect. Robert Newman (A Guiding Light) added star power to this production and one felt that the cast was enjoying themselves, too, and connecting with the audience. This will run a LONG time. |

left me feeling a bit disapointed! Review by: , Jun 20, 2009 |
| I have to say first that it was a great venue! I loved the setup of the theatre! The opening of the play was weak, but did pick-up as the show goes went on. I was very impressed with most of the actors. There were a few actors who were to over the top dramatic "theater" actors. It almost took away from the show a bit. The actor who thinks he is bob dylan in hte show, is awesome. I have to admit, the singing was really phenominal!!! Overall ... read more it wasn't a waste of money, but I'm definitly not telling people it's a must see! |

Great voices lift a pleasant musical Review by: Eldee, May 1, 2009 |
Dr. Peterson sings! And so do all the patients in his group therapy sessions. Maya Days (who has appeared in Aida) has an unforgettable voice as does Liz Larsen who plays Mary. Problem is you won't remember any songs since none of them are unforgettable. The show also makes do with only an on-stage piano, and no other instruments. The plot line will grab you in the second act as the audience becomes entwined in the lives of the patients.... read more. Overall, not a bad afternoon in the theater. |

Sessions @ the Algonquin A worthwhile evening Review by: Online Viewer, Apr 10, 2009 |
| My wife and I saw Sessions last night. the show and the theater are equally matched. The theater is intimate and the cast is able to connect with the audience. The play as a musical holds up well and the dancing keeps it light. While there is no new ground being broken, there is more than sufficient emotion and skill being presented that the evening was enjoyable. |

A fun evenings entertainment Review by: , Feb 7, 2009 |
| Don't listen to the professional reviews. We saw this show tonight and really enjoyed. The actors did a great job and it is exactly what you hope for in an off broadway production, personal, well done, and a nice group of people running the theater. I would see Sessions again and I would recommend it to friends. |
