SKIP IT Review by: Michele, Apr 23, 2011 |
| Was looking forward to this play based on the concept, but even midway through I was glad I only paid $8 for the ticket. Laughed - but not hysterically. I wonder if I saw the same play as the reviewers below. The two actors that played the producers were good, as well as the actress who played the "dimwit." The "dramatic" scenes should have been eliminated. |

Go See now! Review by: barb, Apr 19, 2011 |
| If you want a fun night out go see this play. There were parts where I laughed so hard my sides hurt. It was unbelievably charming, well written, well acted and well directed. I had a great time all around. It'd be a great show to see with your girlfriends! |

"Reading Under the Influence" is Under the Weather! Review by: fATU, Apr 18, 2011 |
| The stylish set--a living room done up in whites and cream lifts expectations high for the ensemble play, "Reading Under the Influence" at the D.R. Theatre on East 15th Street. But those expectations are dashed once the lead actor, Joanna Bayless as Jocelyn takes over in the first act. Her stiffness is never successfully offset by the other more poised (seemingly more talented) bookclub members, Summer Moore, Ashley Morris and Barbara Walsh. ... read more Saddled with an amateurish script, "Reading..." attempts satirizing bookclubs and reality television, but never quite coheres, despite some hilarious moments. Most of these come in the second act when the tv scouting crew arrives--camera man Jeremy Webb and technical person, Maria-Christina Oliveras. Their acting is flawless, their lines consistently funny, and they're almost able to salvage the play. Well directed by Wendy Goldberg, "Under the Influence" might have been a successful dramatic experience with more extensive workshopping. |
