Got to see Kristin Chenowith lucky me! Review by: Turkey Lurkey???, Jul 7, 2010 |
Though Kristin Chenowith was tiny tiny tiny, it was really her!!!!! Yeah!!!! I got to see Kristin Chenowith in real life!!! Sean Hayes was also good, the background was nice, but could have been fuller. Except the set of his apartment, which was nice. The opening number was really nice but too bad they didn't have any more really big numbers like that. and the turkey song was kind of an anticlimax - they could have found something better ... read more to sing about... Anyway, the applause brought the house down. Go Kristin, go sean! |

My favorite show - would see it again. Review by: lovebroadway, Jul 4, 2010 |
| Loved this production - worth the price of admission just for the first scene of the second act. Saw Wicked, Billy Elliot, Addams Family, and In the Heights - this was the best show per dollar. See it close up as the acting is fabulous and it is worth it to see the expressions. My daughter (16) loved it just as much. |

Good leads stuck in dated show Review by: dietgrl, Jun 13, 2010 |
| This showed is extremely dated. Women's jobs are either secretaries or hostesses, all the executives are men. Its not easy to buy Kristin Chenoweth as a character without a spine, this is not a perky role for her. That said, her voice is beautiful, but not allowed to soar because of the pop music she has to sing. Sean Hayes is good and has a nice voice. Kate Finneran livens up the show, but has such a minor role. I don't think there is a ... read more good way to revive this musical unless they change the whole plot. |

Sean and Kristin Impress But The Show is Dated and Offensive to Women Review by: flyersfan, Jun 11, 2010 |
| I was really impressed with Sean Hayes' performance in Promises, Promises. He carried the show with an effortless charm that was quite winning. Boy, can Kristin Chenoweth sing. How that huge voice comes out of her tiny body, I do not know. Unfortunately the show is horribly dated. When Tony Goldwyn's character sings about "Wanting Things" meaning women, as a woman I was offended. Plus, the wistful way the song was sung was as if we ... read more were suppose to feel sorry for the character who was cheating on his wife and in love with K.C.'s character. I also could not suspend my disbelief for this show set in the early 60's, when the male characters were singing about needing a place to bring their girlfriends because they could not go to hotels. |

Sean Hayes Steals the Show Review by: lovesthetheatre, Jun 9, 2010 |
| I decided on Promises Promises because of the two main stars, Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth. Let me say that Sean Hayes was phenomonal in the role of Chuck. I was pleasantly surprised at how well he carried off the vocals. His energy and enthusiasm on stage took me back to his performance as Jack on Will & Grace. My husband who is hard to please, was very entertained by Sean Hayes and his antics. My husband compared him to Jerry Lewis. ... read more My only disappointment was with Kristen Chenoweth whom I adore and whose voice I love but this was definitely not her genre of music. As she sang all I could think of was Dionne Warwick's rendition of the songs. All in all it was a delightful experience and I would recommend this show highly. |

Good Show/Bad Casting Review by: AEA Gal, Jun 7, 2010 |
| Sean Hayes is brilliant. Dear Kristen is totally miscast. Fabulous choreography, especially the boys' pieces. The two added musical numbers were odd, but I understand from a producer's point why they were added. I love this show, but didn't like Kristen in this production AT ALL. |

Love you Sean! Review by: Legs, Jun 6, 2010 |
| Absolutely delightful! Sean Hayes is wonderful, perfect for this role and has a beautiful voice. The entire cast is terrific and Katie does steal the show in Act II. Adorable, yet powerful, Kristin Chenoweth is almost shockingly inappropriate as Fran in her first scenes but seems more Fran-like as the play progresses. No problem with the move to the Mad Men era of '62; it works. And Burt's music -- what could be better? |

Review by: Jean, May 27, 2010 |
| Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth are a cute couple in a pleasant and engaging musical performance. Burt Bacharach has always been a favorite of mine with his musical compositions, and those of my era (60ish and up) and those of romantic inclination will enjoy this light-hearted, fun show. |

