Strong drama with excellent performances Review by: JW, Jul 2, 2007 |
| Saw the final performance yesterday. Although not perfect, it's a shame this show is closing, particularly since there are few dramatic offerings on Broadway presently. The plsy features a contemporary, realistic and absorbing plot, laced with biting humor, and finely executed by a very talented cast. The only problem I had with the play was the extremely moralistic stance taken concerning the complex economic and political issues the play ... read more raises. Thought-provoking experience. |

RADIO GOLF: "The Gang's All Here!" Review by: Limelight Mike, Jun 20, 2007 |
AUGUST WILSON'S RADIO GOLF Cort Theatre 138 W. 48th Street
Don't miss the 10th and final work in August Wilson's historic, decade-by-decade portrait of 20th century African-American life.
Set in 1997 in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the play could be ripped from today's headlines, as Harmond Wilks, a charming and powerful African-American politician, is running for the highest office of his career with the loving support of ... read more his savvy wife, Mame. As Harmond steps into political prominence, the past is just a few steps behind him and gaining fast.
I had the pleasure of attending the evening performance of August Wilson's RADIO GOLF on Wednesday, June the 20th. Having purchased a pair of tickets roundabout 3 weeks ago, and going by the reviews it picked-up upon opening in May, I knew that I was in for something special. I sat Center Orchestra, Row BB, Seat 106. Harry Lennix was superb in the lead role of Harmond Wilks. Special nods of recognition must go out to Anthony Chisholm for his inspired and ever-so-moving Elder Joseph Barlow, John Earl Jelks who added dashes of drama and humor with Sterling Johnson, James A. Williams as the right-hand-man turned money-grubbing-meanie in Roosevelt Hicks) and the lovely Tonya Pinkins as Harmond's wife Mame.
The most contemporary of playwright late August Wilson's prolific body of work, Radio Golf is a fast-paced, dynamic and funny piece about the world today and the dreams we have for the future. Don't miss this rare opportunity to experience Wilson's final play in its very first Broadway production. As far as I'm concerned, RADIO GOLF amounts to 2 hours and 25 minutes of true-to-life artistic and stylistic integrity that Broadway hasn't accurately felt in decades. It's such a shame that this show will only last until July 1st 2007. Experience August Wilson's at his finest in this thought-provoking, awe-inspiring, and masterfully-crafted gem ... RADIO GOLF.
Best, - Mike

Predictabe Story Line but... Review by: Vixxen, Jun 13, 2007 |
| Although fairly well predictable in its outcome, I thoroughly enjoyed this last in the August Wilson series! Made for a very entertaining evening for both the young and senior members of our group. Had a nice mix of humor and thought provoking moments. Go and see it; you won't be disappointed. |

Great cast, good play. See it! Review by: stagestrucknyc, May 9, 2007 |
I really enjoyed the fine performances by a terrific cast. It has it all, humor, irony, and a touching nostalgia for what cannot be recaptured. Very grateful that August Wilson was able to finish this play and endow us with this fascinating extension of his Pittsburgh series. |

Alas The End Review by: Pericles, Apr 23, 2007 |
| Having seen all nine previous plays in August Wilson's ten play saga, I looked forward with great anticipation to "Radio Golf". On Saturday evening April 21 I found the play an apt culmination of the series. Some of the actors were in full stride, others more tentatively getting into their roles. No this does not have the power of "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" or "Fences", but the decade of the 1990's does not lend itself to such drama. Perhaps ... read more if Mr. Wilson was still with us this could be the perfect ending play but what was on stage more than fit the bill. |

Radio Golf was worth seeing Review by: chicogirl, Apr 21, 2007 |
| My husband and I saw the show at a Saturday matinee. The acting was great as well as August Wilson's story. It was quite serious but had comedic overtones. I would recommend it |

Another great Drama on Broadway Review by: terry, Apr 20, 2007 |
Another great drama, with lots of laughs as well, on Broadway.
Can't go wrong with August Wilson, this play was wonderful, same with the performances.
Between Frost/Nixon, Journeys End, The Year of Magical Thinking, Inherit the Wind, Blackbird and now this, lots of great drama to choose from!
Fantastic. |
