A touching romantic comedy - Glad I saw it Review by: stagestrucknyc.com, Mar 14, 2007 |
This play can be enjoyed on many levels -- you can just respond to it as a sweet romantic comedy, or you can take it as a fantasy that bends reality with its transmigration of souls, or look deeper for its symbolism and imagery. Is love tied to the outward form of the body? Can tenderness and affection surmount bodily decay? Or as Shakespeare said, "Love is not Love which alters when it Alteration finds, or bends with the Remover to ... read more remove." If there is any flaw in this production, it seems that the resolution of what happened to the beautiful young bride is so much foreshadowed and then so quickly revealed that the play misses out on the potential puzzle and mystery. But on the other hand, the play is genuinely moving. It is wonderfully evocative, wistful, and philosophical about mortality and the fear of age and decay. I never saw the original production in 1990, so I cannot compare, but I enjoyed seeing this. |

A Small Sweet Show! Review by: AuntieF, Mar 5, 2007 |
| Prelude to a Kiss is a small show by today's Broadway standards. By no means should you miss it because of this. I was charmed by all of the emotions the cast displayed. I saw the original in the 80's. This was NOT a pale comparision, it was a sweet tale definately holding its own! Go to see it -- suspend your reality for 2 hours and enjoy the fantasy. Also, do not try to analyze the meaning of the story. In the 80's everyone who spoke of ... read more the show tried to tie it to the emergence of the AIDS crisis. What will we try to tie it to now? Just enjoy the emotions, the minimal sets and the good cast! |
