Run to Peter and the Starcatcher Review by: Lane, May 2, 2012 |
I have now seen all the nominees for the Tony Award for Best Play. Peter and the Starcatcher is by far the most creative and entertaining. I loved Other Desert Cities and Clybourne Park but I really think Peter was the most original and creative and deserves the award.

Must See! Review by: MattM, May 2, 2012 |
| My friends and I saw Peter and the Starcatcher last night. The show was imaginative, inspiring, and a lot of fun. I laughed so hard through Act 2 that I was in tears for several minutes. Peter and the Starcatcher is truly magical and you can't help but fall in love with the story. It's a must see! |

FIANALLY!! Review by: AJ S. , Apr 30, 2012 |
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed PETER AND THE STARCATCHER! This brilliant show gives the audience a sense of Commedia dell'arte and Elizabethan acting troupes. With minimalistic scenery and very few props the attention rests heavily on the quality of acting and storytelling, both of which are impeccable. Alex Timbers and Roger Rees have proven that productions without over-the-top gimmicks are still possible on Broadway. Here is to ... read more hoping that this show paves the way for theater to return to what it used to be before the digital age. A great script with flawless acting and direction without the artifice of what Broadway has turned into! |

Review – Peter and the Starcatcher Review by: csmingus, Apr 29, 2012 |
Last Thursday (04-26-12) I got a chance to see the Broadway play Peter and the Starcatcher at the Brooks Atkinson Theater on West 47th Street. I had an absolute blast at this laugh-out-loud story of how Peter Pan came to be. I felt like I was watching a mixture of Vaudeville, Monty Python, and an adult child’s wild imagination unfurl on stage. This is a straight play with some great playful songs interspersed throughout the show. The writing ... read more is witty and sometimes tawdry all the while having a bit tongue-in-cheek glow. From the beginning to the end this is just an absolute funny and thoroughly entertaining play that you should be experiencing. If you’re a fan of the TV show Smash, then this is your chance to see Christian Borle, who plays Tom Levitt in the show, on stage and being probably one of the most physically talented entertainers I have seen in ages. The entire cast is truly talented at physical and slapstick comedy and work exceptionally well with each other. Between the great set, music, and and insanely talented cast, you are getting a big entertainment bang for your buck! I personally and highly recommend that you see this show! |

Loved It. Review by: kakaka, Apr 28, 2012 |
After reading some of the reviews here, I was worried that my children and I were going to be disappointed with this show. We should not have worried though, it was hysterical. We started laughing within the first two minutes of this great play, and did not stop until it was over. I loved the way the actors were several characters at once as well as the scenery and props at times. I was worried that such a minimalist show would ... read more be a disappointment but found it much more inventive and creative than many of the expensive productions I have seen. I think the people who did not like the show did not understand it, or have no sense of humor. My one complaint is that I missed quite a few of the jokes because the music was too loud and I could not hear the actors sometimes. Also, they spoke very quickly. The musical numbers were few and far between, and we could not understand the lyrics for the most part. Still the show was so funny, and the characters so entertaining, especially Stache, that we loved the whole thing. It was silly, and fun. I recommend it highly. |

Love Peter and Starcatcer Review by: mdreamgirl, Apr 27, 2012 |
| Not only did I love the show, but I love the fact that it will entertain a whole family. I would like to take my friend's children to a show when they come here but I don't want to bore them or subject them to something juvenile. This show is witty, super smart, brilliantly staged and delightful. Anyone of taste and intelligence will laugh and love it. |

Never Again Review by: Mr. C, Apr 23, 2012 |
First of all, this is not a show for children. I have seen better high school productions. My wife and I fell asleep during parts of the first act (and that never happened before). The show tried to be in my opinion a mixture of 39 Steps, Spamalot and one liners that I thought were not funny. Save yourself money by not seeing this show. |

