despite the excellent cast, it is no better than a Vegas impersonation. Arrangements and stabs at "scening" the songs were trite. The second worst show I have seen in 5 years (about 30 shows).

No, this is not a show with a story spoken through many words, or with lots of dancing, or with original songs. But it is a story told through the words of the songs composed and/or sung by Johnny Cash and June Carter. Many of the so-called critics didn't focus on the body language, facial gestures and interaction of the very talented performers in realizing that the songs follow an order of sorts that highlight the high and low points ... read more of Johnny Cash's life along with his very subtle messages about life. The cast is very talented in their rednitions of the songs, the sets are unique, and the fact that there are multiple singers should not put off the traditionalists who think that only one person should highlight the singer. This is a unique production, different from many of the current batch of Broadway productions featuring the music of a single performer or group. I went with my spouse and my 13 year old son on a 4 day holidayin New York. We all enjoyed the show very much even though they are not true Cash fans. There is real talent in this show from the singers to the musicians, many of whom double or triple up their talents in the show. And all of them line up to play the guitar in one song. Go see it!!!

I really enjoyed it. The musicians and the cast were excellent. It isn't "dark" enough for broadway critics to like, but it left me singing and feeling great. See it!

I loved it. I'm not a country music fan, but found it very enjoyable. The muscians were excellent, especially the fiddler, Laurie Canaan. WOW! Loved the screen set. I will take friends to see it.

I knew little about Johnny Cash so went with few expectations. My children knew nothing about his music. We just went to listen and have fun. The singing is great, the musicians are amazing. We were glad the theatre was carpeted so we could tap our feet along with the beat of the music. It may not have much of a story but it is just plain fun. Go, enjoy and be suprised how much of the music you know. It is a clap along, sing along show. ... read more Definitely worth it.

This isn't broadway caliber. This is a theme park show, without the puppets. Lari White sure can sing, though.

The music and voices are excellent - acting/staging - HOKEY - would have enjoyed it more if it were at Don't Tell Papa's Country Pi-ana Bar - so I could drink and chat during performance. If you like country and seeing good musicians perform - it can be a lot of fun - not Broadway material - LOOK AT THAT CORN!!!!, look at them beans...

As others have said, there is no "plot" here, so if you need that in your theatre experience, don't go. If you don't like country music, period, don't go. But if you can appreciate the simple beauty of the songs performed here (most, but not all, are associated with or written by Cash) and are the type of person that can work on "feel" and don't need a literal, linear story, go. The songs (mostly Cash's, but there are some non-Cash ... read more tunes) are sequenced in such a way to present a portrait of an American experience that I found, at various times, uplifting, humoruous, wistful and sad.

I was visiting NY from Canada and had to see a Broadway play. I chose this one because I am a Cash fan. I enjoyed it because I grew up listening to his music. My friend who is not really a fan was disappointed. The younger girls sitting beside us left at intermission. The singing/acting was great, but unless you know Cash's life history it would seem like your just listening to a bunch of country songs.

I was not really expecting to like this bit I must admit I did. A friend gave me a discounted ticket that she was unable to use. This is not a book musical so there is no plot to follow but it does tell a story sorts and the music and performances are wonderful. Cash songs have been in my head all day and I consider that a good thing.

If you've ever gone to Disney World and seen "Country Bears Jamboree," you'll have a good idea of what to expect from "Ring of Fire." I admit I'm not a Johnny Cash fan, but I'm not a Four Seasons fan either, and I loved "Jersey Boys." It has no plot like "All Shook Up," no great dancers like "Moving Out," and no biographical data like "Lennon." It was just a bunch of mismatched musical numbers. A few of the numbers had some cute two-stepping ... read more and in one song a guy played a chair instead of his drums, but other than that, it was pretty hum-drum. Skip this one. Not Broadway material.

Loved this show. It is more than a review or a jukebox musical. It truly lives up to the wonderful music with great performances and a fantastic band. The projection screens were stunning and well used. Went with my family. We all loved it.