I promise you'll love iti Review by: Chonkers, May 27, 2010 |
| This show is fabulous! I have seen nearly every show on Broadway, and for pure musical comedy, this is the one to see! Laughed for two hours, and enjoyed the great Bacharach standards while doing so...we saw the show yesterday, with Kristin's stand-in, Sarah Jane Everman playing the lead - she was fantastic. A beuatiful voice and considering she is the stand-in, she had amazing chemistry with Sean Hayes. Sean Hayes should stay on Broadway - ... read more he is comic genius, the likes of which are very rare these days. Of course, Katie Finneran stole the show - the Tony is hers this year. Run don't walk to this one..... |

A Great Show! Review by: evi.nyc, May 23, 2010 |
| I thought this show was wonderful. My husband and I took our twelve year old son along since we are all big Bacharach fans. The music was spectacular and Sean Hayes, Kristin Chenoweth and Katie Finneran were fabulous. Definitely worth seeing! |

Eh. Review by: , May 17, 2010 |
| Without Sean Hayes I would have fallen asleep. The songs all seem to be the same, one after the other.. the dancing is excellent, but again, repetitive style. Kristen Chenoweth's voice is annoying.. the overall show is just not great. Sean Hayes is fantastic in every respect. |

Go see - only if you want to see a celebrity Review by: Clarice, May 16, 2010 |
| The story is dated. The jokes are the type that you roll your eyes and chuckle. If you are a tourist and are excited to see a celebrity, then you'll like the show. If you are interested in seeing a great broadway show, then avoid this one. Sean Hayes is a wonderful actor, but he has difficulty singing. His vibrato is so fast that it is distracted. Kristen has a wonderful, powerful voice, but her voice did not work in this role. The group ... read more dancing was not always in sync and we had enough by intermission and left. |

Eh, wanted to like it but just couldn't Review by: Really tried to like it but...., May 15, 2010 |
Really tried to like this show but it didn't quite cut it for me and my daughter who wanted to leave at intermission. Yes, Sean is adorable, sings well and his best scenes are with Kate Finneran (she was great in Love, Loss and What I Wore)...during the matinee today, they adlibbed some stuff and were cracking themselves up which was cute. We love Kristen but this is not the role for her and plays it kind of lackluster and not with the usual ... read more Kristen spark. Tony Goldwyn is just ok, again nothing special and doesn't come off as smarmy as Fred McMurray did in the movie. This is a good show for tourists and those who rarely go to the theater as it's pretty pedestrian. I find it hard to believe that this show is up for several Tony's...it's nothing special. The movie the Apartment which this show is based on is 100% superior even without the music. |

Sean delivers on his promises, promises! Review by: Ricky's Redhead (again), May 12, 2010 |
| I am writing this as a response to the hideous, homophobic article published in Newsweek by the self-loathing Ramin Setoodeh. At no point while watching Sean Hayes perform as C.C. Baxter was I thinking "Wow, look at that gay man." The whole time I watched it laughing at the hilarious dialogue, and admiring the entire ensemble for their amazing talent. I have to admit, my husband was not optimistic that Sean Hayes would play the part ... read more straight enough or sing well enough. He along with anyone else who had similar concerns were relieved the second Sean it the stage. This show is just a fantastic testament to the huge range that Sean Hayes possesses as a performer. We were so blown away that we will be going back to see the show again. |

I Promise, Promise You'll Love it! Review by: Ricky's Redhead, May 8, 2010 |
| Promises, Promises was the most enjoyable theater experience ever! The book is everything you could ask for….brilliant, hilarious, fast moving. The music is timeless. The music works beautifully with the book, and provides wonderful opportunities for Kristen Chenoweth and Sean Hayes to show what power-houses they are. Yes the show is dated, but in a good way. It takes place at a certain time, just the same way Jersey Boys does. The ... read more entire ensemble is fantastic. After seeing this production last night, despite being huge fans of the late, great Jerry Orbach, it is unthinkable that anyone could hold this show together with the charm and energy that Sean Hayes does. As far as Kristen Chenoweth, she is one amazing actress and singer. I never thought that “A House Is Not a Home” would bring chills the way it did when I saw Luther Vandross perfom it, but Kristen Chenoweth definitely did! Katie Finneran had comic timing like we’ve never seen in a Broadway actress before. We couldn’t say a bad word about this show (and my husband can usually find something). The set and costume designers were brilliant. The choreography was adorable and a blast to watch. We had such a wonderful time at this show, we were so sad that it had to end. We are beyond eager for the cast album to come out! |