Peter Pan for the Contra-Cathy Rigby Audience Review by: upthehudson, Apr 22, 2012 |
| It was a spontaneous decision for a Saturday matinee. I wasn't feeling like mainstream and knew Dave Barry was behind the book on which this play is based. My wife and I couldn't have been more pleased with our decision. Peter & The Starcatcher is a clever, creative and very funny vision of Peter Pan's origins. The ensemble cast works incredibly hard, playing multiple roles and even serving as some props. Bring your imagination; the budget ... read more apparently doesn't allow for sophisticated set design and changes, but the actors provide hilarious alternatives. The humor and observations are actually intended for adults..the younger children will not only be clueless - they may even be bored. Great performances and energy, many laughs and a suitably sentimental ending - all we could have wanted! I enthusiastically recommend it. |

Very mixed... Review by: joan, Apr 21, 2012 |
| This play tries very hard to play to both adult and childrens audiences and I think ulitmately doesn't get there. The 1st act needs some Umph! to get people attached, the 2nd act is better because you're finally seeing that you will get to Peter Pan. Some of the stage craft works (the mirror), some of it not (the alligator). Really wanted to love this, but didn't hate it. |

String and Light Review by: nomadamon, Apr 20, 2012 |
| Loved the show! ...and so did the 5 year old sitting behind me. :-) Delightful, funny and truly done well! It just goes to show that a little (money) goes a loooong way: I'd much rather spend my money on Peter and the Starcatcher than on the mega budget flop Spiderman. PS - kudos to the set designer!! Amazing use of string and light!! |

Dear lord I hated this show! Review by: Helga, Apr 19, 2012 |
| The kids and I were in the balcony and people around us were falling asleep right and left. My grandkids (19 down to 10) hated it as well, the 10 year old said he felt like he was locked in a room with the ADD kids at school. A woman near us with a hyperactive daughter said it was going to set her little girl back for a month and they had to get out at intermission. For some reason, the orchestra sounded like they were having a good time,... read more, but for the life of us, my kids and the folks around us could not figure out why. I had never heard of Christian Borle before this and I hope to heaven I never do again. The 19 year old made me watch him on an episode of that Smash after and he makes me wish I was in a chair getting a root canal. I see every else likes this play, but boy did the kids and I HATE it. Clearly no one in the balcony is reading the New York Times. |

Imaginative, hysterical, magical, amazing Review by: WJU138, Apr 19, 2012 |
| Imaginative, hysterical, magical, fantastical, the adjectives go on and on. Incredibly strong ensemble cast, great for the whole family. So much talent on that stage. Go go go! Makes for a great night (or matinee) of theater :) |

Review by: Theatrefan123, Apr 15, 2012 |
| Going into this play, I had heard good things and saw a few videos on the official website...it looked "cute". To my surprise, it was so much more! It was a minimal set, requiring the actors to become some of the props. Christian Borle as "Black Stache" and Arnie Burton as Mrs. Bumbrake were hysterical and had me in stitches. The entire cast was amazing. A delightful day of theatre. (Minus the fact that my face hurt from smiling / laughing so ... read more much!) I already have my tickets to see the show again! If you are in NYC, I definitely recommend skipping the big production shows and going to see this one instead...you won't be disappointed! |

Stay home and catch your own stars-- Review by: Mars969, Apr 14, 2012 |
| This play is advertised as "The story behind Peter Pan before he arrived at Neverland." I went with friends thinking this play would be something on the same lines as "Wicked." During intermission I was one of the 50- 100 people who left the theatre with the resolve not to return. The first act was incredibly atrocious, boring, over acted and drawn out. My friends who reluctantly stayed behind for the second act informed me that the ... read more play got worse during the second act. I waited outside the theatre for my friends for their review. I did not need to wait for their review, the other theatre goers were adamant, vocal and equally disappointed. People were at box office trying to get their money back. Even one of the ushers said, during the second act, when he asked me whether or not I like the show, "Despite the fact that we open tomorrow night, we will not be here long." Seeing this travesty, one can only imagine why Peter Pan went to Neverland. This show is not a star worth catching. |
